I think that the server died because of the smoldering items. Fire farms are know to lag/kill servers and there is a bunch of items smoldering at the ground

You should do a server with the cavemen mod. It removes science machines and alchemy engines, so you have to learn everything through blueprints. I think it will be interesting to watch people freak out when winter comes. Maybe set autumn to short or very short to boost the death count.
