    Thanks for making the helpful video. I though I would mention so everyone knows, the water faucet you showed with the heat tape and pipe insulation is called a ‘frost-free’ faucet. The water valve is underground and should not freeze. The valve opens when you lift the handle at the top of the pipe and the water in the vertical pipe drains out from the valve underground when you close the handle. I have one that leaks a bit near the handle and freezes during operation now and then, but normally they don’t freeze if you only open the valve for short-term use. In other words, you likely don’t need the heat tape or pipe insulation if you only use it for short periods to fill your tank. John

    here's one you may like to try. Bubble wrap, that plastic packing that's fun to pop. if you line you windows with bubble wrap you'll find its a great insulator, a double layer in my experience is impervious to any degree of cold, though a single layer is very effective.

    • @RyanMegan
      @RyanMegan  Před 3 lety +3

      Wow!! That's a great idea! I would assume it might still let in some sunlight as well - I always hate having to cover up the windows because I love natural sunlight, but this might be a good solution!

    The first thing I noticed was no skirt around the motorhome. That would have kept things underneath better protected from wind, snow drifts going under the motorhome, and protecting wires and pipes.

    • @RyanMegan
      @RyanMegan  Před 3 lety +3

      You're right! We didn't invest in one because we arrived to Montana as they were coming out of their winter season. If we were to be there through winter it would be a very beneficial addition! If we ever do another winter camping video we'll be sure to add it to our list!

      @@RyanMegan A little research on the best material that is used today would be a good idea. I haven't looked into it for some years, but bails of hay were commonly used back in the day. Heavy black plastic sheets may be just as good if there is snow you can pile up around it.
      When I prepared my parent's mobile home for sale, code insisted I put a skirt around the home. I used styrofoam that looked like stone. That was more of a permanent solution though. Good luck!

    Check out Chinese diesel heaters. They are cheap on eBay or amazon around $90-$120. I have two of them in a 45foot rv and they work awesome. Watch CZcams for some installs and such.

    I think it's so cute that they think they're camping in a mobile home with a with an engine.
    I understand why they did this and I understand that they think they're camping I will see them camping when they break out the hot tent...
    I live in a travel trailer in Weatherford Texas and it isn't even as capable or nice as the motorhome they are in.
    It's 23 degrees and my water is frozen frozen solid.
    I'm huddling between a little gas heater and a small electric heater.
    I am not camping.
    It's simply called survival.

    Ok, I would winter camp for a minute or two and enjoy and experience the season for what it is. But since I have an RV that is, a recreational vehicle, a motorhome, a home on wheels, that can be driven, I might do something really nuts and I know it sounds crazy, I would just start up the motorhome and DRIVE to a location that's a little further SOUTH, where I wouldn't have to spend a lot of time and money keeping everything from freezing and always trying to keep warm.
    And yeah, slippers or slipper socks are amazing things for keeping your feet warm instead of having to clean bunch of rugs now and then, especially in the winter. Maybe in a couple of more years you guys will realize you're making more work for yourselves than necessary when you could be spending the time actually enjoying the RV lifestyle. 🤤

    • @RyanMegan
      @RyanMegan  Před 3 lety

      Those are some great points and definitely not neglected during our thought process. Continue watching our seasons on CZcams and we might surprise you! And dare I say....make you proud of how aware we are that our motorhome has wheels ;)

      @@RyanMegan rugs do more than keep your feet warm, they keep the RV warmer by blocking the chill from below (esp the rubber/plastic backed ones) - so washing is a small price to pay for me (and to make the washing easier, be sure to get ones that are small enough to go into a washing machine)

      @RyanMegan  Před 3 lety

      We have actually never stayed in a Walmart parking lot since becoming full time RVers. Crazy right?! Our jobs place us in one area for 3 to 6 months so we end up not moving our RV much unless traveling to the next contract. We've also heard these rumors, but haven't heard from any fellow RV'ers that have been turned away in Walmart parking lots.

      I know, we're parked so far! We're parked in someones driveway and parking closer to the hookups would mean parking in front of their house and blocking their view of the mountains... literally all they would see when they looked out the window would be Big Betty 😂 We didn't want to do that to them, so we just parked to the side a bit! 👍
