I feel it is worth a note - Clark would go to Haties House on Sunday mornings at times to visit with her and she would fix Clark a late Bkf/Brunch. He was quite close to Hattie. Also - Olivia de Haviland would go visit Hattie at her house often times having lunch together. During those times a Black person and white would not be seen together in public let alone eat together at a restaurant. Many if not all restaurants refused to serve a Black person, regardless of their achievements Clark and Olivia respected Hattie and remained friends with Hattie.

Clark refused to use the "N" word when he played Rhett Butler in gone with the wind. In the scene where Scarlett visits him in jail wearing the velvet drapes in the book Rhett says " you've been working like a "N". In the movie Clark would only say " field hand" among other instances in the book that were not brought out in the movie.

I'm not trying to be mean, but we Black people can almost always tell when somebody has Black in them. The late comedian Dick Gregory once said, he knew Clark Gable had some Black in him because a white man never looked that good. It is also said that Babe Ruth has Black blood although quite distant. And we all know about Carol Channing and many others. Please don't feel offended by any of my words.🌺🌺🌺

Clark Gable was the only male actor who was admired by his fans and his "enemies" which were few. Man's man, woman't fantasy, he married an older woman, who purposely supported him to help him with his acting goals, knew she was going lose him once he made it big, and still did what Fate required. Unfortunately, Gable's happiness was all about Carole Lombard, a blonde comedic actress successful on her own, but tragedy struck when her plane crashed during WWII when she returned from an Armed Forces event for the troops. This was when he was a pilot in the war. It changed him for the worse, and his drinking increased, and his desire for life was depressed. A piece of trivia: Gable would write checks for EVERYTHING, regardless of the cost, like a pack of cigarettes. He would write a check for $.50. How many of those checks with his "autograph" on them, were cashed? Almost none. LOL

Judy Lewis wrote in her autobio that as a very little girl she always had her hair styled covering her ears or was wearing a bonnet. Then she had a painful operation where her ears were pinned back (?); nothing was explained to her, of course. Eventually, she put everything together; her ears were a dead giveaway as to who her father was in gossipy LalaLand.

Kay Williams nee Spreckles was my mother’s cousin. I knew ‘ Uncle Clark.’ His place was in N-SEE-NO, not enchino. His ancestry was
Belgian- German. He truly was ‘color blind’
So he was black in spirit. Hattie had the best parties and I met her a few times in Santa Monica. He wasn’t perfect, but who is?

Ha that’s so true black people can always spot people we feel are passing or the black is so far back generationally the so called white person is unaware of. their black lineage.
We see people everyday on TV we mutter they got some black in them 😅
However many African American families realize that if the told on passing members of their family it could cost them their life or livelihood
    Ameikkka aren’t we precious

Like it or not we are a melting pot of relatives ❤

So true I've always told my boys that there is a good probability that their kids might turn out a little darker than thay are. Not just because they are latino but that both of my great great grandmothers were "passing" as white. This was also a dark period of our history but not the darkest. We have to do better in the future.

    • @CoffeeCrazy

Lol This is true. I could easily pass and most time white or Hispanic folks ask me am I Spanish or assume I’m white . While black folks will ask me or assume I’m black. My cousin also had this issue. I remember living across the street from a navy family with two children, one blond (girl)and one sandy blonde hair( boy). One day we are all outside talking and her son was running around her. This was the first time I had seen him so close and I told my mom that he was looked black to me although he could pass , I knew he had to be. Let’s just say , in less than a year, the husband leaves (likely deployed) and her friend starts to visit often. I’ll let you guess what father, I mean the friend looked like. What’s even more interesting is that she said that she had Indian in her family. Sigh, I guess that’s easier to accept.

They do 2 films prior to GWTW......Loretta Young also had affairs with other men being Catholic.... just some small facts ....& just my opinion 😊

I'm of Black Jamaican descent. When I was a child, there was a family friend, who used to visit us once in a while. He was the spitting image of Clark Gable. Up until a few years ago, I could clearly recall his name, but now, at the age of 59, it's completely gone. I always meant to ask my mother who he was, but she died last year before I got the chance to.

Clark only saw his daughter 1 time. He stopped by Loretta's house to see her step father. He saw her for 3 minutes. He never acknowledged that little girl. Everyone saw (as she grew up) she was Clark gables daughter. She wasn't allowed to read magazines with her father's pictures. No movies. Her "saintly" mother, had had sex during filming of a movie with Gable. Yrs after Gable died. She met her step brother John Gable. Blood work DNA said both had same father. Judy, died a few yrs back. I don't know if she had children of her own. Adultary like today is accepted as right not wrong. But this too along with all the worlds problems will soon be solved.
