  • Portable Painter Palette Review You can find the pallet at www.portablepainter.com/ Use coupon code FRUGAL for 10% OFF
    Price: $29.95
    Pros:
    Holds 12 colors with removeable half pans
    Has 2 attached water cups
    Fits over leg/knee when painting
    Comes with a double ended brush
    Durable
    Cons:
    At $30 it is a bit pricey for an empty plastic palette
    Only certain half pans will fit if you want more than 12 colors (Winsor & Newton Professional/cotman and Rembrandt fit but most other pans are just a touch too big or not tapered to fit in the wells) I hope they will offer empty half pans in the future.
    As an avid Plein Air painter I think the palette is a great investment but you must ask yourself if it would add value to your life. I love the compact portability of it. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

    I have this pallet and I LOVE IT!!!! Honestly, I usually just put all my goodies in one side and water in the other. I know it is better to have two cups of water but I'm just lazy that way. Oddly enough I would rather get up and get fresh water. Anyway, when it is all assembled I kinda love just carrying it by the pallet in the middle. It is so sturdy and always a place for all my things. I am a size16-18 woman but it fits my knee beautifully! I also extended the pallet just a bit by using the very small mixing trays, that I don't find real useful, to put a dot or two of my Dr. PH Martin's concentrated water colors on. Let them try over night and they work beautifully! Thanks for all you do Lindsay!! Love, love, LOVE your videos!!!

    For anyone interested. I glued a teeny tiny "super magnet" available in big box hardware stores on the clasp and then a small metal washer on the side of one of the water vessels. when not in use, the clasp is securely attached to the water container. Works like a charm! ON earlier versions, the pans don't have the sticky stuff on the bottom. Just put a little glue dot on , or even a smear of rubber cement and they will stay firm.

    Gorgeous paintings Lindsay and your portrait of your daughter is stunning...OMG, she is so beautiful! I bought the portable palette when they first came out (it didn't come with the rubber band). I can attest to the fact that they are very sturdy so as you say, if anyone thinks it may be of use to them when travelling, then as far as quality goes it's great. Hullo Lindsay, I was not looking for this review but it popped up on my homepage today! I believe I’ve seen a review after this with the potable painter. These people have made new quarter pans to fit in the brush area? I just knew you would not give a bad review or a bad review video. I love seeing you be so consistent and just as bright and lovely as ever! You are simply luckier than me, I have broken several plastic palettes over the years so I use mostly the metal ceramic coated ones. I have seen several artists I follow on CZcams use the portable painter palette and I am always just a little bit envious, but I just don’t think it would hold up for me I would hate to spend money on it and break it first time out! Thanks again for a wonderful review and sharing of your beautiful and awe inspiring paintings. Ok now for something a little more recent!

  • @gailgassen8670
    @gailgassen8670 Před 6 lety

    I got one last year and really like it except the pans didn't have the sticky dots. I cold have stuck down the pans but decided to not use the loose pans. I love the little brush also, plus a bit bigger brush. Mine didn't have the elastic band either. I bought mine while it was in the trial period so I didn't pay the price you mentioned, I paid about $20-21 for it, so i think that was a good price for the first trial ones. Thank for the nice review, & I'm happy you like it I think whoever invented it did a great job, then fixed the few problems it had after the trial period. (my half pans wouldn't stay in the little squares when i put my brush into the pan the whole pan came out) I just added the paint directly into the squares. When i use it this summer I'm hoping I wont be sorry for not being able to switch out the pans. It was a disappointment like you said when other pans wouldn't fit. Thanks this was fun to see your opinion of it. I got mine from Sharon Cullen when she reviewed hers during their trial period, so thats how I also got my prototype.

  • @HooWnts2No
    @HooWnts2No Před 7 lety

    Hi Ms. Lindsay! Great tutorial. I do love the travel palette, and think it would be beneficial. The fact that you cannot interchange the pans, and it doesn't have an attached locking closure are design flaws. Sending out rubber bands is not a good solution in my eyes. But I love the water containers too. I always take my prima confections and or koi or my Cotman travel palettes., Lately...that's what I use when I'm home too. Don't think I'd make the purchase until those two problems of pans and closure were corrected. But that's just my opinion. Have a great day!!! Would love to see your vacation paintings in tutorials.

    Can you toss the clasp into the clean water well while you paint? It shouldn't rust or anything if you don't leave it in to long. If the clasp is aluminum it won't rust at all.

      Maureen Nevers You totally can, that's what I do on the very rare occassion that I use watercolors. I think it's so you can get an idea of the intensity of the color before putting it down on the paper, or to get rid of some of it before putting it on the paper.
