  • I am in the process of making my dream toy- a bobbed deuce and a half. Follow along as I try my hand at swapping the puny NDT tires to some 46" Michelins. This was my first attempt, and I have edited out alot of the missteps and PITA moments. I hope this helps anyone trying to do the same.

While i do appreciate the amount of time and effort that you put into this.
These tires are tubeless radials. I made the mistake of using stock wheels with my new Goodyear 295/85/20 MVT's, used liberal amounts of talc, on wheels that looked new in comparison, brand new tubes & flaps, didn't pinch anything, at 50# pressure, and within 3 months I had a flat front tire on the front. Tube failure, while driving. Sure they looked cool, but IMHO these tires should never be mounted on stock wheels. Not to mention being extra cautious when turning sharply to avoid snagging suspension parts & tearing a hole in my new tires. So all that work just to remove them AGAIN, and re-mount to MRAP wheels with adapters.
There's guys that run these set ups on stock wheels and never had a problem yet, and thats great!! My advice.. just cause the internet says it can be done, doesnt mean YOU SHOULD. Stay safe.

Well I have these same tires mounted on stock rims with tubes, and have drove on them for 3 years with 0 issues, I understand where your coming from, but I haven't had any issues and drives and rides just fine.

NOT a split rim, lock ring rim, NOT a widow maker!

I give you props for doing it with a pry bar. I did not think it would be possible with one.

A little late, but this is a simple process with a engine hoist. Put the legs of the hoist on the sidewall of the tires. Use a ratchet strap to keep them from spreading. Now loop a length of chain into the wheel and then to the engine hoist. Have it set to its highest lift capacity. Use the hoist and pull the wheel up. This will compress the tire sidewalls and pull the wheel high enough to get the bead ring on. Then just lower the hoist and add air.
This also works stellar for removing the old tires as well.

pegalis or a high lift jack might help jt put the jack on the rubber tire and under the truck bumper and Jack it up

always helped to lay a good beating on it with a big hammer before trying to remove. the beating would shake loose all the rust and shit.

This will kill you. This guy has no clue. The rim has a VALVE SLOT not a VALVE HOLE. This means that the rim is made for a TUBE. This rim has no grove to install the O RING. He bent the crap out of the lock ring. He didNOT clean out the grove where the lock ring goes on. Tireman for 35 years.

please note that I stated I was only seeing if the new tire would fit. I freely admit I was a bit out of my element with this. I have learned way more from the comments on this video than I could have ever hoped to. Thanks for your input

Allow me to sugest something. Next time with the crowbar split where the rim is cut in half and with the other crowbar insert in the hole where you first started. That will be the easest and the proper to do it.

Olive drab on the lock ring and black led liner on the rims. I think that would look badass.

2 things. You mention it in passing, but just to be safe for anyone that doesn't catch your comment, you have to make absolutely sure the tire has no air when you remove that lock ring. Otherwise, the pressure might blast that ring into your head. Second, you might be able to seat the bead on the new tire w/o a tube. Just spray ether liberally inside and then light it (but use a torch extension, not a match!). The ether will explode and seat the tire. It might take a few tries, be safe.

you might run into problems with your set up here. not all tyres are designed to run with a tube in them. there is often a gaiter fitted inside tyre to protect tube from rim. tubeless tyres generate friction against tube if not designed for them and the heat this causes can lead to failures.

  • @blaircrocker9845
    @blaircrocker9845 Před 2 lety

Use some lube beat down the tire away from the lock ring . P op the lock off then the rim may just fall out. Use an extreme amount of soap on the tire. Tube. Liner.and on the rim. Don't stand in front of it when blowing it up use a long hose and restrain it somehow

You need a bead breaking hammer to get the ring off easer.
