Key points for Modified widman flap:
1.Submarginal incision of 0.5-1mm very close to the crest of the gingival margin. Very minimal tissue is removed, hence maintaining thin margins of the flap.
2.Bone contouring is not advised in this technique, it is done only if it hinders with the flap adaptation. It is optional.
3. More conservative approach than original widman flap.
4. No vertical releasing incisions.
5. Also known as Open flap curettage.
you are too good at explaining things ma’am thank you for the lectures u have uploaded
You are an EXCELLENT teacher coz u have the ability to break down a big topic into nice bite sized chunks, easily palatable and digestible 😀
I hope u make many more videos for the dental community... Stay Blessed!
You're awesome! Thank you so much ma'am. You can well imagine by my time of this comment, that I've literally been searching for this technique's details ever since midnight. Keep doing this great work. ✌🏽❤️
Happy to help. Thank you for your appreciation.
Kindly go through our channel videos and playlists . Do let us know if u want us to discuss any other topics. Currently, we are discussing periodontal plastic and esthetic surgery.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Question: What is the preferred suture technique, with the Modified Widman Flap?
Happy to help. Thank you for your appreciation. Sling sutures suits all flap techniques.
By the way, if you do use the Modified Widman flap on both buccal and palatal, do you have any interdental area left exposed?
I saw your presentation on palatal flap and you said that the interdental area is left exposed for secondary healing if you use palatal flap on palatal. Can you use Modified Widman Flap on both buccal and palatal, then would you have the interdental areas covered? I would like to know when do you use palatal flaps, and would you use Modified Widman flap on the palatal?
Excellent presentation

Excellent presentation. Do you then combine this technique with the palatal flap on the palatal side ? Or do use the same Modified Widman technique on the palatal side.
Undisplaced flaps can be performed on palatal aspects. Palatal flaps are alternative to apically repositioned flap on palatal aspects if indicated
Thanks👍

How is interdental incision give? Which type of incision is interdental incision, internal bevel again ? Since already the 1st two incisions of modified widman are internal bevel.
thanx mam, i want to confirm windman flap come under pocket elimination and modified under pocket reduction?
Right. Orignal widman is for elimination and modified widman is for reduction
Mam please make vedeo on BMPs
Surely, we will try. Thank you
maam how to differentiate healing and inflammed granulation tissue during modified widman flap surgery which is frequently asked by external examiner during exam
Clinical presentation variations such as color
Thanks maam
Flap is reflected after first incision or completion of all three incision?
After completing all incisions
In original widman flap ..can u clarify placing the flap at recontoured margin???didnt get it.
Yes, it is repositioned at the new level of alveolar bone crest margins. Bone crest and flap margins coincide
Post operative interproximal architecture is normal?
Yes. Expect a slight apical position of flap margins owing to post operative tissue shrinkage
@@dentalstudiessimplified thank you
Is it used for pocket reduction?
Yes.
Mam,Wt is the difference between widman flap and apically displaced flap?
Both are different types of flap surgeries. Widman flap are 2:orignal and modified. Both these flaps are again different from each other. Apically displaced flap involves repositioning of flap to an apical position to achieve pocket elimination.
Kindly go through a playlist periodontal flap surgeries to understand individual technique in detail.

Hello Dr. - i do not understand the third incision. Why not just the first and third?
Which incision?
1st incision for creating a soft tissue collar to be eliminated
2nd incision to detach from root
3rd incision to detach from bone altogether
Please watch my video carefully again. I have tried my best to clarify these points. Also refer my notes in description box
Hello , What is the difference between MWF and undisplaced flap ?
czcams.com/video/j4SXp_mLekg/video.html
Thanks , but my question about modified widman and UNDISPLACED flap
@@nidalnaser4817 , undisplaced flap is internal bevel technique for pocket reduction, applicable in thick tissues and wide attached gingiva.
Mwf is only to eliminate pocket lining.
Kindly watch my videos on horizontal incisions and if possible, read carranza text on these 2 techniques
@@dentalstudiessimplified nice and informative video ma'am, but one question when do we do modified widman flap and how do we decide clinically vs kirkland flap?
Can u state indications for modified widman and kirkland flap please
Kirkland for cases with limited attached gingiva, regenerative cases where maximum tissue is required.
Mwf for cases where we can afford to remove marginal tissue collar
Ramfjord* :)
Thanks 😉
Why kirkland flap is used now in surgery not mwf ?
Ask by examinar
Preservation of remaining available attached gingiva
Mwf has main benefits of providing thin flap margins to get better post operative flap closure. But at cost of little gingiva resection during initial incision.
KIRKLAND will save that gingiva and thinning is possible after flap reflection.
Ma'am , first incision why it is sub marginal but not marginal incision?
czcams.com/video/D-GYS9Qd-yg/video.html
Refer this video on horizontal incisions to understand decision making about the 1st incision.
To be precise, mwf has the major benefit of providing thin flap margins without eliminating a lot of tissue that's y we give submarginal incisions. Please watch the abovementioned video
Thank you
