It's a shame intel is killing off optane but at least you can get M.2 optane cheap if you know which ones to buy.

Hello, a hint on which ones ?

@@minarthitepP1600X can still be had for under $100 and they make good special device drives for ZFS, just be aware you will need at least 2 of them.
If you can find them and have either free PCIE or U.2 slots the 9xxp series are also good, but they are getting scarcer and more expensive now.

That would be more simple if the SSD type doesn't change sides...

Optane is really only good for the random Iops. Shame that it is now dead.

Just a stupid question tio the people in the know. I have a 9900K with 2 SSD + 1 NVME + 2 normal Harddrives and 32 GB of ram. The only thing I want is (obviously) to have faster HDDsk access when loading games. Can I (somehow) use my 16+GB of normally unused Ram for that without creating a cheesy Ram-Disk?

Try to use PrimoCache. It may help.

Windows automatically uses unused ram as a cache for frequently used files & processes. If however, you want a more manual approach primocache can use unused ram as a cache drive for the hdd.
If it was me id buy a cheap ssd & have primocache use it as a cache drive for the hdd.

Sorry, how was the SSD+Optane setup? Was Optane the boot drive and SSD for files? or was Optane setup as Pagefile, ZFS or something else?
