I've learned in most cases your phone can run videos in higher res, it's just your carrier throttling it. It's why they have plans that claim to support higher res video when they all use the same cellular. Just turn on a VPN and you'll notice you get way less lag and videos will play in higher res. I do it all the time.

HDR dev here, nice to see you enjoying the mod! You're able to wavedash completely horizontally (no need to hold the stick diagonally), so if you feel like the wavedashes feel a little short, that may be why. Other than that, try checking in the tips section in the vault, don't be afraid to try the nightly updates (you'll get to try new content before they hit beta releases), and keep your eyes out for new content! We've got a ton of stuff in the pipeline for the next beta (including ASDI), so look forward to it!
Edit: To specify (in case it wasn't clear), I am one of the devs on the dev team. Different people work on different parts of the game. For example, I write the tips, and made most of the changes to Pichu.
Hey um I love you??
Oh.
You ruined temple kinda :(
#bringbackogtemple
YOU CAN WAVEDASH HORIZONTALLY?!??! Wow... That's so cool!
Do you know anything about the temple stage? think you could poke around to get it back? please and thank you kind sir!
Is it possible to toggle certain features on and off? (For example, enable wavedash and dashdance, but disable ledgehogging)
Also, rollback netcode, as far as I know, is being worked on for Smash Ultimate in emulators.
Emulation is not perfect, but basically everything you highlighted are just some of the reasons why I am a huge advocate for emulation for all platforms.
Nintendo and most other companies have shown time and time again that they are not willing to do what it takes to preserve gaming history in a convenient and fair way for the consumers.
Therefor, we have to take matters into out own hands.
Major shoutout to the legends who work on these emulators.
what a time to be alive!!
Bruh but this is quite literally piracy right now, for previous titles rhat havent been ported sure yeah do it but this is a relevant game on a relevant platform today, its just piracy right now
@@CharmedReally7 Bruh I got the OLED Switch a couple of months back and still buy their games. But when I can play them on my PC with better performance and higher resolution if I please, along with my pro controller or XBOX controller, then why wouldn't I? Nintendo has taken away many services and games over the years and if it wasn't for the emulation scene, we would not be able to play those games ever again.
If you hack your switch and dump your games, then it's not piracy, but of course if you just download them and don't buy their games, then yes of course it's piracy. The focus of my comment was to highlight that emulation is important for the preservation of games, and when your console either fails or Nintendo does not support it any longer and you can't buy it outside of the second hand market for several hundreds if not thousands of dollars down the line, you are going to be thankful that someone made it possible for you to still be able to play your games and that they started early to make it happen.
@@MINI_91 well everything you said you did i have no problem with, its just that literally the majority of people use emulators of modern platforms to pirate games, it's a fact
@@CharmedReally7 Nintendo can honestly go fuck themselves I am not taking away from anyone if I prirate from a multi million dollar corperation
The unintentional way PC emulation encourages you to play all the characters is kinda neat.
What exactly do you mean? Is it the character unlock process?
@@ShiddyKong he's talking about the lag thing with a never used character. Just play the game normally. I don't see how this is at all encouraging "to play all the characters". big cringe moment. just a quick note: while dash dancing is different in the mod, you could dash dance in ultimate and it isnt smash 4's weird long dash dance which is more similar to what was done in the video.
dash dancing in ultimate is even faster than in the mod if I remember correctly
@@spaghetnoodle7706 in ultimate, "dash dancing" is just jerking the running startup animation back and forth
melee dash-dancing is being able to dash in the other direction immediately with no startup by tapping and is therefore much more functional in a battle scenario
idk if anyone mentioned this yet but iirc the shader cache for characters are different when in a match with 4 or less players and in a match with 5+ characters
so basically if you're doing 8 player smash with a character you haven't used in 8 player smash the emulator still needs to load the shader cache
I did not know this. Makes so much sense now! Thank you for sharing :)
Why is that, does the game switch to lower quality animations in 5+ smash?

Hey HDR dev here I’m glad you enjoyed our mod I was stoked to see you come back to both show the world the greatness of Ryujinx and HDR! There are tons of things still subject to change and that includes the stages and their general functionality, many of which have big plans (so expect those big stages to make a return at some point). Our next update is also gonna be one of the biggest yet so if you’re looking to make more HDR content the next beta release will have you covered 👍
And side note: as for me in particular I work on visuals and am planning on doing character changes (with big reworks for Steve and Mega Man to come). As for some good examples I’ve made the new Battlefield, FD, Small Battlefield as well as PS3 (appropriately Galar themed). I also am one of the creators of our skin pack which will be receiving a big update in the coming months too and will promptly be integrated into our launcher as an optional install. And for that launcher in question it may or may not be receiving some emulator support in the future 🫡

Smash Ultimate has 6 frames of input lag on the Switch. The lack of lag on the emulator can actually hurt you if you play competitively.
How much input lag can one expect on the pc with an emulator?
@@manueldiedrich6139 depending on your PC, it can be 0
Here are some points i would like to add
-since yuzu and ryujinx load shader caches you need to load them as you said, however,to have an initially better performance, both emulators have an option to make the emulator load shader cache without “remembering” the shaders so the game will overall run smoother the first time but it won’t be better next time
-another thing emulator helps for is the accessibility of it,for example, while there was a mod that allowed to use different controllers on the switch (which i’m pretty sure doesn’t work now) by itself you are limited to first party controllers and weird third party controllers, however on emulators you can use pretty much anything
-while other emulators have constantly been getting better and better over the years since yuzu (which was not the emulator used in this video) is a bit inconsistent,it’s not unusual that there are minor or big glitches during the game, ryujinx is much more consistent however it has slightly worse performance
-you can get shader caches from other people to have an initially better performance, however it can be hard to find shader caches for new games
That’s about it,i agreed with most of what you said in this video
Speaking of 4K, I got a PS5 last month. Some games run in 4K despite my 1080p TV, and it seriously looks better than regular 1080. It makes a pretty big difference even if you can't output it.
its not in actual 4k on your 1080p tv.Unless you actuall y have a tv that supports 4k
@@69metersbelow25 ok. Still looks better tho.
Supersampling babbbbbyyyyyyyy
Rendering at higher resolutions and then outputting it in lower res can actually help a lot with image quality and clarity so its not just a placebo
i cant say this for certain but the ps5 may be able to tell if its on a 1080p TV and instead of trying to run it in 4k native which it would use on a 4k display it most likely uses a 4k upsampling technique to make the image look better.Speaking of a 4k TV, TCL makes good 4k tv's with HDR and stuff for like 300 bucks.I use one, its not as good as my Samsung I used to have before I tipped the TV and shattered its screen but for 300 bucks it looks at least 80% quality of what my Samsung TV had and that was like a 1100 dollar TV
There’s ways around no c-stick support. Kinda weird ik but if you really want it you can use something like xpadder to map “forward” and “A” to a single directional input.
the reason the resolution changes matter on youtube even without a 4k display, is because you are aftually viewing a higher bitrate. bitrate is often more important than reaolution for resolving the detail of an image, especially on smaller displays.
5:00 probably because your computer connects to your controller faster, or if you mean FPS wise, its your GPU. its all just hardware related. The switch is portable, which means it has to cut down on some things, that includes bluetooth connections.
Nintendo would like to know your location.
If _you're_ getting lag spikes after loading shader cache still because your CPU is outdated, then *I* definitely will have problems trying to run _any_ switch game on the laptop. I just wish there was like an option to load all the cache before you open the game (Like what Dolphin emulator has) that would help my laptop considerably.
you are wrong tho, because he is building the cache that is why it freezes a bit, and yes you can skip the freeze and building your own cache by downloading someone else's but this is not the case.
Huh??? Didn't he say in the video that his game may lag a bit since his CPU is a bit outdated tho???
Yeah, I just checked the video again. Around 18:35 he says that.
here before nintendo sells his organs
oh no…
😟
If you experience constant lag on your TV, you can try setting it to game mode, or changing the response time in the settings, some TVs change the response time when you set them to game mode.
Also you can download 100% saves on emulators to unlock all characters on Smash Bros for example.
btw you can dash dance in vanilla ultimate, like, extremley fast with every character. you have to be very good at mashing the control stick fast and i reccomend using the palm of your right hand to do it but its pretty easy.
not as useful as being able to dash dance during any point within initial dash tho
@@theluigifan42 you are able to.
Like, if you mash the stick fast enough, you can cancel the initial dash

HDR Mod Maker here, nice showcase of the mod 🐐
One thing to keep in mind with 4k on CZcams on the point made at 2:40
Bitrate is also an immense determining factor on the "quality" of an image (which is also incredibly murky when you get in the weeds)
CZcams 4K has a much higher bitrate, meaning that even not factoring your point on pixel compression it will automatically look better on busier forms of video.
9:05 you can indeed do this in the base game, even faster than you showed for HDR, but I'm pretty sure it's useless (in base) aside from mixup
You can do it much faster in hdr than he showed off, and much faster than base game even with perfect l-stick tilts.
And it is useful in this game, that'd be like saying dash dancing in melee is useless.
It looks so smooth
As someone who uses Yuzu frequently, its such a nice option to have, HOWEVER, some games crash, or have glitches, so its nice to have a switch that can run the hardware natively will help if you run into unpassable crashes like i am on tears of the kingdom, I can pass it using my switch and go back to PC whenever. Also you will run into various issues like visual glitches, and other odd things, so expect that.
i have this on Yuzu and it sucks. Always has stutters or frame pacing issues even after full shader compilation no matter what settings or render settings you use. Is Ryujinx better at smash? It just runs "ok" on Yuzu
interesting! ive always wanted to emulate some switch games, thank u for showin off how it would look
stay in a game walking around for 20 min, beat the cpu, challenge a new character (win to unlock), home screen on character select screen, exit game.
start game, play a cpu, beat cpu, challenge a new character instantly (win to unlock), home screen on character select screen, exit game.
repeat until roster is unlocked.
learned this from a video ZeRo uploaded around the release of ultimate. i used it when i first emulated ultimate actually lol (which was actually before buying, and then i did the same when i did buy it), and because i did it at the start, i was downloading all the shaders for every scenario as i was playing and unlocking each char.
a great way to gain shaders is to do what you did towards the end as well a couple of times but with a bit more to it.
max out on cpus with cpus only and no player, play a big stage with hazards on, have all items on, and have the game last for a while until it runs smoothly.
then do another with completely different cpus and a different stage.
after 2 or 3 times it should run smoothly.
also just run through a few common stages with various characters for a bit, then after time youll just gain necessary shaders without knowing it, especially if its with friends...
Thanks for showcasing this.PC is the way to go with smash because pretty soon even though they have not announced it yet.The online for Wii U and 3ds will mose likely be shutdown in the coming years.Playing these smash games on the PC is the best
I think everything looks cool here, but my only problem is how slow knockback goes. The biggest problem I’ve seen with older smash games is that you never truly feel an impact from the super strong hits because they send the opponent so slowly. I feel ultimate on the switch is at just enough knockback speed that it doesn’t remove some responsiveness when playing but it’s also fast enough that when you get sent to the blastzone, you’re there in a second and then either out of hitstun or in the blastzone.
I agree with most points in this video other than the less input lag on emulation, because that is just not the case emulation 99% of the time will have more lag than native hardware because an emulator is essentially a system running inside another system which results in more lag, compared to the game running natively on real hardware. Theirs many reasons as to why u think theirs more lag on switch than pc one reason being the monitor u are using. For example if ur using a 4k screen than the switch would likely have more input lag than ur pc cause it outputs at 1080p so the screen has to downscale the resolution which results in more lag than 4k on ur pc.
I heard Dolphin has less input lag than real hardware, idk if that's true and if it is then it could be the case you mention about TVs downscaling the resolution

trying way too hard to avoid discussing piracy
Not hard enough, have you heard what nintendo does to pirates?
the craziest lag of shader caching stuff for me whas when the inkling in his map threw paint at my captain falcon, the game literally froze for about 30 seconds then came back like nothing even happened
I have actually tested it, and yes, it runs pretty smoothly on a steam deck, although any matches with more than 3 players does start to mess up the frame rate, so it probably is a bit worse
That’s awesome! Give it more time for optimizations and perhaps every switch game will run smoothly on the Deck
😂 Nintendo's all pissed about emulators because they do a better job of running their software than their ancient piece of e-waste does.
i feel like a huge issue you glossed over is the inability to use the c-stick. will that be fixed at a later date?
I know I'm a bit late to the party, but if you're using a Mayflash adapter, switch it to Wii U mode and look up Delfinovin. It's a program that allows a Wii U gc adapter to spoof as an Xbox 360 controller. It also works as an input viewer and you can tweak trigger and stick sensitivity. Hope this helps homie
The levels in this mod were what I was hoping Nintendo would do for the battlefield versions of stages. Like, we don't need 100 identical alternate battlefields. But slight variations that add some variety both in visuals and also in layout would be huge.
LOVE THIS!!! Please show us how you did this!!
I been playing smash on PC with my brother for 2 years, runs too smooth

Ryujinx is honestly a lot better than yuzu in terms of performance and graphics, seem the only problem is the long ass startup
ryujinx has been better for a real long time, i boggles my mind how its barely known and all you hear about is yuzu
@@metroidcypher Honestly I should've known about it sooner since it's a lot better besides the long startup
16:38 I do something similar too this but not quite. Whenever I play more than 4 player smash, i'll just be worse for some reason. It could be because 4+ player smash is just too chaotic.
I filmed professional wedding videos for years and would shoot in 5k and scale down to 1080p in post. Hollywood films are shot in 8k maybe more now, and scaled down to 4k. It definitely makes a difference.
This looks like it runs way better than Yuzu. At least on my pc lmao
X2
Who's here after the sad shutdown of yuzu and citra?!
I’m mindblown how Nintendo hasn’t taken this down yet. Cool video
Great video bro
Would it be feasible to pre-load all assets on first startup?
Yes! You can download someone else’s cache from the internet and preload it so it doesn’t lag like that. However, every time there’s an update things can change. The last thing I would like to add is when you have a large amount of shaders to preload, the game takes forever to launch. This will get better with time but some people have reported waiting 10 mins for Smash to open after launching it lol
Looks freaking beautiful.
*Talks about all the great things it can do* then
“Let’s discuss the negatives. There’s occasional lag…”
*and immediately back to more positives*
9:07
Me casually dash dancing with Sonic: yeah...
So if you don't know: Smash Ultimate has some pretty heavy input delay (I don't know the number offhand, but I think it's around 6 frames of delay)
Playing this on emulator would remove that and make the game feel more responsive.
I was wondering if someone could take the input buffer off 😬
How i remove the input lag? On yuzu i have input lag
*Here's how to unlock the characters faster.* It may be different with the mods. Anyway, go to Games and More and there will be a glowing door at the bottom right of the screen where you can face previously fought characters. And if you need to complete matches to face new opponents, just do a one stock match. I think that inflates the counter.
great video, this info will become useful if i ever get a more powerful PC to try and emulate ultimate on here... i always wanted to try hewdraw and ultimate S, though i always feared that i'd be banned from online over on the switch if i tried that
Just a little sidenote on the point about capture cards. Very recently a company found a way to mass produce them for $20, that's how i got mine and it works great!
Although, i do prefer emulating when using my PC because of 60fps and 4k patches
Kinda crazy that the 8 player smash just looks like a normal ultimate online match
I could go on and on about the benefits of emulation assuming you have decent hardware:
-TONS of save files
-You can take other people’s save files so you don’t have to unlock characters or if you want to go back to a certain part of the game
-FPS is more consistent
-Better resolution
-Mods are easy to install after setting Yuzu/Ryujinx up
-Online (Recent development) and it’s still being improved upon. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up being better than the Switch’s at some point.
I could go on! It’s all only going to get better from here! 👍🏻👌🏻
Online is gonna be better than the switch by the end of the year, NSO is crap
really liked the structure of this video, interesting points about the value of emulation!
That Wii U portable concept pic actually looked really cool 😥
Actually upscaling emulated games is different then just watching something in 4k. The internal resolution is independent from your screen resolution. If you ever have played an emulated game, let's say 3ds, and upscaled to whatever the highest resolution is, regardless of what screen resolution you have, it's going to look infinitely better.
I'm very shocked to see how ryujinx and yuzu developed throughout 2 years heck most of the games are glitchy even the shadows are weird
Yeah I've been watching it develop since games weren't really playable, it's crazy how switch games are now playable on launch day using Yuzu.
As soon as i saw thos video, i downloaded yuzu and started playing smash. Im pleasently surprised with the results. Runs amazing at over 4k, even with the 8 player smash test i get a locked 60. Thanks for this video!
Where did you download smash?
As a video professional- you’re correct, HDMI is inherently laggy. SDI with BNC connectors is a preferred connection for that exact reason
I really like all the positives of having Ultimate of PC, especially in like, 10 years, but personally, the whole thing isn't how I would want to play. The individual 4K changes are cool, but most else isn't my cup of tea, but it is so cool for those who really want these changes.
14:48 nope
the amount of times i've seen emulator devs refuse to add certain things because "they're too outdated" or "no new pc supports them anymore" is enough to make me want to learn coding and make my own emulators
bruh it's open source.. if you don't like something or want to add something to the project you can or you can fork it yourself. Learn to code and you'll understand your issue is not an issue.
the online elements for sure seem awesome!
The reason you can't notice 1080p on CZcams is because CZcams compresses 1080p. You might also be noticing that you're not actually watching in 1080p at all but you've been watching in 480p the entire time. TRICKED. CZcams changed it automatically. Every 5 minutes. I downloaded a plugin just for that.
Nope, you must have it an automatic or have slow wifi
How to download pls
Sadly I can't claim the pc but hopefully maybe next time I can win again and claim it
IMPORTANT POINT: You can download SHADERS from other users to reduce the issue and if you have a more modern gpu you can use VULKAN which wont lag the game as much when its building new cache.
Nice. What site do you download the shaders from?

most likely you don’t feel the 5 frame input delay because your frame rate is much higher because your pc is so powerful the set frame rule that is built into the game so it can be fair just doesn’t work correctly so it feels smoothly
Well you can dash dance in ultimate. You just gotta be fast enough.
