Black Water was actually a B-side on a 45, when the band went on tour they found out their manager was desperately trying to get a hold of them, when they asked why he told them they had a big hit on their hands and it was Black Water. The Doobie Brothers didn't make Black Water for massive radio play, they made it because they loved the song. When you make music you feel in your heart and soul and others love it as well that must be a tremendously satisfying feeling.
Saw them in 1974 when this album was released, I was a 16 year old youngster.Boy those were amazing days.
In 74 I was 15 going on 16 saw the Doobies at Long Beach Arena, Saw hundreds of Great concerts in the 70s, Doobies, Chicago, Eagles, Tull, Zeppelin, Stones, Ronstad, ZZ, Skynyrd, Clapton, CSN, Jackson, CSN, Dylan, Starship, The Dead, Kinks, Pink Floyd, Who, Kiss, James Brown, Parliament, many many concerts loved it.
Righto, Mark...I'm 64 ,as well ..Some great tunes to be sure..In summer of 74, I attended three-day festival , the Ozark Music Festival in Sedalia, Missouri , featuring Ted Nugent, REO. Skynyrd. Eagles. America ,Marshall Tucker etc ..Great time had by all.
Lucky!!!!!
I would prefer if you didn't like on occasion.
Mel's face change at 4:07 is shared by every one when listening to this song.! 😀Every one would agree, the ending is the best!! ♥
Shawn & Mel, you'll love their "Long Train Runnin'", "China Grove" and "Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me)"!!!!
You've now done my 2 favorite Doobies songs, this and "Jesus Is Just Alright"!
Saw them in a private concert a couple years ago sound just like the record still
Definitely my favorite song by the Doobie Bros...and one of my all time faves!!!!
One of the most diverse music groups of all time!
With Michael McDonald on Lead Vocals: Takin’ it to the Streets - live
My favorite Doobie Brothers song
First time I saw them, it was in the 70s in Mississippi. People actually cried during this song.
Live video is very nice to watch as well taped back in 1975 on PBS
What a masterpiece of a song. Good vibes are eternal.
Can see that old river's "black water" rollin' along from the 1st "ting" of the chimes. Best song The Doobie Bros. ever did.
One of the greatest songs ever written. Love the Doobies
This song gets me right in the chills…like silk.
Louisiana's LeRoux has a song that I think you guys will love: New Orleans Ladies.
Patrick Simmons, who is the group's guitarist, wrote this song and sang lead. It has the Louisiana swamp rock feel of earlier Doobie Brothers songs like "Toulouse Street" and "Black Eyed Cajun Woman."
"Black Water" wasn't seen as having hit potential, so it was relegated to the B-side of "Another Park, Another Sunday" in March 1974. "Black Water" wasn't issued as an A-side until November, and it didn't reach #1 until March 15, 1975
Love me some Dobbie's. I just saw them in May here in Vegas at Planet Hollywood. They sound just like I remembered in 1977. Such a great band.
Our family moved from Imperial Beach CA to Southern Miss in 1973...just before this song came out in '74. We all in MS did love it.
Love the DOOBIES ♥️. China Grove
Check out their song Takin It To The Streets
Hey Shawn . . You got yourself a Queen my man . . I know you know . . Just a reminder .. Mel has my favorite smile on the internet .. you a lucky man .. love your reacts . . Just had to say man to man .. you got a queen.. blessed .
Per Wikipedia: Founding member. Patrick Simmons, wrote this song. Simmons cites the song's opening section as "my childhood imaginings of the South from reading Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer" while the lyrics subsequent to the first chorus draw on his actual experience of New Orleans: "going down to the French Quarter as often as possible and going into the clubs and listening to Dixieland"
When I hear this song it reminds of the episode of the old "What's Happening" show where ReRun had to sneak the tape recorder into the Doobies concert to bootleg the show
This song was a crossover hit when it came out--Just as many country music stations were playing it as the rock ones! (What were was vices are now habits is my favorite Doobies LP's of the Tom Johnston era) Goooood Pick, you two!!
Saw them last year in LA with Michael McDonald. Awesome concert!
One of my favorite Doobie Brothers songs. Such a great vibe. I loved watching you two listen to this vibe!
You know it's good when you don't pause it at all! Love your reactions to this!
The Doobies! San Jose born and raised! Bay Area’s best!
They have so many hits, it's hard to find a bad song by these guys. Takin' it to the Sreets is a fantastic song, especially in today's funky climate. Not talkin' about the "weather" climate.
Greetings from Cal. Smoked a lotta doobies listenin to that band. The singer went to the same high school I went to. He graduated with the class my sister was in the year before I got there.
Saw them 10 years ago this Friday the 5th in Raleigh with Chicago!
Just saw them live a few weeks ago, still good as ever.
Saw them a few weeks ago in Michigan. They sound as good as they always have!
Probably won’t comment again.
There's two distinct eras of the Doobies. This song is from the first era of almost a Southern rock style and the later era was a more soul/r&b style lead by Michael McDonald. "China Grove" and "What A Fool Believes" are good examples of each era.
What a Fool believes is one of my favorite songs ever
@@smartcookie493 I hated that song when it was out. I've come to appreciate it more over time. Everything had to be screaming hard rock for me back then.
Speaking of the Doobie Brothers, can you please react to this song titled “What a Fool Believes” Thanks
They put on a great concert!
Amazing song
That's a hit, for sure! Lots more Doobies: "Dependin' On You" "China Grove" "HereTo Love You" "Takin' It To the Streets" "Take Me In Your Arms" "Minute By Minute" "Long Train Runnin'" "It Keeps You Runnin'"
Love! Love ! Love! These guys the best!
You guys are IN IT!
welcome to the 🐺pack fam
♥️♥️♥️
Just noticed his Orioles cap!🤗
At some point you need to react to their second lead singer and killer soul vocalist and pianist- Michael McDonald!
Bet few know they before becoming the Doobie Brothers they were all part of a Motorcycle gang!
I Have All Their Greatest Hits
Huck Finn's theme song.
Saw them in 1974 in Roanoke Virginia when they played Blackwater to a live audience for the first time! The local radio station WROV heard it and took it from there. The rest was history!
Hell to the Yeah on this one as one of their best in harmonies and that country rock blend!
Mel....and u sounded good singing it!
Love you guys!💞
Great reaction, Bay Area band, South Bay CA.
Congratulations on your continued success on YT, Shawn and Mel!! You got this 👍
Yessssssss! I heard this on the radio yesterday, wishing you would react to it, and here it is. This is such a great song from a great band.
This was pre-Michael McDonald. 1977 was the beginning of the McDonald era.
Long Train Running is epic!
Wasn't that great! I really love the Doobie Brothers, this is one of my top 3 favorites. I think it is so beautiful they way they incorporate the chimes in the beginning of the song. It sounds just water. I can just picture the moonlight on the water. Sigh, how I would like to be there listening to some Dixie Land Jazz. This song just transports me to another world. I liked your TikTok showing your grill and Jerk Chicken! Yummy! I sure hope you guys have found a comfortable place to stay and things are going well for you in Texas. Hang in there! Sending best wishes your way. :)
Ever listen to Me and Mrs Jones...oh my God.. your welcome..
Okay y'all got to start listening to Hall & Oates start with Sarah smile
Long Train Running🔥
That was our dancing music in the country in colorado. Its not music if you can't dance to it.
Great choice!! Greatest Doobie Brothers masterpiece! I prefer the pre Michael McDonald era as well! I just don't think he could carry this one off.

Here's the live version of Black Water with Michael Macdonald on piano in Chicago. Hope you enjoy it.
CAN YAA REACT TO CRUELTY BROUGHT THEE ORCHIDS BY CRADLE OF FILTH PLEASE 🙏
They have it all like many bands of that era: true singers, true instruments, harmony, rythm, melody,, etc.
Live shows are as good as recording sessions, even better.
Hip-hopers and rappers: just a bunch of losers bullshitting music where all is fake.
I like to recommend Junior brown ( my wife thinks your dead )
