Probably the most dedicated carpenter I’ve ever watched.
Imagine how professional he could become if he learned how to use power tools.
@@garrysekelli6776 my great grandfather, who lived til 103, and he and his father built a water-powered sawmill in Ohio, had these skills and more. I am so privileged to have learned under him, and, at 74, owe much to them. I love this video. I know these tools
As a woodworker who also uses ( to a lesser extent) hand tools, I think the average viewer is unaware of how difficult it is to do what you are doing so well.
My grandfather used such tools and learnt a lot from him. And yes, it takes a bit of time and patience, but if you're into this, it such an experience. I really need to start making some stuff, to honor his memory.
thank you Frank
Even the sawing is at least 10x harder than most people think.
The average viewer is so retarded/lazy they couldn’t even acquire the wood, literally. They would be walking around in the woods looking for a slab And then give up after five minutes when everything was round logs
True, and yet it is readily attainable. Just don't expect to master it in one project.
For a hand tool woodworker, there is no more lovely a sound than that of a sharp plane in use.
Thumbs up there. A nice sharp chisel does it for me. I must admit, hand planes are still voodoo to me.
It is most satisfying.
I have to agree with Old New. The sound of the chisel trimming away that wood is magical.
Even years ago Mr Chickadee had the body of a young man with the mind of an older experienced man. I never could understand how he amassed so much knowledge of classic carpentry at such a young age.
From one craftsman to another.... "Impressive."
Watching a man do his own thing, practice his own craft...marching to the beat of his own drum...in today's world...
Respect.
I can only imagine sitting in his workshop, watching him employ his craft. The only sounds to be heard are the hand tools.
The sharpest, properly used tools on CZcams. Great job, Mr. Chickadee!
I like the fact that you made your bench at the perfect height to saw without holding back your gesture. Beautiful work, as always !
Thanks!
My great great grandfather built a lot of the wagons the Mormon Pioneers traveled in to the Salt Lake Valley in the 1840s... I just imagine him using the same techniques that you use to build the body of the wagons.. He also made the wheels.. I would of loved to watch him as he formed those wagons.. Thank you for not using power tools.. I know it's harder, but certainly, more rewarding..
Truly stunning and very inspiring. All hand tools and not even sandpaper. Wow.
A sharp tool in the hands of a skilled craftsman is both more effective and more impressive than an idiot with a sander and I’ll be the first to admit I am that idiot with a sander
Another Zen moment from Mr Chickadee
16:27 I thought that's what you were going to do. It's truly amazing.
After just coming from a trip to Japan, watching this was very enjoyable ! The blending of Japanese art and style with your craftsmanship is inspiring! Thank you/Arigato.
Always get a smile on my face when I see a new Mr Chickadee video uploaded! Another great project completed!
You don't know how much you've missed a bit of joy and solace in this demented world until you see Josh uploaded a new video.
Great table, mate.
And thanks for the soul-cleansing.
좋은 영상. 감상 잘 했습니다.
From the side profile,...it looks as if its leaning. It's an optical illusion of course. Because of the way the leg and brace are constructed. Which gives it the ultimate cool factor. Beautiful job my friend. It's a stunning table. Top shelf craftsmanship.
I love the kindness and affection that you and your wife show toward your cat family.
Mira is not George, but her spirit is the same in a lot of ways. He SAW what it was in each piece and then he MADE it by removing what it wasn't... LOVE all his designs (pieces). Love your work - it shows your love for what you do...
I think this is the first time I’ve seen Mr. Chickadee actually resting! The wood is happy it became a beautiful table.
Out of the woods & Mat Cremona need to see this slab work. 'Hats off' (again) Mr Chickadee
Agreed.
Absolutely beautiful! Worked on an old farm house about 30 yrs ago that had one of his dining room tables made from walnut. What an honor to see and touch a piece of history.
I bet that was amazing.
Excellent. I have a visual disability and can only do rough carpentry now. Watching this fine joinery is letting me live it vicariously through your videos lol. Thanks for sharing!
My precious wood dude, your vids are like therapy for me at this point. Thank you.
Keeping the 'art' of hand tool (only) woodworking alive.
Este hombre trabaja como si viviera en el siglo XlX. Toda la energía que emplea emana de él. Un ejemplo a seguir.
Everytime I watch Mr. Chickadee working, I have this wish to be a carpenter in my next life!
You are a unique person with unique abilities...simply admiring your talent, and i am a part time woodworker, with love for hand tools, but a way worse from you...BRAVO Mate, BRAVO.
Its always nice when you can click on a CZcams channel and then hit the like button right away because you already know what to expect. You never seem to disappoint Mr. C, your videos are good for the soul.
I follow a large number of woodworking channels, but this is by far my favourite.
Exceptional skill meets cinematic perfection.
A workshop is like an alchemist's workshop, with so many forgotten and unknown tools and wonders that can be made by a master's hand with their help.👍 And the kitty staring at the "TV".🐈 God Bless Mr. Chickadee.😊
A chickadee video! Stop everything and watch! Freaking love this guy. I try to copy him in everything I make. His work ethic and skills are inspired to say the least.
I love the way you used the beetle kill aspects of the wood to an aesthetic advantage.
I don’t know if beetle kill affects cherry, but it has a similar look at least.
That end grain planing! Very nice. I have to set up a shooting board every time.
Love the sliding dove tails. Great design for movement and flat face.
I've done the wedged tenon into a tapered mortis.
Yours is more versatile. Can be dismantled.
Amazing work and passion right here. And I can't say I see anyone using a No. 1 or 2 plane very often!
Great filming and sound editing. Really captures the experience of working wood with hand tools.
Pretty cool, thanks for the video! My buddy and I made a Nakashima conoid style bench out of a slab of cherry and some walnut, I love his designs. It was my first piece where all the joints were cut by hand.
edit: extra word removed
I’m always amazed at your work. I got my first antique framing chisels for Christmas. Presently clearing privet and vines behind the house for a garden, timber framed shop and chicken coop. It’s a great workout. The adventure begins…
That design would make a great ironing board too. Well done!
Nice job.
I just completed my first Nakashima inspired coffee table a few weeks ago.
I didn’t have any live edge so I glued up some 100 year old cherry planks, a friend gave me, for the top.
And the base I made out of walnut.
I ended up a tiny bit lose in the dado joints and ended up using to small shims to tighten it up.
It turned out satisfactory.
I look at it as a learning experience for the next one I build. I really like the Nakashima style.
I like the design and the wood turned out gorgeous. Cherry looks better as it ages too. Nice job.
Wow...I just wonder who is going to be the 1st to put a ring on that table? Semper Fi, Marine!
Excellent video - as always. The sound in this video is so relaxing, and watching the creation of a beautiful piece of furniture brings piece of mind. It was nice to see you relaxing for a change, and Charles seem to really enjoy it as well. He looks as contented as you do. Many thanks for sharing your skills with us all.
Thank you so much for sharing your craftsman. Your video on this coffee table was amazing. Can you share approximately how many hours you spent making it?
The video is a work of art just like the coffee table.
I truly enjoy your video quality and your workmanship. The sliding dovetail mortise and tenon joints are very interesting. I haven't seen that before. Also, I like how you left the imperfections in the sap wood. I'm working on a live edge desk in air dried walnut and decided to epoxy those and now I'm regretting it. Blessings to you and Mrs.Chickadee!
Great video once again.
Thank you for your channel which has helped change the way I work with wood professionally.
Since I try to show that we can work with hand tools in France even if the prejudices remain well anchored
As always thank you for the peaceful journey.
Hello my friend. All the planing on those beautiful planks I almost cried when you started boring a hole in it.lol.
Sure is some beautiful work buddy.
Every single tool honed to perfection is awesome.
What an amazing piece of cherry. Love the end product. Your videos are like waking up from a good dream. You don’t want it to be over but you feel so relaxed and satisfied. Thanks!
I find your video content very relaxing and soothing. No music no talking. Only the sounds of hand held tools cutting, cracking and shaving against the wood...and the fact that you go old school about building your projects. Pricesless
Weird looking coffee table design, but it was clearly made with expert skill and craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing!
Very nice and I’ve been waiting for more furniture builds, not that everything else isn’t just as intriguing. Always looking forward to more videos and maybe livestock?
Very nice work. I think he's a robot, no blinking of the eyes...

Now thát was a scary sharp chisel 👌🏻. Marveles to see what creativity, hand-tools and patients can do. My compliments 👍🏻
Estos son los trabajos hechos a mano de los verdaderos artistas. Los trabajos hechos a mano realzan su valor. Excelente trabajo amigo. Te felicito.
So therapeutic watching your work. ❤️👍😎 I love the design of this coffee table. 👍👍
Love this! You should open a school, i would be honored to apprentice! Great work👍
You’re absolutely amazing! I wish I had your talent and patience for that matter!
That is a beautiful piece of work .
What an incredible design! I love it! Thanks for the inspiration, and the amazing videos!
Beautiful. Lovely to see sharp tools in such masterful action. Thank you 🙏🏼

¡Muchas gracias! ¡Deberías venir a tomar un café aquí!
What a beautiful table, you are a amazing craftsman
Lovely to watch, thank you. Looks like your cats have as hard a life as ours!
Sade ve güzel. Muhteşem bir ustalık ve incelikle yapılmış güzel bir çalışma.
Simple and beautiful. Perfect craftsmanship. Thanks for the video.
That was the most enjoyable 20 minutes, superb work
Wow, thanks!
the way the chisel makes its way through the wood is so satisfying
The one, the only MR Chic
Stunning. You have a knack for making simple look easy. They're not at all the same thing ;)
Well I'm a newbie to your work and what I find, after watching a few videos, is the way I relax, letting daily stresses melt away. I think its the steady, calm pace that you exhibit. Thanks.
I'm a retired shipwright and spent the better part of forty years building and repairing wooden boats. Your tools look a lot like mine...
It’s ok to smile every once in a while….when you pick up an old favourite tool or expose some lovely grain.
I'm happy to see my beginner planing results in similar patterns on the wood, as well as shavings, as I see here. Love your vids! I'm happy youtube decided it was time I watched them again.
I made a custom skylight for a rich lady. I got a call from her she said the roofers told her my skylight was leaking. So I go to her house and go up on the roof. I water tested the roof and it started leaking. She called me down very angry to berate me. I explained to her that no water had touched the skylight and the roof was the problem. She was not happy that I was finger pointing too. Then I noticed her furniture, it was all made by George Nakashima. When I asked her if they were all Nakashimas her jaw dropped, I went from being a philistine who climbs around on roofs to being a person of refinement. I’m proud to see Mr Chickadee that you also are a person of refinement.
You are one of my inspirations for manual woodworking. I find so much peace and satisfaction in that trade. Thank you for posting.
Beautiful table, lovely cats. Thank you for a wonderful video.
I love watching you pet your cats at the end of a video.
удивительный человек,мастер от бога!!!
Beautiful👍👍👍 hidden dovetails WOW!
ПРЕКРАСНАЯ РАБОТА, МАСТЕР!!!👍👍👍👍👍
Beautiful coffee table! (great couch, too!)
I miss your Mr Chickadee graphic and bird tweet 😪 love the video
A perfect video for a cup of coffee.
Your focus on the work is almost meditative in nature. I have always liked the moments of getting lost in the work as I drift into a place of peace. Usually, when I come out of it I have settled a problem or laid it down at the Cross.
Very nice, Mr. C! I have enjoyed every single one of your videos, but your furniture projects are my favorite. 5 stars.
Great work. True craftsmanship.
I love its elegsnt simplicity.
Nicely done. Great table. Thanks for the video!
Buen trabajo amigo saludos desde México 🇲🇽
Sharpest tools, happiest cats. Kudos.
Beautiful work! Always fun seeing what you make. Thanks 😊 🙏
Wow!
What a beauty!
Greetings from Germany,
Dietmar
Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship, you are a big inspiration for all woodworkers.
I am always excited to see that you have posted a new video! I have a question though. At about the 13 min mark, when you are carving those dovetails with a chisel, why didn't you take out the waste with a saw, and clean it up with a chisel? Was this due to the wood, personal preference, or something I am missing entirely? Thanks a lot for the video! Hope to see more in 2022!
I think more accurate to use a chisel, that would be an iffy saw cut.
Beautiful, as always. That design is so interesting, structurally. And it was good to see Charles again.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank god he used a coaster. If I saw a coffee ring after all of that transcendent work on that bit of cherry I would have died inside.
