You were pretty much right in my back yard, the rainbow river is nice, but the Withlacoochee is where its at! And Withlacoochee means windy river in Seminole Indian.
Next time you have an opportunity to paddle down Rainbow River, continue up that little side creek to the head of the springs. Believe me, it will be worth the effort! Also you can park your car and launch your kayak from the KP Hole Landing (where it looks like you were dropped off) and head downstream to the “ secret little creek” in the left👍 and keep going to the spring headwaters, then paddle back upstream to KP Hole. An awesome day excursion by itself!
How did she drop at the KP and leave at the other spot? Is there a shuttle?
I canoed the Rainbow around 1992-4 & I was really impressed by the size of the gar. Some were six to seven feet long. Lots of Slider turtles.

Withlacoochee river is great . I used to go out there night fishing , little red eyes all over the water. gators everywhere , good times .

Loving these videos in my backyard!!! We usually go tubing down the river (it’s an awesome swim too). Haven’t seen may gators there, but turtles and a couple of otters 🦦 fishing and playing. The ducks had little ducklings last time we went!

In my young days I camped at Rainbow spring at least once a year for many years. Also did a 4 day canoe trip on the Withlacoochee River. We put all our gear in 5 gallon buckets. In those days you got them from a fast food place that had them from pickles. Everything packed in them smelled like pickles no matter how much you wash the buckets out. I have a huge painting hanging on my wall that my father did of the sunrise over the Withlacoochee from a photo that was taken on that trip. And ... yes ... you are pronouncing it correctly.

How cool! A Zebra! 😁 Great video, we paddled Merritt’s Mill Pond a couple years ago, stayed at the RV Park, not really our style but super convenient for kayak launching and access to town, very cool park across the highway. Next time we’ll camp and drive from the state park though, I think.
Yay Kelly, You made it to my neck of the woods and yes, you pronounced Withlacoochee River perfectly. When you said, you had no cell service, I knew exactly what day you were there. How you ask? I saw a bunch of my friends on a social media site that I'm on complaining as well that day. From what I understand of what happen, it seems some major fiber optic lines were cut. So, not your phone. You had a great day of wildlife spotting. I kept watching for a friend of my in this video, because she kayaks the Rainbow River several times a week. You may have even passed her. I will share this video with her. The camp site was something I haven't seen before. That was cool. As for the allergy, it might have been from handling the hay and most likely you touched your face. As always Love the video.

I was just there this past weekend at rainbow spring. But I love Kelly springs I think is one of the most beautiful springs to chill at not sure if you been there but you should definitely check it out.. I’m looking forward to camping there .

Nice loading of kayak. I used to put my foot up on the tire then have the kayak up on the leg so lifting it up was easier to side load.

Good video. I live 15 minutes from this river. Another good river in our county is silver river in Silver Springs Florida. You’ll see it monkeys gators.

I did my open water certification dives on Rainbow River in 2007. I need to go back again and get an awesome sammich from Wawa while I’m there.

I got certified to scuba dive on the Rainbow River. There are aquifers under the river there stream into it, literally water flowing out of the ground into the river. There are boiling sands, where water from the aquifer seeps into the river through the sand and makes the sand look like its boiling. So much to love about this video, my personal favorite was the friendly zebra. The otter was pretty cool too. Can I ask how much was the night in the Hobbit Hotel?🦓🦓🦓

When I first started kayaking i used J racks as well. Truth is, you don't need them. Your kayak is small enough just load it on the cross bars upside down and strap it down good. Use a towel to protect the top of your car. Tons of videos on youtube on how to load kayak solo to cross bars

Interesting comment about not seeing Alligators where you are paddling at 6:00 . Have seen gators mostly in murky - swampy water. ||| You sure find some interesting places to stay… {Friendly Zebra}. Kinda sad to see the development compared to when we lived in Dunnellon. Some things are more important than commerce. Absolutely beautiful area. Many hours spent on the Rainbow and the Withlacoochee.

Kayaking, not really my cup of tea but somehow, you make it seem like taking a drive and enjoying the view. Stop by a wharf, take a snack and then jump back into the river and pick it up where you left off. Somehow, I saw the connection between kayaking and taking a drive - no hurry just be there and enjoy it .. ergo, I enjoyed your kayak adventure .. crocs gators, good thing there are no such things on the Highway .. bad drivers - beware

Even easier. Take it from a guy who has lifted and portaged a few thousand times. Place kayak or canoe upright on the ground in front of you. Pick up the near side so the seats face away from you and the rounded bottom is cradled on your upper thighs. Reach across with one hand and in a single move pivoted off your thighs, roll it up and over your head. Half of the lift is done with the weight on your thighs,, and the roll to up and over is then one smooth move close to your center of mass.
What is the trail portion you hiked in this?
mapquest! but hey, once you printed the directions never had to worry about service, right? Wondering if you got the sniffles from the hay. That hay dust will stay on your clothes.
Mapquest was actually a little before my time haha but I remember it worked fine for my parents 😂
