  • Dr. Chatters has dedicated her life to cultivating, creating, and sustaining more equitable spaces.In her talk, Dr. Chatters will speak about growing up legally blind and the impact it has had on her life through her experiences with biases, bullying, and self acceptance of a disability that was to some, invisible. Note: this talk was recorded according to local and national COVID-19 safety guidelines without a live audience (clapping was added in post-production). Director of Equity and Inclusivity of the State College Area School District, Adjunct Associate Professor of Counselor Education.     Society may as well conform, considering basically the only other option would be to revert back to 'eliminating the weak'. Otherwise this battle will be neverending. Why not simply design with everyone in mind

    Just for those who didn't know, legally blind means your vission is being able to see objectsthat are only 20ft or less out of 200ft, in one of your eyes.😊

      Yes, in other numbers means your prescription is at least -2.5 or lower.

    It is a shame this video only has autocaptions as others have mentioned.
    However, I think its important for us to think about what accessibility looks like and the wide range of accommodations we can make for differing disabilities and conditions.
    And if you're unsure what accommodations to make, ask.

    I watched the whole video waiting for her to suggest how we do this and I must have missed it. This is a great idea, but making employment more accessible for disabled people isn't a new idea. I was hoping for some new ideas on how to tackle this.

    Just 1 in 4? I thought it was much higher, unless you don't include retired folk.
    Accommodating disabilities can be costly for businesses and public services, but common courtesy from the general public overcomes many of the issues.

      Being told you're "inspirational" purely because of a disability is not the compliment you think it is. She's inspirational because of the work she does, not the fact that she 'doesn't look disabled.'
