Darkness surrounds me like a suffocating cloak, its tendrils creeping into every corner of my mind. Fear, an unwelcome companion, grips my heart with icy fingers as I recount the events that led me here. It all began with a simple job, a task to uncover the mysteries hidden within the depths of the forest. My companion and I ventured into the unknown, seeking a truth that should have remained concealed. But as night fell, our weary bodies succumbed to the embrace of sleep. When I awoke, the world around me had shifted. My companions were gone, vanished without a trace, leaving behind only whispers of their presence. Determined to unravel the mystery, I embarked on a desperate search, my footsteps echoing through the silent forest.
I, Liam, a 27-year-old, recount the events that led me here.

This really feels like a fully self-aware parody. They basically took the story beats of the series, but did it in such a way that they (intentionally?) took out all the horror out of it by skipping all the tension and *only* showing the parts that would be scary in a proper game.
I’d really hoped it was a parody and commentary on how bland and repetitive the actual series of games became, but after reading the store page, I think this is just someone genuinely trying to make a good clone.
@@thysens I don't disagree, but just to play a bit of devil's advocate, I assume/believe the creator's grasp on English isn't on par as you or me. And inexperience and cultural differences may have strongly played into what we have here.
Honestly, it feels as if the creator is just a child making a game so I can't really make fun of it, despite having a laugh at the absurdity happening.
Honestly, this fails as both a parody and a game. Clearly it aimed to be riffing Fears to Fathom, but I think to punch down on something you need to at least measure up to its standards, if not exceed them. And this doesn't come close.
It's only twenty minutes long, and in that time I was both bored to tears and unamused. It wasn't funny, it didn't seem to even understand the FtF source material it was supposed to be parodying. Whatever you think of Fears to Fathom, those games are competently designed, thoughtfully and carefully crafted, with stories someone actually put effort into writing.
This was just crap.
@@Blisterdude123 Just to add to the FtF stories being well written, *supposedly* the stories are submitted by real people and they're presenting the stories as actual events that really happened either to the writer or to somebody the writer knew. Now I fully understand the likelihood of somebody falsifying details or outright making the stories up, I'm just relaying what the context of the stories is *supposed* to be. No ghosts or cryptids, no alternate realities or mind bending geometry, just things that could potentially actually happen to somebody. I think that sole factor is what makes them so compelling, to me at least, not to mention like you pointed out, competently designed.

Firstly thank you for playing the game and I hope you enjoy it
For those who are making fun of the game, I started learning programming about two and a half months ago, and I am not a professional in game programming. As for the game, it is very similar to the fears that must be understood. In the game description I wrote this text.
While developing, I was heavily inspired by the Fears To Fathom episodic psychological horror games. You should play them if you like horror games!
Also, if there are errors in writing the dialogues, I do not speak English and I use in-game translation.
Sometimes the translation is somewhat unclear and incomprehensible
If there are any problems or errors within the game, I am still learning programming and will try to improve

The text isn’t too bad, it’s the story that’s all over the place.
I can’t tell what Liam was doing there in the first place (he hunts weird organisms professionally?). He had no supplies, got picked up in a truck by people who don’t exist? Managed to get a text after driving into the middle of the forest for hours, fell asleep after seeing a monster, found a road but didn’t stick to it, stole a camper van, got cornered by men with guns… it just made no sense.
All those time jumps too; they rob the player of gameplay and any sort of danger.
Please keep making games, but perhaps write out a story first. Also add the small details that CJU was looking for (get dressed, microwave your food, put supplies and a tent in the car) it all adds to the experience
Am I supposed to feel sorry for you? This is absolutely horrendous. You should've spent more than two months learning, because I can't even call this a half-arsed attempt at a game.
You should definitely feel proud for having made a game as that's something few people ever do, so don't let negative critics get you down. Just try to use them as a way to improve your games. As others have said, it's the story that needs work. It's jumbled and is confusing, with the constant changes of time and lack of direction. I'd suggest writing out a story and playing it in your mind, trying to work out how players might understand what's going on. Keep working on games, and best of luck with them!

Woof, this one was rough (but great vid as always!). Utterly incoherent story, and it blows my mind that the house was actually a purchased asset that shows up in other games. (Like, door that opens directly against a toilet and also there are two cloned, unconnected sinks? Worse bathrooms do exist IRL but you really have to go looking for them.)

I also failed to fathom why they chose to blatantly copy its general aesthetic. Being inspired is one thing, but literally using the exact same assets is just lazy. Thanks for the vid Chris.
A Perfect example of what happens when someone who has no idea how to write a story but can create a game, makes a game based on another game. Its clearly Fears to Fathom inspired, whos stories are not exactly groundbreaking, but even here the "story" is such a mess.

Chris, there are so many times you play great games that I find through you and not other CZcamsrs! There’s a great indie horror game called Manny’s I’d love to see you play and I’m surprised you haven’t! It’s about our character who washes up on a deserted island and a mysterious fast food restaurant appears only at night. It’s scary, cinematic, and darkly funny.

Here's me having finished the video and I'm still waiting for a plot.
This game feels like a dream. Not in an interesting way, or creepy, like a fever dream.
But like someone telling you about a dream they had last night, in all the weird but boring details, "... and there was another guy, and he was also called Henry Johnson, and then we were in a car, and I was rude to them for some reason, but then I was in the middle of a forest alone, but it was a weird forest, and I was searching for a 'living creature'..."
