My guilty pleasure is any loot game getting that new weapon is such a rush for me
I see Glen has chosen the less than festive attire for today's appearance. Good for you Mark, stay in the spirit.
Loooove that you put up the definition of min maxing haha. Amazing vid.
To be totally honest I nearly missed you putting the definition of minmaxing up because I was already feverishly typing it in a comment "well akshually..."
Honestly, watching the 12 days of SwitchUp are probably the highlight of my day, especially with how busy it is at work, it's just so chill and easy to watch you guys to end my day! Keep up the good work guys!!
Ah so cool! Great to hear! Mark
Same here!
I hear you out! It's so nice to watch after work to just relax and see potential new games!
I totally agree with you!
This year, Tears of the Kingdom was very addictive. There was just a bunch of bite size quests or shrines that felt like they wouldn’t take very long, and they would be within sight once you finished the last one. So, foolish me would think “sure, I can do one more” before realizing I’ve been doing one more for the last hour or more
For sure! Mark
I put in 170 hours into TOTK. Probably the most addictive game for me too.
I find RPGs to be the most addictive games for me. I just can’t continue through the main story until I’m done with literally all the side quests and events possible at that given moment. Over 180h well spent on XC3, SMT V and Persona 5 this year alone. 😅
Same here, I have to do all the side quests and with some games it seems never ending 😂
I feel you're pain it's time consuming but so worth it.
Isn't the most addictive game the game of salivating over eshop game sales and smashing the buy button to add to the ever growing, impossible to defeat, gigantic backlog? Some say it's even more fun than the games themselves.
@@r_apt_urewhat if you miss some important bit of character development...or loot that you would have otherwise had to purchase? Or not have a bajillion health apples or what have you?!
Bruh I’m literally the same WAY🤣
I dont know what it is about this series but for me, you have managed to capture some kind of nostalgic Christmas feeling.
I haven't played any of the addictive games on this list, but the addictive game I have been playing is Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. I got really addicted to going in and finding new spots to graffiti or characters to unlock. I had a streak where I found skin after skin for the skates. Hiding the songs (which is its own reward because those songs are amazing), or different outfits for the characters kept me going back for more. Can't wait for the next episode, guys
I’m addicted to Mark saying ‘see-ya’. Never stop. 😊
I can't help but mimic this whenever I leave the house.
Brotato and Vampire Survivors both have that addictive factor like Civilization's "just, one more turn!" Thing it has going for it. Gamedec is super fun. Ive always been a fan of those isometric style games since playing Commandos as a kid.
Can’t describe Dredge but most creative description of Ember Knights! Frankensteinians with sauted potatoes. Genius
This is the second time you guys have put Advance Wars in the 12 days, and the more exposure I have to it, the more I’m chomping at the bits to try the game. Looks so addictive! Cheers, gents, I’m going to be sad when the 12 days end!
Y'all had way too much fun with this one 😂
I've been playing Vampire Survivors the last few days and it IS SO ADDICTIVE. And yet I still haven't made it out of the forest lol
Absolutely brilliant game.
Hi guys, My addictive games this year was No Man's Sky, Remnant from the ashes, monster hunter rise and borderlands 1.
It's been an absolutely great year of gaming for me 😊
Oh great choices! Mark
My switch is quickly becoming my easy dopamine fix with so many great roguelikes games. For me the addictive part is chasing those legendary runs where the stars align and choices synergise perfectly together. They are rare but the feeling is unmatched.
Ah nice that’s very cool! Mark
Min maxing is what I do everytime i watch yalls reviews, I'm minimizing my debt and maximizing my quality of game! Thanks guys!
Ghad dammit Glen, get that sweater on ya scrooge!
He hated it 😂
lol no this was just filmed first it will be back. Mark
Even though it came out in December of 2022, I played through the Crisis Core remaster this year and I found the gameplay to be very addicting. I spent so many hours only completing missions.
That game is gorgeous, and the fighting system was awesome.i 'm gonna get it back again i think. But games where the story is like that, with missions and less focus on the story, like in monster hunter rise or astral chain, i have more trouble getting into them....
On the 7th day of Christmas my SwitchUp gave to me, a new addiction I can't get rid of 😅
Hahaha oof! Mark
@@SwitchUpYt it's your fault I redownloaded Pirates Outlaws on my smartphone as well 😁
It's interesting what addictive means to different people. I don't play roguelikes much, so for me, I find addiction in a great story. Like Persona 5. I'm so invested in the story/characters I cant stop playing, that's addictive to me. It's also why I enjoy visual novels so much 😊
Is visual novel the same as point and click btw? I don't think i've ever had a visual novel, but I have thimbleweed park, that i didn't try yet, and i used to have oxenfree, are those point and click or visual novels?
Can’t even explain how much I love having a new switch up video to watch every day for 12 straight days, it’s a Christmas miracle!!!
The most addictive games I’ve ever played are Hades, Portal and Stardew Valley! I only found them thanks to these lads. Also, bring back the high pitched “see ya”!!!
Man 2023 has kept me so busy this year with gaming. Xenoblade 3 DCL, Zelda, Howarts, Octopath 2, Shredder’s Revenge, Tales of Symphonia, Persona 5 and many more. 😂😂😂
I got the physical copy of Double Dragon, it came with stickers and poster and I gotta say, it's fun. The routes of bosses change depending on what you choose first, and even though it's short, I had fun with it.
Brotato is such a great game at a near giveaway price.
Advanced Wars. The feeling you get when the tides turns from being hopelessly out numbered at the beginning of some levels to knowing victory is within your grasp.
In terms of addictiveness, nothing beats the digital crack that is Vampire Survivors! It’s absolutely mad how that game sucks you in.
Loop Hero was a pleasant surprise for me. From the initial look of it you'd think it wouldn't be anything special. But once you start to play it you'll be surprised how in depth and addictive it can be. It's a very good game in my opinion
I downloaded it around 23h00, the next time I looked away the sun was peaking up on the horizon.
I agree. Good game...looks like smeared mud on a shingle
For me what makes games addictive is just one more turn or one more day mechanic's. For example I was hooked on LittleWood for a few months. Something about that game with just one more day had me playing for hours at a time. I know it's not from 2023 but still a blast and still addicting.
It is amazing how addictive gets can depend on the person. I for one find simulation games addictive. I like Stardew valley, Animal Crossing and like playing Prison Architect and other games where you can build your own world.
Great video as always guys. For me, most addictive genre is 4x games. Especially the Civilization series. I played through all six entries and the spin offs (Alpha century, the A.C. beyond Earth, ...). I grew up from being a child to nowadays playing these games, and spent thousands of hours in total. The last entry, the Civilization VI, got it day one when came out for PC and did the same with the Switch version. Totally worth it.
Dave the Diver was super addicting to me. I always wanted to do onw more "run" or dive :D
They always added a new element to the gameyplay. So many cool Features. It never got boring.
Oh that should have been on this list! Mark
I want to get this game at some point but I'm getting Dredge for Christmas first.
@@Biggus__Dickus I also played dredge. It is a wonderful game. But for me Dave the Diver is clearly the better one. But yeah this is just my personal opinion. Both are great
@@Mr.Vetkoek I have yet to play either. I will save myself until I can get Dave the diver physical.
My addictive game is Dragon Quest XI S.
I never played a JRPG that wasn't pokemon before this. I usually don't like long games. This game really didn't look like my typical choice, but I didn't have much money one week, and heard that the demo was very long and you could continue your progress. I have since sunk 200 hours into this game, and its in the conversation for one of my favourite games of all time. Well worth playing.
Octopath Traveller 2 was my most addicting game, absolute masterpiece of a JRPG I couldn't put it down
Vampire Survivors is a personal favorite of mine!
Mark and Glen: How much addiction do you want?
Me: Yes.
Bomberman is such a throwback for me. I was so addicted to it on the SNES with the multi tap and a few controllers. I always had them in tow when going to a friends house.
Thanks for brightening up my morning gents! The video yesterday was great! Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Ah great to hear! Mark
For me, the most addictive game has been Splatoon 3. I never played 1 or 2, so a new experience. And it's just so much fun
Half way through the series guys. It has been a nice journey so far, having a closing video before ending my day-to-day tasks. Thanks guys!
Great video! It reminds me that I need to get back to Advance Wars again; I had put it away when I was ignoring everything else to play it! Good thing I've got a holiday coming up!
If only HoloCure would be on Nintendo Switch, then it would be the most addictive game in the Switch.
Also, been a while since I watched a SwitchUp video and you lads are killing it! Keep up the good work mates!
Night Shift finished and watching the 12 days is slowly becoming a highlight! The phenomenon of addictiveness that you lads mentioned is such a true thing - highly individual, sometimes (or most of the time) surprising (ie "I didnt think it was for me") and just damn fun! Hades naturally paved the way for me but there's more to list here XD
I love how different your takes on what an addictive game is and really enjoy that although I typically agree with Mark, Glen is constantly broadening my horizons and getting me to try things I'd normally never consider
Dredge was extremely addicting for me. I couldn’t put it down at all and tell everyone I know about it. Haha.
I got addicted to Vampire Survivors too. It has a slow start but once you get more upgrades, it gets going hard.
risk of rain is extremely addicting … that’s where i’m at.
The banter was my favorite part of the episode. The podcast makes sense.
Min maxing means not only do you max the top damage you can do. But also make the low-end damage as high as you can get it as well
Another great vid, lads. For me, addictive games are when you have quick missions and you keep playing 'just one more' time. So I'm going to say my most addictive games have been Dust & Neon, Bleak Sword DX (both games you recommended), TNMT Shredder's Revenge, Splatoon's Turf Wars are super addictive, and Persona 5 Tactica which has surprisingly quick and heaps of fun tactical turn-based battles!
Remember bomberman in my childhood as such a fun party game!! couldn't get enough of it :)
Another great video guys, it's so nice to start the day with these!! Thanks again
Vampire survivors and dave the diver were my two most addictive his year, very different feeling but both always got me with that 'just one more run' feeling
Ember Knights so much yes! Been absolutely loving playing that one with a couple of mates. It is another VS-like but Army of Ruin has stolen many hours of my time so got mention it, plus it's actually a lot more than the VS-clone but in 3D that it looks like at first so well worth checking out
Going to check that one out. Thx!
Well I definitely found out what min-maxing exactly means, thanks for that 😊 anyway, a game that is really addictive for me is the original Bubble Bobble, got it on the switch and can’t put it down! I think that the constant effort to reach a higher level or a higher score in every run is what made it addictive, and the fact that you succed in that little by little
Bubble Bobble is my top 3 games of all time. Just the most engaging game of my youth. From arcade to home computer to console. I love it forever.
Having never played it or any of the games in the series, Pikmin 1 has been my addictive Switch game this year. That sense of discovery and micromanaging has just been hitting that "must play for just one more in-game day" impulse in my brain. Looking forward to 2 and beyond when I manage to pull away from playing 1.
Only thing better than pirates?... Christmas pirates. Another great video!
Too busy playing my switch I almost forgot you dropped a video every day over Christmas. One of my most addictive games that i keep going back to has to be loop hero
Great pick! Glen
Love how loopy you guys got towards the end there lol. Keep up the great videos!
That was exactly the same as me with Advance Wars back in the day, picked it up on a whim looking around in GAME and there was nothing else that I really wanted so took a punt and I loved it. Ahhh back in the days when I was living at home with a disposable income, I took those times for granted lol
I genuinely enjoy this series every year, you 2 are so entertaining, you can tell you really are friends 😊
After a long hard days work it's nice to sit down have a smoke and a cup of coffee and watch my daily dose of switchup
Vampire survivors is one of those games where you mean to play for just a few rounds and suddenly 3 hours have gone by haha
Great video! Alot of these games look really unique and awesome. For me, my most addictive game(not just for 2023, but every year) is either Mario party or Mario Kart. That’s because those are the 2 games my whole family loves to play (even my mom who knows nothing about video games). My family is so competitive and we have such a great time playing. So many memories with these games from childhood all the way through adulthood and now having a child of my own. Fire one of these games up and hours go by before anyone notices! As much as I love solo games, nothing compares to my family gathering around the tv and having a great time together!
love the banter, quite a marathon filming session
No joke--if you guys made merch with some of your funnier quotes, I'd be there. Your conversations are so much fun.
Cult of the Lamb! I got addicted to it as hell, couldn't put it down and kept thinking, even dreaming about it!
Nice to see some different games in this video, some I never even heard of.
One of my favorites that I'm replaying at the moment is Tangledeep.
I've never beaten it unfortunately yet. I came close but somehow died in a dream dungeon upgrading a weapon. I was also on the final floors and wanted to do some prep.
Game rng threw me in for the "lols" apparently. 😂
Love the absolute chaos of you both in this one 😂 this is legit my favourite YT channel! Keep up the phenomenal work guys!
I have such good memories of playing Bomberman with my older brother and his friends when I was a kid. We rarely did stuff together because of the age difference but Bomberman was always a sure pick. I should pick up one on Switch to play again.
Playing Broforce with my son at the moment. I’m hooked, it’s so fun and playable. The 80s action hero unlocks are incredible - so much fun.
Vampire survivors is the very definition of "just one more run". Just as eith hades, the constant small rewards that is added after each run becomes a strong forward motion that keeps interest high throughout.
Thanks for sharing! Happy holidays🎉
Where did the Christmas jumper go? Not feeling festive? All jokes aside, some good choices here. My favourite from this bunch is Vampire Survivors for sure, spent hours playing that late summer with my boy. Recently it's actually been Lego Fortnite but my choice for most addictive game would actually go to Suika. The most addictive game I think I've played. Fully completed Mario Wonder but put more hours into Suika.
I watched the intro to Ember Knights three times 🤣🤣🤣
Addictive is anything that you can't put down! I get your angle with the selections though. They've got that degree of pace, level ups and repeatability to them.
I finally caved in and splurged on Tetris Effect and found it pretty addictive. Also something Frankenstenian sounds right up my alley 😂
I honestly had never heard of any of these games besides Bomberman, Brotato, and Advance Wars, so thanks for making this list! You guys made me crack up when you were trying to find alternative names for pirates. 😂
O wow guyz, I have gotten sooo much info and laughed soooo much.... I laughed soooooo hard with you guyz this round.i will check out your other videos ... Oh and don't worry I think we alll need this laugh with all the Holiday craze. 🎉🎉🎉 happy holidays everyone
For me addictive games are those I think about all day at work waiting for a chance to pick up the Switch again, rather than games I can't put down. Dredge got me hooked earlier this year and Dave the Diver. But the most hooked I've been this year is with Disco Elysium.
I think platformers like Mario and adventure explorers like the 2D Castlevanias are the most addictive games. Games that offer a variety of different environments and mechanics to explore.
Enjoy watching these videos and the sales videos. I have purchased several games that I might not have because they looked interesting in the videos. My backlog also grows each year because of your videos as well. Lol!
Highly recommend vampire survivors, perfect to play while traveling or when you're in family and don't want to be too inside the talk but still wanting to be part of it
I find my mood and my corresponding need on any given day dictates what will be addictive for me in that moment. Do I need a quick hit of dopamine? Do I need to chill out? Do I want to go on an adventure? Do I want a beautiful storyline with some characters I can get attached to? So many ways to get hooked!
Excellent vid guys.Great games too.
Some addicting games in general I can easily recommend are
- Risk of Rain (literally any of them)
- Hades
- Hollow Knight
- Monster Hunter
- Have A Nice Death or Death or Treat
- Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2
- Enter the Gungeon
- Dead Cells
Also a short and fun. Little gem albeit imperfect is ITTA. A really great bullet hell tbh
Min-Max:
In an RPG where you have a bunch of different stats / attributes, you pump all your points into only those stats / attributes (max) according to your desired build, for example Strength, HP for a specialised damage focused tank build, while putting none (min) into the rest (such as speech, intelligence, dexterity / ranged combat), rather than trying to spread them evenly across all stats / attributes. You do this when you want to be as powerful as possible as a specialised build type rather than being a more balanced build.
Advance Wars just brings back good old turn-based addiction.
I have enjoyed you most addictive series this year. You guys always find some different and unique games to share during these episodes.🎉
I have Gamedec downloaded but I haven't started it yet. Still finishing up Children of Morta. Now you've given me the reminder I will try and start it 🙃 Cheers for the vids so far guys!
glen needs a christmas jumper
He has one haha we just filmed this pre jumper
Hyped for Bomberman. Such an iconic game for me. I would play it with friends my whole high school. I wish I could go back to those times.
I appreciate the content guys, my addictive game right now is lonely mountains downhill.
Vampire survivors was the one for my family, and it’s easy enough that my six year old has a blast running around and even a basic grasp of which weapon combos he prefers.
THIS is seriously my favorite video you two have ever done. I only have a couple of these games but I wrote down most of them and Im excited to try out a couple maybe after Xmas when I get a chance. Thank you Mark and Glen!
Haha thanks mate glad you enjoyed it. Mark
Valthirian Arc: Hero Story 2 was SOOOO addicting to me. I love games with the combination of management and combat.
Brilliant videos as always! Pirate outlaws seams the art style as monkey island! Asked my Mrs for dredge on physical for Christmas, looking forward to it
The real MVP of the channel is Glen’s dope Tottenham jacket
One of my most valued qualities in a game is replaybility but it also really makes it hard to get through my backlog when I’m still playing games like enter the gungeon ages after I’ve already done everything in it
Dredge was addictive for me. Kept going out for one more trip until I had finished the game. Looking forward to the DLC, but need to work on the backlog first.
Another great video gents. It's a much needed wind down after a very tedious day.
I can't say I've been addicted to many games since playing on Switch but most recently has been My Time in Portia which I didn't think I'd enjoy as much as I did. It's definitely a relaxed game, more routine than I would have liked but oddly works in it's favor. I'm still exploring this new genre but I already have three girlfriends and a sizeable operation within two years in-game😄 There was also Potion Permit, another SwitchUP recc, which I'm still working half-way thru. There's also Ollie Ollie World which I can't recommend enough, Super Mario Bros. Wonder (absolutely superb fun), Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Metroid Dread, Subnautica, No Man's Sky, Red Dead Redemption. Mario + Rabbids, Going Under and Cruisin Blast to name a few.
Seeing vampire survivor again after not playing for a while immediately gave me the itch to play! Talk about addictive!
I’d say addictivness for me comes from the storytelling… there are some good point and clic I couldn’t put down till the end like Röki or Road to Calvary.
Vampire survivors didn’t seem like something I’d want but I’m now thinking different. Thanks for another great video.
