  • Hey guys, welcome back to another vid! In this episode we discuss 4 different spots to shore dive on the Gold Coast. If you are a beginner spearo or just looking for some different spots to dive, give these spots a go.
    Spot 1 - The Seaway Spit: 00:20
    Spot 2 - Narrowneck Reef: 02:28
    Spot 3 - Burleigh Headland: 04:10
Spot 4 - Palm Beach Artificial Reef: 05:30
Thanks to Noah for the Narrowneck drone footage, check out Noah's channel and the full video here: tinyurl.com/2p...
Safety: Use a dive float and always dive with a buddy. After a dive, even if it is shallow, spend plenty of time recovering on the surface. Do not dive up and down too frequently, it is very important to relax and recover on the surface before breathing up and diving again.
It is best to hit these spots after there has been 2-3 days of Southerly wind (southerly wind tends to bring in clear water). High tide, small swell (ideally under 1-2 foot) and light wind (ideally under 10 knots) is ideal and your best bet to get clean water and good visibility at these spots.
Some fish you could expect to see at these spots:
Common: flathead, bream, whiting, luderick, drummer, tailor, blubber lip, wongs, dart
Uncommon: mangrove jack, parrotfish, tusk fish, school mackerel, mac tuna, bonita
Rare: jewfish, spanish mackerel, yellowtail kingfish, cobia, snapper
Other animals: turtles, manta rays, sharks, baitfish
    Spot #1 Seaway Spit
    map location: tinyurl.com/hz...
    - 2-8 meters deep
    - fish may be flighty because its quite a popular spot
    - beware of strong currents when the tide changes
    - beware of boats
    Spot #2 Narrowneck Artificial Reef
    map location: tinyurl.com/yc...
    - 4-8 meters deep
    - line up north of life guard tower and swim out approx 150-250m
    - beware of boats
    Spot #3 Burleigh Headland
    map location: tinyurl.com/3c...
    - 2-3 meters deep
    - launch and swim out in the little bay
    - beware of surfers
    - do not spear too close to Tallebudgera creek entrance
Spot #4 Palm Beach Artificial Reef
    map location: tinyurl.com/2p...
    - 2-6 meters deep
    - best to park at 19th Ave, 21st Ave or 17th Ave
    - The artificial reef is approximately 270 metres offshore, is 160 metres long and 80 metres wide and was constructed using 60,000 tonnes of boulders.
With all these spots, chances are you might not spear anything or get an amazing fish, don’t get disheartened. If you have been spearing a while you know that it can require heaps of effort just to land one decent fish, but as we also know it is all worth it. I’d love to see if you guys do catch any fish at these spots so message me on here or dm on IG @gene.morson

when i traveled australia with my parents I did spearfishing everyday, but i havent done it since I've been home because i just felt unsure. Do I super duper need a float and flag in all these spots? should i be scared of rays or sharks at all?

What wind and swell do you recommend ? Tried going out on the seaway and got pounded in the breakers, any tips ?

    • @primal_pursuit
      @primal_pursuit  Před 2 lety

Under 10 knots of wind and under 2ft of swell when diving the seaway. It can get quite rough at the seaway, you can check out the cameras on Surfline at The Seaway Spit to get an idea of what the swell is like

Nikita if you haven’t got the gear to buy for spear fishing , get hold of a 3 pronged pole spear or make one to get started , or if your handy at making stuff you can build your own spear gun if you can’t afford to buy one , CZcams has plenty videos on making your own speargun , hope that helps , as for fins there pretty cheap for the snorkeling fins , and mask and snorkel , got to start somewhere right , when you can afford more upgrade from there. Happy spear fishing , the only way that can happen is get out there and do it. 👍
