I think Nico was least morally flawed GTA protagonist, but Michael was more real, more thoughtful and grounded in reality, even though he betrayed his friends, he never lacked self-reflection, introspection and his view on morality wasn't as subjective as Trevor's. And finally - Michael's actor is much more skilled, you can feel the life in his character throughout the whole game (not mentioning how Ned Luke embraces his role and interacts with community, that is absolutely astonishing), he really did put everything into his character, while Nico's voice acting and overall character was somewhat bland and monotonous
