Got back into the Hobby from my son collecting Pokémon cards. Started collecting modern NBA cards for about a year and got over it. I only now collect Michael Jordan my Nostalgia, I had a 120 MJ cards from 10 years old. Now my collection has gone up to 800 MJ cards stored in top loader binders. I love collecting MJ and getting all the cards i wanted as a kid.
I totally agree that the Nike Jordan promo is a very important card. I think about these oversized cards more like memorabilia rather than a regular card.
85 Jordan Slam Dunk card is under priced. The Jordan shoes with the dunk is everything.
Absolutely love all three of those oversized Jordan cards you mentioned. And I’m guessing they will perform very well moving forward now that people are displaying cards in their homes and offices more than they ever did before. The bigger the card the better for display purposes
Jordan is the Wayne Gretzky of Basketball :)
You’re 100% right Michael Jordan is the Mickey Mantle of our generation
Griffey is the Mantle of the 90s
Maybe a baseball but not value of card collecting Griffey definitely has a lot of good cards, but they’re not in the value of a mantle or a Jordan
@@rayhildreth7821 That's because Jordan is very highly overvalued. No player in history of any sport sells as high as Jordan, and there's just no reason for it at all. Magic, Bird and Olajuwon were all as bit as good as Jordan. Heck, Olajuwon was even drafted ahead of Jordan as a #1 draft pick. Jordan was just the favorite, and thats all it boils down to.
@rayhildreth7821 exactly why I started buying Griffey rare refractors and inserts a while back. Lots of room to grow compared to Jordan's market
@@duanetomka6559 I like Jordan. I found a different market in photos of him and started buying them. However, you can't go wrong with Griffey. I happen to be a big Griffey collector, along with Mays, Bonds, etc. Only difference is, I mostly just buy original photos. He'll get up to Mantle prices later on. At least with the Tiffany rookies, rare inserts and photos. Hard to say if the junk-wax-era cards will do much.
I do like that nike jordan card because that become the jordan LOGO… so yeah that nike oversized card is a great card.. that card is the jordan LOGO...
I missed the boat on the 101, damn. Been kicking myself lately. Wish I pulled the trigger over the last 1-2 years I’d been watching it.
I got one of those interlake Jordans back in 1985 from the YMCA when I was 7. I found it in a folder I had kept it in about 5 years ago. I sold it, for a couple thousand and the guy got it graded. It came back a 9 🤦
Wow really cool you got a copy back when they were handing them out!
Yeah, I lived in Chicago almost all of my life until recently. I was always aware of the Star Cards & when I worked at a Card Store in 1992, all of the hardcore Basketball collectors viewed the 101 as the real rookie. They were hard to find back then even! Finally got a PSA 7 off Dave Dzendziel at last years national before the boom, so I guess that makes up for the loss on the Interlake lol!
I think if I were to do it all over again; I would have just bought multiple 101s instead of trying to chase them all. I sold so many cards last year just walking the show floor at the national, I could have bought both of the PSA 7s Steve Taft had at his booth for 20k each (by way of Dave).
I ended up buying the nicer of the two, & went & purchased all of the other Star Cards I could find. An 85-86 117 MJ, an 1985 Last 11 ROYs set, and all of the 1992 Dream Teamers Star Rookies. I still did pretty well, as pretty much anything original Star is up across the boards.
I always wanted to get a lot of Star cards, I had some back in the early 90s, but sold them at one point.
Awesome man! They are great cards
Awesome video. I am the same age as you and have the same exact nostalgia - early-career MJ cards rather than the ‘90s inserts. Great choices!
Thanks very much!
I hope you have the 1992 upper deck Jordan base card. Definitely not the most expensive, but it is hands down Jordan's best card ever esthetically and it not even close. The design, clean photography, and the Jordan full photo is iconic. Imo no other Jordan comes close to looking as good.
great card!
Had those prism stickers on my bedroom door. Who knew😢
Woah 😳
It's not sports related at all, but have you read "Ready Player One" - if you like 80's nostalgia, I think you'll like the book.
Haven’t read the book, but saw the movie and it was great. Ready for the sequel!
@@TheSportsCardDad As they always say, the book is SOOOO much better. So many product, items, video games, and movies that they couldn't include in the movie bc they didn't have the rights.
To comment on the popularity of odd sized cards. Old baseball cards were smaller old nba cards were taller. There is still a high demand for them
80s and 90s were my childhood and were the absolute best not only for sports but movies, characters, cartoons and the list goes on and all we know to do is create replicas of that era. Great times and I am from Chicago. Growing up here with Jordan who was the culture was something so special!
Man that's awesome!
I think the 85 to 88 fleer jordan cards are not rare but are rare in high grades.. I think those r the cards that will have value thru time… plus he only had the ONE fleer card each year.. not like today where a player has 100’s of cards in a single year...
84 Court Kings 5x7 MJ is possibly the earliest licensed MJ card. Imagine if that picture was on the 101?!!!!
Im targeting any of those stolen 2 million dollar cards. If you got em im a buyer at 25% comps
I got my eye on an 8.5 (either PSA, Beckett or SGC) 1987 Fleer Jordan.
Love that card
Remember that video where you addmitted to being a card addict and how it negatively affects your family? I feel you on that.
Honestly it’s just a few influencers pumping these cards
I hope thats the case, because if they let off of it, I’ll be there to buy the dip all day every day 😂
The whole "jordan counter-culture" thing here is kinda funny. The Star jordan's, outside of the 101, aren't particularly interesting to me. They're not particularly good looking and they were never nostalgic, must have cards in their time. Whereas the 90s Jordan's are the most iconic cards of their time along with Jordan's game changing impact to sport, and those 90s insert/parallels game changing impact to the hobby. And we mid-late 30s millennials were the kids of that era who are now coming into money to spend on those nostalgic first of their kind chase cards.
But that’s kind of my point, your age group never was interested in the 80s stuff, there’s no nostalgia for it for you guys. And if you’re mid to late 30’s you only ever knew glossy cards so yeah, the 80s stuff is boring etc. 5-10 years of age makes a huge difference in ‘card taste’, whichever flavor you prefer. And the reason they weren’t ’must have’ in their time is because Jordan had not fully emerged yet. Like I said, I understand the draw to the 90s Jordan stuff, but do I want to be the guy breaking the next all time high price to own one? Not really
@@TheSportsCardDad Thats fair. I just don't recall anyone being "nostalgic" for 80s star cards back in the late 90s or even in the mid 2010s when I got back into cards as an adult. Which I suppose it didn't have to be cool back then to become cool now in that way. I think the "Star" product and brand is just generally weak for a few reasons, especially compared to its main competitor of that era and beyond, FLEEEEEEER 🤣
@@chrishayes4166but also nobody was nostalgic for 90s Jordan inserts etc until later on. Those cards were a small fraction of the price at the time and I saw a Beckett magazine from the early 2000s showing the green Jordan pmg at like 10K as ‘overrated/overpriced lol the biggest difference between Star and Fleer is very simple, dramatically lower print runs for Star. The Fleer cards are great too, but printed to the 🌙
@@TheSportsCardDad Yeah but time has to pass for nostalgia to build. And that PMG example is a great point to how impactful/in demand that era of cars were vs how frankly kinda weak/underwhelming the star era releases were. But you may be right. Maybe we've just ignored them too long and they deserve their own big multiplier. They're not for me though, at least not at any significant dollar amount when compared to so many other great chase Jordan's out there (The 84 #101 aside....but even that I have a long built in "what if it's a fake" response that I struggle to reconcile along with the cost to acquire one)
@@chrishayes4166 I mean a guy just bought a fake red jordan pmg on ebay recently. We can apply the 'what if its a fake' to every card out there that is in demand
cant argue picking up the goat's cards
I got the Jordan InterLake 2 years ago in a Psa 10 for 20k. Best purchase I have ever made.
Nice!! 👍
Do you know what’s funny though back then when we were growing up inserts were the ones you wanted to pull now these people they don’t even care about inserts I think within time these inserts will be worth more than the base cards or the silvers
could be right!
I’m a seller, can you expand your list?
😂😂😂5 figures for a sticker.......wow.
Scottie Pippen was not drafted by the bulls. He was drafted by the Seattle Super Sonics in a deal with the bulls to trade him to the bulls which is what they did.
Pretty much just semantics
What up SCD….WHO DAT
who dat?!!? Ready for football season!
Same…..
I have 2 5x7 court king jordan fleer cards.. they are great cards.. great for display of ur collection
Good video today.
we'll get to more of the non sports/entertainment cards on the next Off Centered show 👍
Love the prism jewels! Vending machine = peak 80s magic!
Great Vid man! Isnt that Interlake awesome! love that card. Yes - I am much more interested in building a "museum" type collection than the shiny stuff. IMO your picking the best (investment AND cool) stuff up. Any of the early limited Jordan cards you picked is really building such a cool collectible museum. also just to throw my 2 cents in - I think when Lebron is gone he will be somewhere between Kareem and Jordan as far as legacy. My son and his friends dont seem to like Lebron at all really which was surprising. They call him a crybaby.
well said man! Lebron doesn't have even close to the likeability as Jordan. Not in the same universe
@@TheSportsCardDad agree - the Jordan Brand and "cool" factor are just light years above Lebron's image.
Nobody outside of the klutch owned sports media likes lebron.
Please stop pumping that BS 84 star Jordan.
lol yawn 🥱
He aint wrong. Theres really no other MJ card out there that is not only as significant, but the population is low. Everyone is free to have their own opinion of course. But MJ will be remembered longer than any single athlete in history.
sounds like ur trying to pump the early star cards cause that is what u have recently bought.. this video is pretty apparent in that.. not a good video for u..
Wrong shohei is most collectable ever. And has more money in his cards. Bitting my takes i said this the other day. If theres a pizza , shoehei slice is the biggest.
huh? Shohei literally just started his career
@@TheSportsCardDadhes in his or 7th big league season with 5 years years as a pro in japan before......his career isnt "just starting".
@@johnwayne9828 I would take you more seriously, but you choose to disagree with EVERYTHING I say lol
@@TheSportsCardDad I don't care if you take me seriously, i dont take you very seriously either. But what did I say that's incorrect?
@@johnwayne9828oh I definitely know that lol I like genuine debate, but when haters come with their usual daily hate comment, I just lose interest quickly
disagree totally.. jordan does not have the most value in cards of any other player !!!!! baseball rules that… ruth, mantle, wagner….jordan does not come close to those 3.. the top 10 of those three players cards tops all of jordan cards… easily..
Why would you want a Jordan card? He's addicted to gambling and all around bad guy
