here we have a language barrier.
"comedy" in the USA means all types of funny sketches (political standup as well)
Here in Germany we differ by varous types of that StandUps - and the political standup comedy has it's own word in germany (satire; Volker Pispers style is "Kabarett").
In the US it all belongs to "comedy".

Also the comedy in political "Cabaret" comes from leaving out certain facts and background information which the audience has to know, to undersand the joke.

"Nie wieder darf von Deutschland Krieg ausgehen" does not necessarily mean "Germany should in no way whatsoever support the start of a war."
That is your interpretation. And it is ok if you understand it like that.
But it reads more like "Never again should a war originate from Germany." Putting Germany as the cause or the main actor of an upcoming armed conflict, something that should be avoided. It's a call to remind Germans of their past and not necessarily a call to neutrality.

Yeah but he is also not always very accurate in his depiction of said history. Not all events were as clear cut as portrayed by Pispers.
Like the support for Saddam against Iran is not as clear if you dig into the matter. It can be argued that there were interest groups in the US to cause chaos but the official line was never on the side of Saddam. And that is the difficult part to objectively criticize the US, on one hand there is a well know strategic interest to keep everyone who could be a cause of concern weak, but on the other hand there is a new president at least every 8 years. And the constant battle for attention in the seemingly never ending campaigning for the next election is quite often partly cause for the shit that is coming from the US. It seems there is never a period where the leaders can think shit through and that leads to shitty decisions.

Someone who is not that well informed or even hears about this for the very first time, could possibly take everything at face value.
And that is why he has become some kind of "prophet" for conspiracy theorists. But he clearly distanced himself from that kind of interpretation.
I'd say he presents facts in a funny way from a one sided perspective, others who had gone down the rabbit hole as to believe in the deep state and the great replacement or something like that would say he is just telling the plain truth.

Pispers even fails to mention where the lies the US presented at the UN council came from, from Germany. And while it is clear that this is fact, i never heard a panel discussing this very interesting question how a file from the BND ends up as fake evidence to start a war.

The jokes are supposed to make you laugh, but depending on the severity of the topics being talked about, the laughter might get stuck in your throat. You understood correctly what "Kabarretist" in German means! It is more intelligent and often political stand-up comedy. Sadly, many "Comedians" in Germany often make jokes based on sexist and racist cliches. Cabaret often does the "punching up" and speaking truth to power instead, that's why I like it more than German "Comedy". And I have no problem if you do not talk a lot in reaction, I too have to listen intently to people like Pispers. He drops so much information!
Thank you very much! Looking forward to tomorrow!

Boy, this is interesting for me to watch.
Volker Pispers is one of the very best political comedians of Germany. His researches are brilliant and he has a great actor with sarcasm phrases he puts the finger on the points where it hurts. For many reasons you won’t understand a lot of what he is saying. But he shows in the mirror of the lies around the oil wars, how they tricked the world. Yes it’s pure a pure history lesson. It’s interesting about your thoughts while listening / that’s real entertaining 🤭 but finally sad but true. This was one of pispers best performances - germany is a great producer of weapons (it’s the business) enjoy and think twice - he is talking about the reasons behind. Peace and happy new year.

The context of his comment about Merkel: Angela Merkel grew up in the GDR (East Germany) which was indeed a dictatorship. The dictatorship was overthrown by peaceful demonstrations which led to the fall of the Berlin wall. Therefore it did not make sense for Merkel to use the GDR as an example to say that violence was the only way to get rid of dictators it was rather an example for the opposite which is why Pispers made fun of the quote.

I can only imagine how hurtful it must be to watch this as an American 😅
I know, german political satire (and especially Volker Pispers) can be quite merciless in holding a mirror in your face and showing all the dark truths most people would like to ignore.
But it's also important to learn about it, to understand that 90% of todays problems and conflicts are our own faults, as our governments in the past tried to meddle in the affair of those regions for short term gains without considering the long term effects. Thus it helps us in understanding the context and can hopefully stop us from repeating the same mistakes in the present. And as it's quite the dark truths, the vehicle of comedy helps in better stomaching and accepting the truth about this hurtful past.
