  • Created in the year 1952 by the Bell Telephone Company, "Modern Minute Men" is a Civil Defense film that looks at communications in the event of an atomic war, and the "modern minute men" who will sound the alarm like Paul Revere. The movie takes place in Ohio -- a seemingly unlikely place for a Soviet nuclear strike but a significant target nonetheless due to its industrial centers and military bases. Concluding the film, then governor of Ohio Frank J. Lausche emphasizes the importance of providing aid during an emergency.
Upon release, the film proved popular and in June of 1952, it was nominated for an award in the "Best Civil Defense Film" category of the Cleveland Film Festival.

Marker 20:22 spells things out nicely. Today there are fractions of what it means to be an American. Sadly people willing to help and prepare are maligned and shunned as fringe elements. Same with police and our servicemen.

It really is better if we all work together for the better of our lives. Many of us want that and are willing to do our best for it, but it's so easy for fringe lunatics to ruin it for everyone. A crazy teen shooting up a mall because he has a gun fetish, or a racist throwing a bomb in a diner because it's black owned, and being labeled a hero by our cynical politicians who think life was grandest when "everyone was a slave owner". America has always been like that as evidenced by other colonial countries that still haven't gotten over discrimination harming the community, but I will say things are far better today than they were before because more people are willing to be honest. The media focuses on the worst and we often see the worst online because it's sensational. Those are the exception though, we just need to hold those fringers accountable more, but tell that to Elon.....

This kid! XD "imagine Paul Revere riding on a horse warning everyone. NOW they'll fly in with SUPER Bombers!" is like us today telling our parents "Why do we bother with an airforce? Couldn't we just build unmanned drones and send viruses?" It's up to the old generation to remind new ones why they're still alive and prosperous, but it's up to the new generation to remind the old that if we keep worshipping the past instead of thinking of the future, it'll END with our generation.

Yessir...I had a convenient excuse to stay at home and sit out the big one as an air raid warden, even though we had zero chance of getting bombed. But you little Jimmy? I'm going to support a war 13k miles away, and if you don't go, you're just a damn hippie.

@@briankistner4331 This! It's the very reason we Americans are so grotesquely paranoid that politicans can somehow convince us that our own neighbors are spies and need to be executed. Nothing about this raises morale, just fear and insecurity. I recall having a conversation with my dad about it and VR technology and AI as well. My dad is from the generation where AI and robots were taught as being self sentient machines that would destroy humanity and VR was mind control, but as I explained to him that it's impossible for that to be the case cause no one on the planet knows how to manipulate other's minds electronically and AI is just at best a guess and check algorithm, it can't think on it's own. He reaffirmed to me that a lot of things taught back then were pretty much for the sake of fearmongering to keep people submissive. He was smart enough to recognize it, but was startled at how within a generation, the stuff could go from the scariest thing on the planet, to the most exciting adventure.
and it's not even just the government. Hollywood, wealthy organizations, anything where a few rich guys can use thier resources to convince the masses to follow thier lead because they have the airwaves on lock. And stupid people eating up the propoganda and parroting it around forcefully like "Either the Bomb will kill you or my BELT!" Well gee I'd rather the bomb. at least that's not out of MALICE.....

Sad part is, German subs were in American waters & sinking many different types of ships, even off the coast of North Carolina. And Americans had no clue. Most still have no clue. Yep, we are a clueless society.

@@rapman5363 Oh dear, someone should read a book.
In January 1942 British intelligence warned the US that two groups of German U-boats had been dispatched to attack shipping off the east coast. The US failed to act on the warning.
US merchant shipping was not arranged into convoys but continued to sail alone and largely unguarded.
US cities had no blackouts and remained brightly lit; allowing German U-boats to sit offshore and spot shipping highlighted against the bright background.
The result was three months of carnage in which over one hundred ships were lost.
Ms Morgan is correct, most Americans were unaware of the losses as they were (understandably) covered up by the US government.
