I also find that some people's hair can just not like certain ingredients like aloe vera, coconut oil, glycerin, panthenol etc. I personally found products that gave me wet frizz or super tangled hair all had a common ingredient my hair didn't like.

I love your videos Gena! So refreshing to see what curly hair normally looks like, I often feel like a failure when I wake up in between washes and my curls are all flattened or stretched out. I’m not bothered about frizz (I have a lot of it) but when it’s all stretched out I want to give up and go back to straightening it every day.

After using a strong hold gel I recently started drying my hair with my dryer on low speed setting and using the pointed nozzle especially directed to my scalp. This has helped speed up my drying time. Just a tip I discovered. This technique hasn't increased my frizz.

I tried the Living Proof Curl Defining Cream bc of the recommendation of another curly influencer- Curly Chelly. She doesn’t have as many followers but she’s a retired hair professional and I like her content. Anyway, I think the Living Proof defining cream is EXCELLENT. I am transitioning my curls back to health from a bad bleach damage experience. I need products that help with moisture retention and curl clumping. This product does that.
On top of this, I use a heavy cream made by a small black owned company Nature’s Little Secret; it’s their Irish Moss Styling Cream.

Your hair looks great! I tried their curl enhancer, gel, and oil on my fine wavy/curly hair and was underwhelmed and ended up returning them. I didn’t notice much in the way of curl enhancing. The most disappointing part for me is that they changed the LP signature scent for the curl line. I love the fragrance of the products in their regular line, and thought the curly line would be similar but they aren’t and I really don’t like it. Even though the regular products aren’t made for curly hair, I get better definition with their perfect hair day styling cream and mousse, with the added benefit of the original scent.

I love the Living Proof! ( Except the Gel, it’s not good) 2 things to know: their conditioner works like mix of conditioner and curl cream and really starts the clumping and definition process impressively. When paired with the curl cream it’s the best I’ve found.
The products really do work better the more you use them!
But I absolutely dislike the Gel and don’t use it.
The rest of the line is worth twice the price to me!

My hairdresser recommended these products and I blindly purchased them at the end of an appointment. I was flabbergasted by the price!! I do love the shampoo- it lathers well and reminds me of the old days of washing my hair and getting rich suds. I found the conditioner to have good slip and like the styling cream. The gel is ok but I’ve used others I like better. I don’t particularly like the scent, particularly of the oil and could pass on that. I’ve tried using the oil on dry hair and haven’t seen any wow results that would justify the price. I haven’t had good results mixing products from different lines so I’m building a stash of fairly expensive products looking for that “unicorn” line! I wanted LP to be it but I agree that there are less expensive options out there that will work just as well.

Your hair looks shiny defined and with SO much volume girl! I love these products because they’re super lightweight and don’t weigh my hair down! Some of the Curlsmith products have butters/oils that are too heavy for me no matter how little I use so this was a great option! My hair is course low density and high porosity just like you so I can’t wait to try these! 😍

Another great video! Thank you! I have frizz at the crown because my curl pattern is completely different at my crown. I checked to be sure I did not have breakage up there after watching your video but it is definitely just a weird curl pattern for me. I have to put a bit more leave in and/or curl cream up there to keep it under control. I also focus my brush styling up there. And when all else fails, I flip my hair over to the side to try to disguise it lol! I think my crown is a result of mother nature being silly when I was made.

During the first lock down I decided I was going to tackle my hair and really work at getting my natural curl to its best.
I followed another CZcamsr and learned about deva curl so I stayed away from that
Then found shea moisture and was excited about the natural products. I was using their curl shampoo, curl conditioner, curl cream.
At first I really loved it and my hair was glossy for the first time ever.
However after 6 months of using it my hair was falling out, and my scalp was sooo itchy. I've now realised after research that shea moisture isn't for every one and I personally can't take so much oil or maybe protein?
I now have to use a medicated shampoo alongside head and shoulders to keep the itch away
But my curl is frizzy, my hair has gone from thick full head to quite fine especially at the crown.
I've always been a styling mousse and hot diffuse girl so I've never actually used a gel
Do you have any gel favourites for finer hair? That doesn't have shea or coconut in them?

Hello, will shea moister sea kelp and argon oil help with high porosity hair? I have type 3 hair, and I recently got over protein hair from using shea moister silk and protein conditioner, curl cream, and there coconut virgin oil. I don’t wanna make the over protein worse, In my bathroom there’s so much hair on the floor from my hair shedding and braking off.. my mom tried fixing it by using coconut oil, and straightening it and there’s a lot more hair coming out. So I tried using “argan oil of morocco” by ogx it made it shinny, and after a couple minutes back to being dry. So I looked it up and it said it contained lots of protein. So than I tried mielle “rosemary ment scalp and hair treatment” and put it up in a messy bun I have no idea how it would turn out tomorrow morning. Could you please help on what to do with my hair?

Then once I’m home and it’s completely dry it looks amazing idk what to do 😭it could just be the diffuser I have, it’s pretty cheap But I don’t know 😫

Your hair is extremely similar to mine. My ends dry and frizz and near my scalp it stays wetter. I also see you’re using the Shark IQ. I got one for Christmas and I like it a lot. I will watch your frizz video later on today. For hair products, I use the Ouidad Vitalcurl line and the mousse as a leave in. When I re-wet my hair in the morning and lightly dry, the curl does come right back. I do find I need to wash twice with this very mild shampoo. Finally towards the end of your video, what did you mean by (your hair) “transitioning”? Thank you.

    • @GenaMarie

The brush actually helps encourage curls at the root for me! It's all in the brush technique. I start right at the root and begin twisting the brush very close to the scalp. I also scrunch all the way at the root.
