Thank you for this great video. During this pandemic, I've written many stories about my family, my ancestors and my experiences both in English and in Spanish.
What an inspiring, motivating presentation, especially the telling vs. showing part. I appreciated your perpetual smile and life-affirming validations, too. I have witheld writing because of only wanting to be positive, not wanting to reveal the sorrows I feel burdened with, but after reading several of my ancestors' writings and patriarchal blessings, I am getting a glimpse of how I can without burdening the reader. No one likes a Debbie Downer, but perhaps focusing on how I've grown, and how, despite the tragedies, being able to see the Lord's hand during the valleys, I am sharing sad things but ultimately mining the blessings will be a blessing to readers who also are experiencing awful things, but not to despair.
This was a fabulous presentation and has certainly made me rethink Journaling which is something I’ve not ever done. Your tools for writing a story should help me tremendously. I once attended training for how to write (for briefs and documents) for my job. The biggest advice I took away from that class was when staring at a blank page just start writing words. Literal words and then sentences that don’t need to be on topic just what pops in your head. Your mind will eventually take over and write what needs to be said. It truly does work because starting off let’s you “relax and ease” into your thoughts which eventually come around to the subject upper most in your mind. Thank you for this video!
