      Way way way too expensive. Rather get 5 tarps, a big roll of ducktape, and a solar powered beer cooler. Gotta keep the priorities straight. Then lets watch the fighters in lounge chairs.

    I can’t speak for their shelters but Sierra Designs knocked it out of the park with their Flex Capacitor backpack. Very pleased with that purchase.

    7 pegs for a decent pitch is fine by me, plus 4 guy outs if windy, plus 2 if you want to use the porch feature which you probably wouldn't in a decent wind = the 13 supplied pegs. If you don't read the instructions carefully you will probably use the 4 guy out pegs near the pole mounts in the tent body instead of hooking the fly cord loops around the pole tips. My favourite feature is the really short length of the poles, so much easier to carry on a bike.

    I do not have one of SD tents , but I do have some other their Micro-light pants and jackets . In one case I was wearing a ODR Mithral Hybrid in the fall and I had stuffed the $15 SD Micro-light jacket in my day BP along with the $20 pants JIC. I was scouting for deer and a new place to camp and only planned 2 B out 4 the day .My pants and ODR jacket were NOT stopping the wind and cold , threw on the SD Micro jacket and pants , problem solved !!! Was worried about pushing thru brush and stuff but they both held up . They are both PERFECT for day hikes and to use as wind breakers . STP did have them both at stupid low prices . Have used them both many times now , especially during moderate weather and as a layer to stop the wind , they weight NOTHING !! Great products both !!!!

    Reminds me of my Marmot Starlight 2p, which was a great tent. SD seems to have addressed some of the Starlights flaws. Allowing for full cross ventallation and opening a side up for air. I would make sure that it's staked out well for breathing in rainy weather. I would be concerned about the mid section stretching in the rain causing dropping into the tent. Is there anything to address this?

    • @Narx9
      @Narx9 Před 3 lety

      Almost all two person tents are even easier than this. They don't have velcro straps for the fly, many don't require any guy lines due to robust pole systems, etc.

  • @dirtyteeth0
    @dirtyteeth0 Před 5 lety

    Always with the footprints hanging out past the tent bodies. Whether it’s this one or some polycro you’re using on other tents (that you would think you’d cut to size). Any moisture/rain is gonna catch or lay on the excess and find its way into the tent body. Are you using random footprints from other stuff? Do you use one piece of polycro for setup vids. Would make sense but I feel like I’ve seen you do the same thing on actual trip vids too. Discuss

  • @DennisdeMelker
    @DennisdeMelker Před 5 lety +2

    Great video, this tent is only a 1 person tent I think? It looks a bit small to me for putting your gear in... the seperate fly means more versatility in summer but also longer setup process. So when its pouring rain your tent gets wet on the inside before you have time to put the fly on.... If this is meant as a trekking tent I pefer the more simple method, where the poles are on the outside of the tent and the inner tent is attached so I can put it up faster. The weight is ok for this pricepoint I guess. I use a Hilleberg Anjan, which is a 2 person tent that has about the same weight but....twice the space. Unfortunately this is also 2,5 times the price of this one, so I guess you get what you pay for... Pegs look good, however these guidlines, ring attachtments and poles look a bit dodgy to me, wonder how long those will last... color is ok but noy a fan....
    keep the good videos coming !

      @jackrabbit8842 Před 5 lety

      This is basically just a larger/more complex bivy. I've been able to fit all my gear + me in my MLD Bug Bivy 2 by stashing loose gear in my pack and putting my pack under my legs. I could see there being enough space in this to squish your stuff off to the side, or since it has a vestibule just using that. This probably isn't a shelter designed with people who put a lot of emphasis on living space in mind, though the awning would do a good job with at least creating the illusion of more space. I've been looking for something like this to replace my tarp/bivy combo or Tarptent because I don't really use trekking poles anymore and just want a simple shelter with its own simple/small pole system so I don't have to run around looking for good sticks to pitch with when I get to camp.
      What I don't get is why it has so many damn tie-outs. There's definitely to a way to simplify it with some home-made solution, but it's a bummer that they felt the need to over-complicate this for some reason. That's probably where a lot of the weight is coming from.

    • @justincarter7331
      @justincarter7331 Před 2 lety

      @@jackrabbit8842 The extra tie-outs on both ends are necessary due to the pole design. The main mesh panel at the top of the tent covers a large, unsupported distance, so it ends up being very loose when the tent is pitched. This is because there is really no tension being applied along the length of the tent. Attaching the four velcro loops on the fly to the poles and then staking out the guylines at the head and foot of the tent introduces enough tension to stretch out the mesh body and dramatically improve the internal area. The tent is still functional without these guylines being used, but the experience is a bit claustrophobic with the mesh hanging out you, and I doubt it would perform that well in strong winds.
