    As a kannadiga I didn't really care about Rashmika's relationship with Rakshit Shetty and I didn't really understand the hate for her wanting to better her career instead of being married to someone who is much older but the problem was when she refused to acknowledge her roots and slowly started being shady towards kannada film industry which deeply hurt people who were on her side when she broke off the engagement. It all finally blew up with that interview and unnecessary hand gestures. She probably gave this particular interview before Kantara craze happened and boy did that backfire hard 💀 like I'm sure she wouldn't have acted all cocky if she had given the same interview after the film's success

      Exactly, we have nothing against her for breaking the engagement. She was young, had more opportunities to explore. But I really started disliking her for the shady behavior towards kannada language, kannada film industry and her debut production house. In mangalore we don't speak kannada on daily basis but we are fluent in kannada, similarly every coorgi I met till date can speak in kannada very well. I don't understand why she behaves as if she is from other state. Her English isn't good as well, any guess about what language she spoke when she lived in bengaluru ??.

Later on she got really bitter about it and started being shady especially since she was getting so much opportunities in Telugu. She thought she was above KFI and deliberately started showing off how she's sucessful. I think she is another spoilt out of touch from biology,reality- indoctrinated pseudo intellectual. Such interview question arises because heroes legit are able to retain their looks n shape more than heroines. Example? SRK, AB, salman, sunil shetty, hrithik roshan, akshay kumar, john abraham. On the other hand most female celebs lose their looks(away from camera especially) to say the least, owing to their pregnancy and biological facts like women having slower metabolism, menopause, etc. which they don't have any control over n am not blaming them. It's natural ❤️.
      Also, most people including women consciously or subconsciously follow n admire an actress more for her looks than acting in comparison to actors. There must be a reason why nana patekar, rajpal yadav, AB, nawaz are so celebrated but not that lady who acted alongside brett lee or any non stereotypically gorgeous looking actress.
      Don't outrage over everything ffs

  • @naanu1104
    @naanu1104 Před rokem +177

    With respect to Rashmika and peoples hate towards her, it wasn't Rashmika vs Rakshit or Rishab or anything. Rashmika and Rakshit got engaged after Kirik Party and they broke it afterwards. Just after that she got her break in Telugu with Geetha Govindam and rose to fame in Telugu just like she did here in Kannada. And she started sucking up to actors etc in awards shows (Hiii sirrrr....is a famous meme here in Karnataka). She came on Instagram live and people used to comment talk in Kannada while live (her primary audience was still Kannada at that time), she told only English for now, no Kannada. Then in an interview in Tamil she tried speaking Tamil and the interviewer appreciated her efforts and she told she tries to learn but she doesn't know any language properly. The interviewer told, you must know Kannada atleast, she told no. She doesn't know Kannada also that well. Then when rumours started that she is dating Vijay Devarakonda, she told in interviews that he is such a great friend, he is not insecure like her ex (i.e Rakshit) and he helped through her break-up etc etc. Rakshit Shetty never badmouthed her anywhere and always wished well for her and future, while she continued talking about the relationship. Pushpa was released in Kannada also, and when journalists asked her why she didn't dub in Kannada herself, she told she didn't get time. People were not happy with her once she went out of Kannada movies and when asked why she isn't doing any Kannada movies, she told she isn't getting any good script and she is not offered good movies and all, yet she did average movies all over other languages. It was kind of clear for the Kannada audience that she abandoned the very crowd which gave her an overnight stardom for more money or screen space with bigger stars elsewhere. And her interviews and actions kept on adding fuel to the hate. It was never about just the break up. She never respected the people of Karnataka and Kannada which were the two main factors that gave her the overnight stardom.
    Edit: Add recent controversial statement of her saying South films don't have romantic songs and is mostly limited to item dance numbers during Mission Majnu song release event.
    I can imagine the pain of telugu movie audience now. When they realize, the same Rashmika acted in Geeta Govindam whose romantic songs were a huge it!

    Here's my two cents on the worthiness of film critics: I as a potential cine-goer would want to know how entertaining a movie is. Usually a good movie is appreciated across the board by most film critics. So I watch/ listen to 2-3 reviewers and if the average review is good, I decide to invest time and money into watching the movie. How do I decide which reviewer/ critic to listen to? The ones whose preferences/thoughts I have found to be consistently coherent and relatable in the past. So if Anmol says Bhediya is worth a watch I will watch it. Do I spend time reviewing his review - don't think so. Reviewing a review is something people who are close to the film - esp filmmakers tend to do - because it's too personal.

To me, that depends on the lens you watch a film through and the purpose of watching it. I think if a person watching a film analyses it in terms of the technical aspects of filmmaking and/or is looking to learn about the elements of filmmaking by watching it (like they're "studying"), then that person can be called a film critic.

Like she literally learned other two languages(She would've avoided these questions but she chose not to) and (as I felt from her comments) ungrateful of her first film and roots. Of course that doesn’t mean being a full blown expert in the process of filmmaking, but like Anmol said, having some idea about genre and storytelling beats and stuff related to that.

I have never seen her endorse any of that too. I guess as a community who have hardly had any representation for so long we got excited and expected a lot out of her. Maybe it's not even her responsibility. But it's one thing to not represent but to constantly go on undermining and being unapologetic about it really hits hard. I had the pleasure of interviewing Shriya Saran in December’22. She is all that you said and more. I’ve never seen a celebrity as giving of their time as her. She had a flight at 8:30pm and she stayed with us till 7:15pm despite her staff insisting that she should leave.
    A whole different class.

    If anyone wants to brand themselves as a 'film critic'- I believe they need to be aware of the process.. Aware of technicalities. Rest- people who don't identify themselves as 'film critics' are entitled to their opinions - even though they don't have technical awareness. Coz we are customers and it's our discretion to like a product or not and have an opinion on it.. What elevates a critic is that- knowing the technical aspects of film making, while being empathetic to creators, they are able to call a spade and spade and become the voice of a common person.. They also are able to gently nudge the audience to take note of the brilliance of movie making, sometimes lost to the untrained eyes of the audience..

    Why is Ranveer Singh being lauded so much for simply introducing himself? The core of the matter is Bollywood stars no longer dominate the globe, and people around the world are not aware about them. It’s completely normal for a journalist at a sports event to not know a particular actor from Bollywood.

    • @scientia.veritas
      @scientia.veritas Před rokem +4

      No, the core of the matter is that Bollywood stars are humble enough to behave like a regular person. Contrast this with Bollywood's hayday when actors regularly threw tantrums if they were not treated as royalty.
      Bollywood is actually more well known today than before. This is the first time Americans or Europeans actually know anything more about Indian films than stereotypical dance numbers.

    • @haleemaumair2747
      @haleemaumair2747 Před rokem

      @@scientia.veritas The reason most stars are so “humble” and “nice” is because today they can’t afford to throw tantrums or act starry. They’ll be shunned, trolled and cancelled on social media. Even someone like Kareena Kapoor, who has had a history of being snobbish pre social media time, is now very careful with her words in public. Adding on, I completely agree there is more awareness about Indian film industry today due to globalisation and easy access of good Indian content (not just songs) due to Netflix and Prime- platforms which were not available before. That, however, in no way means that BW stars are well known in the west. They barely have stardom at home.

    • @scientia.veritas
      @scientia.veritas Před rokem

      @@haleemaumair2747 Stardom is inversely proportional to accessibility. Everyone is more accessible today. There is no stardom even in Hollywood anymore - Tom Cruise is perhaps the last Hollywood superstar. Even SRK, Aamir, Salman don't enjoy the same stardom they did in 2000s.

And how on earth it is shameless to ask an actor about their physique when most of hero or heroines try to look always perfect. they want to have good looks always. They put so much makeup all the time. Can u answer why it is shameless to question on something which is everything for an actor?

    I agree with what Anjali Menon said about film criticism. You should have a strong background on how a movie is made before judging it (similar to the phrase put yourself in someone's else shoes.) Of course, you can have an opinion on everything, but there has to be some value to that opinion. Using the same example Mrs. Menon made, you can't just complain there is "a lag" in the movie without taking the time to understand the purpose of the senses and their context. You can't just say that scene was boring and move on. As a critic, you should see what the director or story writer is trying to say and seek out how to make the scene better. Criticism is a form of feedback to help the team improve their work.
