    I've just painted 25 fence panels , in record time ! my method of application was a yellow car cleaning sponge ,as the sponge shaped itself to the contours of each panel,so use a sponge (not a brush ) to apply the bleach solution itll be quicker ¡¡¡¡¡ (each 6ft x6 ft panel took about two &half records on radio I was listening too ) cheers 2 u !

    A nicely produced video.Bleach certainly works well,as does a solution of Jeyes fluid.But it is very time-consuming if you have a lot of fence panels as I do.Some years ago I came across a very effective product called ProKleen.It is far more gentle than bleach,and you do not have to use a scrubbing brush.You simply spray and it kills the moss and algae.It becomes a sort of white powder after a day or so,and largely disperses by natural weather conditions.I am currently preparing my long fence for some treatment,and am killing off any green stuff before re-coating with Roxil.The bleach is of course cheaper,but at 4x 5litre containers for £29 it is safe,effective and less time consuming.It is also diluted,so goes a long way.

    Thanks for the tip. I dislike when there R all the products and hardware stores that U end up buying a million products only to store them. Household bleach is a standard product so it makes like easy and your can use it on inside cleaning too.

    Or you can remove the alge far more effectively, and in a raction of the time, by spraying it off the fence (fully) with a Karcher. Works beautifully.

    i have some metal gates to repaint and they have a load of green algae on them. can i use the same cleaning method onto metal gates before repainting them? any other preparation tips on painting my gates? i was going to use hammerite black paint. not used it before.

    • @AubreysAbsoluteDecorating
      @AubreysAbsoluteDecorating  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Roland. Yes, wash down the gates using a bleach solution and a sponge wearing gloves. Leave overnight and rinse with clean water.
      When dry, use a scraper to remove any loose or flaking paint. rub down the metal gates with a 120 grade abrasive paper to remove any loose paint, rust deposits etc. and provide a key for the paint.
      Put paper or an old dust sheet under the gates before painting. Apply 2 coats of the Hammerite using a 1" brush. I normally use an old or cheap brush for this and throw it away afterwards because you have to buy their own brush cleaner to clean brushes and it is expensive.
      Hope all goes well for you 😊
