Very well done! This really spelled out each step for anyone who's a beginner at this project! I'm going to try it! Thank you!
You are welcome!
I covered a lamp shade using these instructions and am amazed at how wonderful it looks. I never expected something so nice looking!! I am thrilled!!

Great video! Thanks!Even if I don't understand english perfectly, I had seen perfectly how to make it.MERCI BEAUCOUP!
I just bought some fabric from you that I used for curtains to cover a new lamp shade in same room. Mine is much simpler as it is a barrel lamp shade but this gives me the confidence to do it. Love your products and your videos have helped me a lot over the years.
Great video. Exactly what I was searching for. Directions are so specific. Thank you!
I followed these instructions to the letter and my lampshade turned out great! Almost opted for a cheaper adhesive spray...so glad I spent the $$$ on the 3M Super 77 spray because I had to roll the lampshade several times to get it on right. Thanks for the great video.
100 CZcams Videos Later and finally found what I was Looking for thank you! 😉😊

This is so helpful. We searched and searched for the tiny lampshade that is on the sconce light near the companionway on our boat. It took forever driving around to different stores to find this weird tiny size.
Now years later it is getting stained and gross after living aboard that whole time but we no longer have a car to shop around for a suitable replacement.
Now we can recover the old one with the help of this handy tutorial, and use some spare matching boat fabric as well.
Thanks Sailrite!
The only downside is for this project we can't use our brand new Ultrafeed LSZ-1 sewing machine which we just bought from you at the Annapolis boat show. We do have plenty of other projects where it will be used.
I did this, it was easy peasy! Thank you for the tutorial
To avoid the spray glue, I used Golden's GAC 400, rolled it on with a paint roller and it worked great and much safer.
I'm encouraged to DIY my lampshade. Great instructions.
Very helpful, I almost ordered two new shades and then this popped up, so glad I can refinish myself.
Perfect job Sara.
extremely helpful and now you don't have to find someone to give you ideas, its made so easy, thank you
I would like to record my great admiration for these wonderful works of art. I am from Egypt, and my work is in papyrus, which is made of papyrus, the oldest paper in history. I love handicrafts, and I will try to make one out of papyrus
This is perfect for making lamp shade pattern. I had just put fabric over lamp and was going to cut it but this is so much better.
Thanks....
Just what I was looking for 😀 ... Thank you 🙏🏻
I'm glad you found the video helpful!
Very useful! Thank you. Greetings from England xx
Nice job, Nikki! Easy to follow and understand. Seems doable!
Thank you so very much for helping me out
People don’t appreciate old things anymore they just throw things away and buy something new. But they don’t know the quality of the old thing. People want to live to fast now and have poor quality things. And they don’t last.
I can’t find a shade I like. My existing one is too dark. So I’m going to strip it and hopefully re-cover it as good as you did. Thank you so much!
Super helpful but I’d recommend starting about an inch above the corner when creating the pattern. I had to redo mine because of the extra inch needed when fold the fabric above and under the shade.
Thank you for sharing. It is very good step by step instructions.
Thank you for the kind words! I'm really happy to hear that the instructions were helpful to you.
Easy skill to have, and cost effective, considering the price of lampshades (which are insane).
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Very Helpful🤗 Thank You, God Bless🕊️
Good explanation thank you
You are welcome
This was great, very understandable and clear instruction.
Excellent!!
Thanks!
👏👏👏
Thanks so much! Getting ready to recover a lamp shade and this was so helpful!!
I would have ironed the side fold before the spraying, and that would have allowed for easy crisp fold
I said the same thing to myself as she was doing it (also would have pressed out that crease in the fabric that may or may not have smoothed completely out when pressed to the adhesive). I’m just a stickler like that 😂. Great tutorial, though! It was exactly what I was searching for.
Thanks for sharing this video.
Great idea I love recycling stuff
Thanks Sarah
Beautiful!!!!
A video showing how to recover a lampshade when you only have a wire frame and no exisiting (plain white) shade to use as a base would be helpful
Great suggestion. I will add it to my long list of future videos. Thanks!!!

It would appear to me that IF it is not in two pieces, one could roll the frame over the paper as shown.
I do think Dodie is speaking of two rings completely detached from fabric...
I would hot glue them together using some balsa wood, thin lath of any sort, or anything that can be cut to the desired length...
which represents the final height of the lampshade.
It doesn't have to be strong, just sturdy enough to draw a single pattern (roll over its circumference twice... yes?).
(I'm not sure of your desire to have hot glue guns around your tables and fabrics...
... 𝐦𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐞 𝐠𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩... under the shade tarps ... (wink))
Just make three pieces and attach them equidistant around the rings as temporary ribs.
(Remove them before assembly and attach one ring at a time...)

Then proceed as described in the video.

Until that time. . .
The spray adhesive costs the same as a new lamp.
best video ever excellent info thanks !
Nice and simple, Excellent!
Good video. Thanks. I bought a lamp but the lamp shade color was not exactly the one I saw on internet. So I may try to cover it with fabric of my color choice.
Splendid! Best video...
thank you for the pattern 👍
You’re welcome 😊
Good teacher
Very helpful! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks so much, really loved it.
Hi Nikki, I was watching your tutorial for making a lamp shade. I was saying why not just use a tape measure , but I see how the shade has a curve. Thanks for the tutorial, I will be make changes to my lamp with matching drapes Thank you so much :) :) :)
I covered some lampshades with legs cut from leggings. Just added some braid around top and bottom. They look great
@@judyharris4116 that's a neat idea! I have specific material for the one I'm doing now, but will let others know if your idea.
Awesome, helpful video! Thanks much!!
Great video!
WOW!! Thank you so much!!
Your welcome!
thank you
Too cute❤
Nice demo. thanks. I've got just the lampshade to try it on.
Great! I hope it comes out nice.
Beautiful
Beautiful!
Very good instructive video.
Great video, did a great job.👍
GOOD JOB!
Great video
Thanks!
I thought this was a video on how to recover a broken lamp shade, it's actually a way to cover your already good lamp shade with something else
Thank you! Great video..I just need to go get started lol x
Thanks!!!
Thank you!
I wonder if the glue goes tacky or comes unstuck around the edges once the heat of the bulb has been on a while? It's a very helpful video, though. Thank you.
I'm a minute 30 in and I'm like ok this is going to be 5% knowing how to do it and 95% skill.
I can already see where tracing a pattern is going to be my first major hurdle.
Love it
Can't wait!
Awesome!
Felicidades, buen video
another great video ! love all of your video such great information.
Thanks for the positive comments about our videos!!!
Hey there! My question is just about the adhesive spray- it says it's extremely flammable but in your experience has it been alright for lamp heat? I'm assuming so but just want to double check and know if you had anything else to mention about it.
Thank you!
It is very flammable when it is freshly applied, but when it dries completely the solvents evaporate and it is very heat resistant after drying.
@@SailriteDIY thanks for responding so quickly! Awesome
Lovely thanks!
Nice. But I thought you were going to remove the original fabric and apply a new one (let"s say the original one is torn or worn out).
How do we do that?
Exactly what I was thinking.
Hi you can find many handicraft at this channel #original kerajinan indonesia, i just found that. And nice

thumbs up to this video
Could iron the folds so easier to put over the frame.
OMG!😍
Loved it!
great video!
Anyone know any videos on how to re-cover or re fabric RECTANGLE lamp shades????
Do exactly the same thing as shown in the video but mark all the corners on the pattern and then on the cloth. Then snip straight into the seam allowance of the cloth at each marked corner (only cut as deep as the fold will be) to make it easier to fold the cloth over into the inside of the lamp shade when applying it.
OMG - Sarah - did you go to SMC? i see your ring --- doing things!!! great video. thanks for the info!!!
great video. thank you.
+Kari Dunmars Glad you liked it.
Can anyone recommend an alternative to the spray adhesive? I live on an island (Madeira) and people won't ship aerosols because of the explosion risk in unpressurized cargo planes. I've looked everywhere on the island for the 3M 77 - no luck - hardly any 3M products stocked on the island - I looked for UHU spray as an alternative - no luck. I've tried different suppiers on Amazon but they will not ship. Could I use white PVA glue? I have the fabric AND the lampshades but don't want to risk spoiling either by using unsuitable glue. Thanks in advance.
Any particular fabric? Obviously stretchy is a bad idea, but does it have to be thick? Also, if it's a drum shade, I shouldn't need to make the pattern - just measure the height and length, right?
As long as the fabric you pick does not allow the spray glue to bleed through the fabric it should work fine. Yes, you are correct.
How does this work with a stripe?
Store-bought lampshades have a different kind of bottom and bottom hem than you show here. They have a slightly protrusion on the inside, and the edge of the fabric is tucked into it for a neat finish. How is that done?
Not by hand, that is done using machines to bond the edges with glue or RF welding.
Great video. Can't wait to give this a try.
Good.
Great!
Wow!
Can you just spray the lamp shade then roll fabric on?
Yes, I believe that could be done.
Love this video. I have a fabric pleated 6t x 8h x18b shade. The inside plastic is all cracked. Any ideas on a fixing or covering that ?
Id paint it. Not many will look inside. One could though do as the video shows doing the inside first.
We can only use cotton fabrics right?
going to try this! trying to make a mickey mouse clubhouse room and finding stuff is expensive for his room so i have resorted to trying to make my own stuff!!
If you don't have a rotary cutter, don't bother tracing the pattern on the fabric. Just put a few weights on the pattern to hold it in place (books, upturned drinking glasses or small bowls, etc, whatever you have handy) and cut around the pattern with scissors.
Great suggestion.
@@SailriteDIY Thank you!
What kind of fabric ? Is it 100 percent cotton?
Nice❤
Which lamp do you use for this lampshade?
What kind of paper
What is the longevity of the adhesive to the fabric?..I would hate to sell a hand made product to have it fall apart after a few years.
+mandy If glued well it should last years without failure.
Living with demensha
Can I use thin, multiple velcro strips instead of the spray?
I have not tried that, it might work. Let us know if it does or does not.
Ok - so this is not strictly recovering, is it? There's a cover there already
Well, you caught me red-handed! Maybe I should rename the video to "Covering the Cover"!
0MG This was sooo helpful
You are welcome!
I'm only using an old drum frame. The shade is long gone. I'm guessing I have to put down a base cover first? I can't tolerate toxic glues - does this 3M adhesive smell? What a wonderful video. It's just what I've been looking for. Thanks!
+icare4you123 Yes, a base cover would be a good idea. The 3M adhesive does smell, but it is not as bad as some of the others I have used.
+Sailrite Thanks! I can't even stand the smell of hair spray or nail polish so I'm guessing the 3M glue won't work for me. I love the video.
+icare4you123 do it outside ... even if you cannot smell spray adhesives or other toxic aerosol sprays, it is still toxic to your lungs and skin and a dust mask would be helpful too.
