As a past RNLI crew member that served with over 7 women crew on my then station I wonder how Brain Carter would feel now about his comments. Thank you to the person that uploaded these videos I watch them over and over

Just found this series of programmes about Salcombe. As an ex RNLI crewmember of 25 years, the views of one particular individual regarding female crew came as a shock. I have NEVER seen/heard such total CRAP as he spouted...he should be back in Dickensian times....a well-trained crew member is an asset, no matter male or female.

Totally agree Neil.......there should be no distinction.....whether male or female don't come into it....if a person earns their place on the crew.....good for them and yes we would welcome them to the team......on board and on a shout were all one......

25.5 yrs later, I wonder how Lucy made out. Did she make the crew? SAR is not always about brute strength. Best of luck Lucy.

Who ever disliked this video needs to re-evaluate their lives, how could you dislike a video that is about the volunteers who risk their lives to save others at sea.

Wow, Brian Carter feels his kudos as a lifeboat crewman is diminished because a woman is on board. He can't even use her name, "woman", is how he refers to Lucy. He is a piece of work. If Lucy has done everything that the men had to achieve she has earned her place on the crew. I don't believe that women crew did not impact on donations and if I required assistance at sea I am not going to be vetting the lifeboat crew. God bless all RNLI crews.

He's a weak, insecure man who makes himself feel special and strong by being on a lifeboat crew. If a woman is able to do it too he sees it as lessening that. To be honest most of the crew seem to be gatekeeping the job, I reckon most of them are doing it because it makes them feel special, I don't believe in altruism so I doubt they do it solely to save people.

Imagine volunteering, training and risking your life and then being up against someone like Brian on top of it. Thanks for sharing this.

CA W I totally agree with him to be honest and so does my wife.. how is a woman supposed to haul a man out of the sea?? Watched an episode of Saving life’s at sea,, lifeboat was called out to a surfer in trouble two women on board the lifeboat and male coxswain all the two women were doing was grunting and farting trying to pull the casualty on board in the end the Coxswain had to leave the helm and more less pulled the casualty on board single handled..... again women should not be on board

@@castrolgtx5064 'Grunting and farting' really? Your contempt for women is obvious from your choice of words. Poor wife. I just hope you don't have daughters.

Maybe Brian forgets that the the RNLI came about after Grace Darling's rowing a boat to save lives in Northumberland with her father when a paddle steamer ran aground. What an idiot Brian was.

Disappointed with the TV producers and their constant "what's it like being a woman" questioning. This was 1993, not 1893.

Brian, very disappointed to hear your views on female crew members, you are totally out of step with societal values with regard to the role of women. I have no doubt Lucy will be an excellent crew member.
