- This video tutorial will show you how to create a voice-over for Shotcut. Capture your voice within Shotcut and align the file appropriately to match your video segments.
Shotcut is a free, cross-platform, open source video editor: www.shotcut.org
Wow it's rare I find just exactly what I need in the first video I watch. Thank you!
Simple & easy to follow directions with practical examples, another great video from Teacher's Tech!
I think it is much easier to use Audacity for voice recording. Inserting WAV into Shotcut is then super quick. If you want to freeze the image and insert a voice-over, just export current frame using menu "File/Export Frame", reinsert it to a new video track, then insert the voice into a new audio track and sync them. This worked for me better.
Thanks for the smart tip
could you please elaborate on what you are referring to when you say "If you want to freeze the image and insert a voice-over" is that something in audacity?
You are by far the best online tutor I have ever come across. Kudos for always explaining things in a simple, to the point way. Thanks for this fabulous software, too. Having great fun learning it.
Thanks for all of the time that you put into these videos. They are great.
This is a 6-years old video, and now Shotcut has a direct voiceover recording feature.
There is a Mic button over the Timeline. Clicking on it inserts a new audio track in the timeline and starts recording the voice. When you have finished recording, click on the same Mic button to stop recording. After that, Shotcut takes a few seconds to process the sound and display the waveform.
That's it!
Hahah thank you verry much! :=)
thank you it was so simple and easy to follow! Another great video
This was the EXACT thinh i was looking for! Thank you for helping this technologically-challenged newbie future crochet youtube-torialist figure this out!!
I am super new to shotcut, Had Movavi video editor before and was a huge dude....Thank you for the help, your teaching is very smooth and complete, I will be watching you everyday for a while , I appreciate your help...I am now a subscriber...Great Job !!!
Great video! Thank you. Now that I see how this is done, it seems to me that the easiest way to do this would be to just use **any** audio recording program to record the audio while you talk through the video. Then, when done recording to an mp3 or whatever, just drag the file from your file manager/explorer right into a new audio track in Shotcut, and do the cutting, moving, and clipping of the audio from there. This way, you use Shotcut for what it's great for: editing and clipping/cutting audio and video, while leaving the recording part to a tool more well-designed for that purpose.
That's exactly what I was thinking after seeing all the steps involved doing it in Shotcut...
Me also. Audacity would be easier to record with, unless there is some hidden benefit from doing it from within Shotcut.
Loving Shotcut since you turned me onto it. Thanks for this tutorial. It is exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks this was very helpful and easy to follow. Exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks for the super easy to follow demo, I'll give a voice over 'welcome' a try in my next CZcams video.

Totally in here, hitting everything I am using this editor and it works great.
This was extremely helpful! Many thanks!

Thanks for the to-the-point video.
Thanks man very helpful!
You help me a lot sir. Thank you. I always watch you if I need help in my shotcut.
Thanks for ur help, keep up the good work! 😎
Thank you for this video. I'm on Linux Mint 19, and I have a USB mic. I was able to use my mic by choosing Pulse Audio from the drop down list of Open Other. The minute I begin capturing, the display or preview window stays static, until you click on the Project tab, and then you can play the project so you can talk about your video. Click back on the Source tab, and drag the audio unto the timeline and adjust it like in your video. I live in a noisy neighborhood, so I need to silence my audio, and I use Audacity to do that on the saved capture file. I export that from Audacity, and then drop into the Shotcut playlist, and then drag on to the timeline.
Wow! Had no idea I could do this on Shotcut! Thank you.
Good job, excellent explanation.
This is very helpful! Thank you!
I loved your videos
yo! thank you for this video! i really appreciate it!
I started using Shotcut a few months ago. Your videos were a big help, have them in my private Shotcut uploads. Just recently I started having a problem with the voice over. The first few minutes are fine. Then the voice is over lapping & skipping. I do not know if I mistakenly hit an adjustment/filter. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for another great video.
You're welcome!
Thank you so much, this video was great!
You are awesome!!!
Great video thank you very much
Thank you! Just what I was looking for.
Hi, I love the way you explain things, I have an issue I'm trying to voice over but it takes me directly to "export file" does not show the capture option, I've tried many things but they don't work, please help. Thank you.

Hey. I am pleased to learn some new from your tutorial. I found that there are many open source and free video editor online. I am using shortcut now. I am also going to try openshot. I want to know what
you think about them. Which one is better in making a movie? Thanks
Thanks TT Just what I wanted, as usual.
Very helpful, after using "Windows Movie Maker" for the past few years (Don't judge me) XD XD learning info like this does help. thanks Teacher's Tech.
WMM is where we all start. You're in good company! XD
Great teaching.
You are Awesome Thank you
Thank you teacher tech..I learned something new today
New to ur channel, great video
i madde voice file in this way but when i added it to my video i can't hear there
Świetny poradnik.
Love your vids. I'd like to be able to capture myself speaking and then transition to a voiceover of still pics and videos. Can that be done and if so would you make a video showing how to do this? Thanks!
I have this exact same question. If you were able to figure it out, I'd sure love to know.😊
Very nice video. I am just curious. Have you tried to render a long video with Shotcut. For example 30 mins in full HD? I met some "not responding issues" with Shotcut recently.
Thanks! I haven't created any longer ones yet with it. I have seen this issue with other free editors. I'll ask around.
sr please reply... can I sync audio from internal and audio in external in shotcut?
can you give me a list of free video editor whre i can merge 30+ mins video clips shorcuts works great but whn its 20+ mins vid not responding
Excellent work. Can you guide me if I can capture a screen and place my web cam on it. Many thanks
Thank you so much dude U help me alot XD
You're the best! 😇
Excellent video, clear explanation. However, many comments indicate difficulty doing it this way, sometimes due to system crashes, others just because it's pretty non-intuitive. I find it far easier to just record audio externally, then pull the resulting file into the playlist like any other media file.
Windows 7 and 10 both have free "voice recorder" progs included, simple but they work. And of course there is Audacity. Shotcut is great but it doesn't have to be a Swiss Army Knife.
Nice explanation thanks
Thanks. U r learning is process good.
Thanks !
how did this man know im watching this at night
Nice vid this helped
Thank you Teacher's tech.
Thank you
I guarantee you at least a quarter of the views on this video is just me re-watching it because every time I want to record a narration I forget how to and always end up coming back to this video! One day I'll remember...
Im learning so much
tysm
wow, thx!!!!
Is there any chance that we will be able to record to seeing the video with a single click like adobe does it anytime soon? I tried selecting "what i hear" and it is crashing the program, any fix?
Thanks 👍🏽
good job
Thank you....
I am working on Mac. I lose my original video when I pick audio input. I also have to click on "none" video input my default is FaceTime.
Just use imovie bro is 180 times better then this shit is like you need todo 25 steps before you can put your vocals on this video maker on iMovie you just need to press the mic input audio and press record only 2 steps max on iMovie todo the same shit The only reason why I have this shity movie maker because my wife doesn’t want me to use the Apple Mac Pro on iMovie and now I need to use her old ass laptop to make videos 😒
am a beginner shotcut video editor. I was pro on mobile. well still am but getting to learn the in and out of pc video editing and photoshop
Anybody know if these options are in 2.4.0 on Linux? His interface is different from mine and I didn't catch which version he's using.

@@Akshay-08 just press the save button everytime you do something
How do i insert a voice over? I have it on my Iphone and would like to insert it into the video
its same on pc for me
The process to VO in Shotcut is ridiculous. Why does it have to be so complicated? Why can't we simply record directly on the timeline?
Great tutorial. I never would have figured this out on my own. Thank you for your excellent work explaining these steps.
"Why can't we simply record directly on the timeline?"
Now you can. This has gotten updated in the latest version of Shotcut. It's now A LOT easier. Check out this tutorial: czcams.com/video/4K-2_gluBxA/video.html
Shotcut has updates almost every month so go to their website every month or so to see if they released a new version. The news section lists the features and fixes that are in the latest version.
Thank you, I will.
The process is quite tricky. It would be impossible for me to figure it out without your demo. Thanks!
I loved your explain regarding voice over using ShotCut ... and worked to me !!!! ... my advice is do not start with good night, day or morning because you do not when audience will watch your video :-) ... say just hi or how are you today :-)
I keep getting “ failed to open audio “ what can I do to fix that
Same
Nice sir it is very easy
Thankyou
Audio wont add to mine, i can make the track but when i try to drag and drop the audio file it just gives me a red circle with a line through it. I cant find the solution to this issue
okay question so i have a clip with audio on it already and then i took the sound og the clip but now the voiceover is quite too what should i do ?
Use a filter to increase the sound
Thanks for explanation. Isn't there any other easier way to record voice / overdub a video in runtime? It's really unpractical to create alywas new own wav-tracks...
Couldn't do it because it's probably not the same version now. Any tips about how to do it?
I dont know if shotcut updated since this video or something. But I'm finding it no help.
Do you have to install an extra app?
I can’t seem to follow. I do all of this but I can’t see it pick up my voice with the green bars
Skippy same
Hey pls reply as you haven't to everyone else that's commented but when I type up WAV it doesn't come up. Can I use it with anything else and or does mp3 work like you mentioned in the video
i'm getting the same problem
If you and down drop on format scroll down to w's you can select wav
There is no 'open other' on mine for some reason, what am I doing wrong?
I do not have a direct show option in the menu. Also when I check the other options for audio, my microphone doesn't show up (it works with other programs).
same
Can you record without creating a new audio file each time? In the middle of what is said bad additional recording, all recorded together, just like pr
