That stick-up is a old home place. Once just 20 ft. Away from it after a thunderstorm moved through... my buddy and I both had rainbows circle through us (1 through me and 1 through him) go through the clouds and back to us. It was like two full circle rainbows from the ground to the sky. Quite an odd experience. I'll never forget it.

I don’t know if you will see this comment or not, but I wanted to personally thank you. I’m 45 yrs old and I’ve fished my local lake and river my whole life. I’ve mostly targeted bigger fish. Blue cats, striper, and sometimes carp. Occasionally sandbass and crappie also. Mostly fishing from a large boat or the river bank. I’ve raised 2 boys, who are grown now, and taught them to fish the same way. We’ve caught several good blue cats up to 50lbs and spoonbill cats up to 75lbs. We used lots of large gear. 12 ft surf rods and heavy boat poles with Ambassador reels.
Several years I started watching your videos. I now have a 3rd son who is 7 yrs old. I sold my large center console boat and purchased a much smaller aluminum boat. I guess it’s not real small, but much smaller than I’ve had in the past. It’s an 18ft WarEagle with a 90hp Yamaha. We now target, thanks to you, sunfish, crappie, and bass. We still catch lots of catfish and striper also, but they are not always biting consistently. The sunfish are steady. I can take my 7 yr old, grandkids, wife, dad, and friends out and have an amazing day of fishing just catching large sunfish now. They are an absolute blast on small light tackle and consistent to catch when other fish are being finicky.
I’ve also never caught a smallmouth prior to switching to these fishing tactics. We’ve now caught more than I can count just this year alone. One over 6lbs a few weeks ago on an ultra light with 4lb test. It was more exiting than a 50lb cat on heavy tackle! My 7 yr old catches a smallmouth about every trip we take now and absolutely loves it! We call them all “perch” here even though they are not even related to a “real” perch. His favorite fishing now, and mine too, is “perch” fishing. They are fun to catch and release, eat, or even use as catfish bait.
Your tips and videos have changed the way I fish forever and I want to thank you for that. I now tie my own jigs and they are mostly targeted towards sunfish but they are what we catch the smallmouth on also along with drum, catfish, largemouth, and crappie. Everything truly will hit a jig (also learned that from your videos).
My big poles still occasionally get used. I’m hooked on my ultra lights though. Easy to use and you rarely get skunked throwing a jig tipped with a worm. I’ve actually built a jig that is a slow fall 1/32 oz jig head with a worm like tail that I plan to try out soon. My hope is to reduce the amount of worms I have to use by imitating a worm with this jig. I will likely tip it with a very very small piece of worm for scent to maximize its effectiveness.
My point is, thank you! I apologize for taking so long to say that. I wish I had raised my 2 grown boys fishing this way, but I’m slowly changing their minds one huge bluegill, shell cracker, and warmouth at a time.
