The Mercedes-Benz Unimog is like a rolling Swiss army knife. Half truck, half tractor, all MASSIVE. Originally built for farming by a company that made metal trinkets in a country banned from making military equipment, the Unimog now does everything from army service to off-road racing and climbing volcanos.

You forgot to mention that Mercedes is still doing the spare parts for the very first models! A mercedes manager once replied with: "we still dont know" as a reporter asked him whats the average lifespawn of an unimog.
In fact, Mercedes still manufactures parts for every single vehicle they have ever made - and if they have to do it by hand for just one person. You can even still buy every Mercedes vehicle ever brand new (for insane prices, of course) - including the first ever car.
That's not a joke, in my neighboring town a Unimog, built in 63, is used every day for work.

We actually got an unimog 416 with a six cylinder ,5.7 liters ,110 hp Diesel engine and it’s actually A BEAST .It is insanely durable and extremely capable. It can cross mud ,high up to its axels while carrying several tons of soil or rocks and still 0 breakdowns and 0 failures. Also
Can toe many tons (20 and more ) with ease .The fact that a so old machine is so capable and can almost do anything
even after all these years makes me fall in love with it

"... never heard of Unimog.."
In Germany you see these bad bois everywhere, specially in rural areas.
They use them in agriculture outfitted with various farm equipment, transporting wood from forests,as vehicles for firefighters and Search/Rescue teams,in the construction sector, pretty much every municipal district has 1-2 that they use as snow blowers during winter (specially in more alpine areas like Bavaria) or to disperse salt on the roads,to prevent black ice.
They even use them at airports,to pull commercial airline jets.
It's the same in the UK. I work on the railway and I've seen a few different road rail varieties, the most common of which being one fitted with an elevated work platform
think they also pronounce German names better in Germany
Haha first impression I have with the Unimog is that it would make a good vehicle for farming in general
During the winter, you see them all the time. They put on them this dispersing machine, that shits out salt and they drive around covering all the roads,to prevent black ice forming on the asphalt.

@@thepenman4865 no quite the zetros is a heavy duty hauler for of road but can't be used like the unimog to operate hooked on tools.
Jokes on you, I had a pneumatic Lego (Technic) set of a Unimog from years back. I *have* heard of it!
and honestly one of the cooler technic sets I've ever had. I think it was a Christmas gift and it took me a few days to build, but it was worth it. The suspension was incredible intricate, and the pneumatic system was super fun to figure out how it all worked--the A design was a crane arm with a grabber, the pneumatics powered two joints on the arm and the grabber, and the B design was a plow that rotated slightly side to side. And it actually had a "PTO," or the lego version of it, where the motor powered a mechanical system at each end. The plow could move up and down, the crane arm could swivel, and there was a winch that could be operated, on both models I believe
Yep, one of the best models

In summer of 1970 I got a job clearing ski trails at Snowbird ski resort. The crew building the tram used at least one Unimog. Sometimes we would see them headed up the mountain about dawn for their shift. Sometimes in the afternoon we’d see them coming back down the mountain. They were very fond of schnapps. The driver for their crew said that their Unimog had 3 ranges of 9 gears in each range. The lowest gear speed was 300 meters an hour and was used when they put a 2.5 meter radial snow thrower on the front PTO. Awesome!

Plenty of jeeps running around with mog axles sitting under them. They’re quite common in the North American off-road community. Many of those jeep owners may have a mog just for screwing around with. Since I was a little kid, I have always thought they were cool. I just cant say that they are at the top of my list, if that is the kind of vehicle I am talking about getting I would probably lean toward a bobbed M35. Ive used their axles several times though, yet that might even be fading in popularity. One of my family friends owns one from the 60s. Thing has like a billion gears. He keeps in the Sierra’s and it is used to carry luggage in and out of a valley. Super sick truck.
Here in germany unimog is love unimog is life, they are everywhere
'Never hear of the unimog.' I'm pretty sure every car guy in Europe knows what unimog is
Yes I have seen these, in pretty much every country in Europe, being used by civilians, military, firefighters, etc who ever needs a big offroad truck.
But to be fair this channel is american and most of their audience is as well, I think so yea.
spekkel 1 I’ve seen one once at a careers fair and I think it was for military or emergency things. I have read about them though, and seen them in forza
Most of the military buffs in the States know it exists too, just not the friggen range of their capabilities.
An AMC Jeep can go everywhere and a Unimog can go everywhere else. 😁
Unimog....army badass machine these are fkn crazy if you ever get to drive one....plain and simple...AWESOME
