      Lamborghini didnt want their cars in the game. Simple as that. There were also issues with the US license holders, Mattel, who had the license for their Hotwheels and Matchbox brands. There was a "Lamborghini" in GT2, it was the JLOC Nomad Diablo GT-1 from the mid-late 90's JGTC GT500 field. But it was never officially put in the game, because of the licensing issues. But is obtainable with hacks from the NTSC/J version of the game. There are also file names hinting at at least 3 other versions of the car, with previous year designs and liveries. But they were either never modeled, or never made it into a finish build of the game because of the licensing problems.
      EA also had a joint deal with Mattel for Ferrari AND Porsche, and neither EA nor Mattel wanted to give them the authorization to use it.
      Eventually Ferrari convinced EA to multi license, and Mattel lost their license because they demanded exclusivity. Which is why you dont see anymore Ferrari Hotwheel cars anymore, and why they are fetching high prices on eBay.
      The same is also true of the damage models. Damage modelling was always built in to the games engine. Even back in GT1 and MotoToon GP. However, the manufactures (particularly halo brands, and Japanese makes) didnt like the idea of damage on their cars, so PD left the damage models out of the game.
      As someone who has worked on the periphery of the original Project Gotham Racing, and the original Forza Motorsport, i can tell you that automobile licensing is an absolute pain in the ass, and many manufacturers have a lot of weird requests about how their cars are going to be displayed, and why. Licensing in general just just a complete mess really. It ruins more things than it protects.

    • @TheFurryInShambles
      @TheFurryInShambles Před 6 lety +23

      @@soundscape3065 Yep the gran turismo series as a whole is not realistic (people think it is because the game says it is and they just say "okay").
      It's the epitome of a "tunnel game" where your car is on a rail and your input can alter your direction slightly but too much and you just tyre squeel (fine) but if you have an agresssive angle to the direction of travel (like drifting) it massively over corrects any countersteering and just *yeets* you the other direction like a hand of god reached down and flicked you. All while sounding like hairdryers.
      Meanwhile the forza series it your car actually behaves like a seperate physical mass it's meant to be.
      Even the new gran turismo games still behave the same, you can only control the car as much as it lets you and any deviation it will f*** you.

    When I hear gran turismo 4 I always remember how I completed the nurburgring 24h...
    First I was scared it would break my ps2, so I made sure to have a pot full of ice on top of it with a cloth underneath the pot so no water could go inside my console...
    Then I started the race and played for about 2 to 3 hours, after that I went to the pit-stop and changed to b-spec, so the machine could drive the car, went to sleep when I woke up I played for another 2 hours, went to School, after school I would play again for maybe 2 hours and just watch the last hours of the race, when the ai screwd I fixed it by racing myself for a couple laps, and then I finally completed the 24h nurburgring, turned off my ps2 for a couple hours and then started another endurance race...
    Somehow the endurance were the best races for me, I actually felt like I was a racer, imagine my face when I discovered the gt6 didn't even had tire wear

    I kindof see the driving missions as an extension of the license tests. They're challenges which you can't get an advantage in by bringing a more powerful car. You just have to learn the situation presented to you.
    That slipstream challenge with the GT-Rs made me thing that something was wrong, since it's unlike the other 3 in which all of the cars are nicely spaced for you to overtake one after the other. It's kindof satisfying to finally find the solution though.

      Furthermore, you are clearly not intelligent enough to recognise that I never once was interested in the reasons why his original videos were taken down. I was not interested in speculating; the reality is simply that they were taken down, and that's all I was remarking upon. No shit, they were taken down because of content ID. Obviously. There's absolutely nothing else that would've been responsible for their being taken down.
      So do us both a favour and stop. Your username and your writing is purely a display of utter pretentiousness, which impresses no one. Furthermore, your actual observations themselves are both erroneous (thinking I am interested in social capital gained online, through strangers that mean literally nothing to me, because I do not know them) and completely obvious (content ID taking down his video is what everyone already understood). Thus, not only is your comment completely insufferable, but it is also pointless. How you are so proud of such garbage is beyond my understanding.

    • @DARamosYT
      @DARamosYT Před 5 lety +39

      I can see that. But I'm guessing a lot of players are just gamers who want to play a racing game. While skills and race driving theory are things that can be improved upon by playing a game. People don't really go into it with that mindset. 24 hr races do necessitate B-spec mode, but it can come off as a tacked-on autopilot mode that plays the game for the player, making it feel like that endurance race wasn't really earned. And I don't recall using B-spec mode until much later after I had finished a few 30 lap races and was wondering how on earth or why would someone attempt the 24hr races unless for the novelty of it.

    Does it bother anyone else besides me that starting in GT4, they changed the behind-the-Car camera, to make it ‘stick’ to the car a lot tighter? In GT3, you could sort of fish tail the car around and the camera would stay put, but in GT4 and beyond, it stays tight and makes every car feel like it’s under steering all the time! I’ve hated it since 2005!

    The first Gran Turismo is my favorite. It’s what made me go buy a PlayStation. The best music of the series, the least overwhelming career mode, all the details about each car when you view them in the showroom. The license tests were just enough to get you ready for the late game content. Being able to see what the weight and horsepower of your opponents were. That classic FMV opening sequence. And the feeling the first time you won an endurance race on special stage R11 with a modded car that has no business on the track with Vipers, Supras and Skylines. Your first time driving on Trial Mountain, Deep Forest. Winning Grand Valley East on the Sunday Cup. Taking a stock NSX Type S Zero and mastering the NA class on Autumn Ring Mini. Getting your times lower and lower. Tuning the cars. Yeah I’m going off nostalgia, but that’s the game I love the most in the series. The one I played the most is probably GT2. All the others I played much less because of being an adult and having responsibilities.

  • @MrRocket2008
    @MrRocket2008 Před 5 lety +4

    GT4 I consider my favourite out of the GT series. I was so hyped for 5 and it was such a massive let down, and 6 although better, still has nothing on this game. I think I must have put 4x as many hhours into GT4 as 5&6 combined.
    Many people prefer 2 or 3, and I would like to experience them again now I'm older as I think I was too young to fully appreciate them when they came out. By the time I got GT4 I was 10 or 11 and just put so many hours into that game and pretty much done every event, except for the ridiculous endurance events. I was just at the start of that sweet spot in my life where I was old enough to really get into and appreciate games and also have plenty of free time to play them.
    My main gripe with this game and every GT since, the static chase cam. If you look at it and then compare it to GT3 (or any other racing game for that matter) the chase cam being locked makes tornering feel so janky, particularly on the rally events when you get the back end out. Maybe it's just me, but it really bothers me that PD have stuck with this cam ever since and I never see anyone else mention it.

    • @Haze4743
      @Haze4743 Před 2 lety

      Old comment I know, but the outside camera being locked on the back is actually what makes racing *fast* with that cam *possible*
      This is because in general automotorsport, outside of rallies and drifting, you stick to a straight line when drawing corners. A delay on the camera when turning only provokes imprecision.
      This is extremely evident when you race with the interior cam on simulators. When you initiate a turn you want to look at the direction the car is turning to follow the racing line, you dont look *at the opposite direction* , when you turn you dont care about whats happening in the direction where the track doesnt continue.
      So I would say the opposite. Gran Turismo is one of the very few franchises that still hold to the correct way to make an outside camera apt for competitive racing.

    Thought I'd add to what you said in 2:40
    In the previous games, you do earn a prize car (Although it's for clearing all the tests in that license with a Gold time)! While in GT4, you earn a prize car depending on your overall ranking (one for Bronze, Silver, and Gold) Which helps incentivize going for gold! Pretty nice to have 3 cars while keeping your starting 10,000 credits (Despite the tests being very tedious in 4)!

  • @stevemcrichards8768

    When I was younger all I wanted from this game was the ability to race at Le Mans and this game finally gave me that opportunity.
    When I first played this game and the opening credits ran and that Ford GT spec racecar came out of the pits you see the flag marshals -- ("is that Le Mans or maybe Tsukuba idk!?") -- and all those GT prototype racecars exited the pits I knew where it was immediately and every fiber of my being tingled and fizzed.
    That is why this GT4 is simply the best.

  • @WarpPal
    @WarpPal Před 3 lety +1

    Your problem with the the steering comes down to this, In Gran Turismo 3 the cars had more of a tendency to slide, also they pivot in relation to the chase camera. In GT4 these aren't true anymore, the camera sticks behind the car at all times and the car reacts more strongly to weight transfer which affects your ability to steer. Caught me off guard at first but I adjusted to it. Good review.
    Fun Fact. Gran Turismo 2 gave you camera options in the global options view settings that resemble the chase cam settings in both Gran Turismo 3 and 4.

    The 1080i mode isn't really better than 480i, as it is just upscaling, but the real problem is, the high resolution modes usually look uglier because of some weird purple noise/artifiacing that shows up in 480p and 1080i modes using most component cables on the market. Generally, it's better to use 480i most of the time. 480p may or may not look better on a modern display. The 480p and 1080i modes are probably most useful for recording footage

One of my most heart breaking games experiences occurred when playing this game. I was about 14 hours into the Nurburgring 24 hours when I felt I needed some sleep. So, since you can't save mid-race, I left it on overnight. Only for a blackout to occur :(

    Your sentiment toward the license tests kind of baffles me
    It’s my favorite part of these games and what I look forward to most when i pick up a new entry in the franchise because it’s the only part of the game that offers a legitimate challenge
    It’s also the only thing that forces you to actually learn how to drive different cars and appreciate each vehicle’s unique idiosyncrasies, especially if you’re playing in manual mode
    The sense of accomplishment of beating a trial you’ve been grinding by a couple thousandths of a second is incredible

    Even though the 3 was the best, 4 is the best for me. It is very special for me! My grandfather played all 1234 games, it was his favorite series of games and he would never play anything else except Granturismo. When I was a little boy, he was playing the new released Granturismo 4 with me and that game got me into cars! I've always watched him play even in endurance races I'm beside him asking whether he will make a pitstop and how many laps he gained on his oponents. Later on he thought me how to play the game and I always dominate Sunday cup with an op car it was so fun! But he never get to play 5, 6 or 7 because we cannot afford to buy ps3 or 4. I was so sad that those times cannot be experienced anymore. Money really is an issue in this world. But when I got older he gave me the Ps2 and I played and finished Gt4! And the original disc that he played unfortunately broke, so he bought me a new one but I kept the old one and I put it in my graduation photo when I was in kinder. The time when I always watch him play. When I think of the best game in the series I will always pick 4 because of great and happy memories with my grandfather. I hope I could afford to buy a ps4 to play Gt6 or maybe the sport.

    I couldn't get into GT3 or 4 too much, more so when comparing them to Forza 1. Both of them had that too serious vibe, and the ultra punishing timers on the bloody driving tests were crafted just to made hopping right into GT mode uninviting.

    I managed to gold all the GT4 license tests. Call me a masochist, but I HAVE to finish what I started over 10 yeats ago. The game is still playable for me to this day.

    for 24h events, it is recommended to remove disc from the system once the event has started to avoid wear and tear to your game disc and DVD drive
    the only thing that stops working is the background music, everything else is loaded into the RAM
    after you finish the race, you'll have to re-insert the disc (else you'll see the red spinner on the loading screen, but it should turn back into white if you insert the disc and your disc and drive are working properly)
