I dive into OSmaps when looking at a new area, they are so full of information but I also look at older maps if I can. The OS often pick names that literally change the landscape, an example is Booths Edge which is what millstone edge used to be called prior to OS renaming it. I missed a great resource off which is maps.nls.uk which shows side by side old and new maps. Great info on Millstone Edge!!! Glad you found it useful
