  • Bees have been disappearing on a massive scale since August 2007.
This disaster has hit the USA, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Poland, England and France particularly hard...
Losses can reach 80% of colonies.
The agri-food industry suddenly realized that bees, by pollinating flowers, are the guarantors of a good harvest: agriculture dependent on these formidable pollinators is worth 153 billion dollars worldwide.
    Suddenly, the world took fright.

Thanks for this Slice. Scary topic & terrible situation for the bees and humanity worldwide. We need to go back to agroecology, agriculture based on plant diversity and avoid monocultures and pesticides as much as possible, or we will be domed very, very soon.

People need to start caring about gardening and learning how to do it again because that also helps this problem. We all have to set the example or nothing will change.

In theory you can raise a heck of a lot more bees to compensate for that. It would cost money but it is probably worth doing, and don't harvest any more honey, let the bees keep them all to keep their colonies alive.

I’ll bet the Africanized bee which is much more robust could stand up to all of this.. the European honeybee has historically been a weak bee. Only problem is if you introduced the Africanized bee you got a super aggressive bee now that’s a threat to people and animals

I experienced that while this was happening. We had bought 2 1/2 acres of property and the first 2 years, the bees were not aggressive, so we tolerated them because they are such an important part of nature, but by the 3rd year, they were so aggressive they started biting for no reason. We put out water-traps for them. We eventually moved, but I can imagine the aggressive bees are still out there. If shortwave radios waves affect the bees, what are the electromagnetic solar flairs doing? We just had the largest solar event in recorded history.
