    I tried to include everything here in this one video to help you decide if the Hayward cleaner is right for you or if you already own a Pool Vac XL, Navigator Pro or Pool Vac Classic how to keep it running for years to come.
    The main drawback with this cleaner is that it is a parts hog. Out of all the cleaners I deal with, this one requires the most parts to be changed year in and year out. The good news is that the parts are easy to change and once done the cleaner should be zipping around the pool.
    You can also adjust the cleaners suction if you are the original purchaser with the dlow gauge that came in the box. But it is pretty easy to tell if it is moving too slow or too fast. After awhile as it is running in your pool you can adjust it visually. If it seems like it is running on the bottom -sprinting more or less it is going way to fast and vice versa if it is going to slow
    These are great for dusty or dirty climates like the desert or pretty much the entire state of Arizona ;). They clean well, usually don't get stuck in the pool and cover a large area in a short time. I have heard that the anti-vortex drains and some very sharp corners give this cleaner trouble. Those may be some drawbacks to consider.
    I included a look at the side port Vac Lock which is a must have as a safety device. Sometimes you will be running your heater and using the automatic cleaner before a pool party starts. With a Hayward Vac Lock installed, if some kids jump in and the cleaner is going and the hoses pop out, the vac lock will snap shut preventing any entrapment. The side port suction can be very powerful. I have every single cleaner on my route installed with either a Hayward Vac Lock or another competing brand. If the spring on the Vac Lock breaks off you should immediately replace it.
    I also show the most common problem with the cleaner, that of the A-frame wearing out. You can just replace the A-Frame but I find that it is better to also replace the Turbine since it also wears out . If you just replace the A-frame chances are the cleaner will still work slowly. Changing both assures a good result.
    Here is the video on changing the A-Frame & Turbine: • Hayward Navigator (Poo...

Our Hayward also says "for concrete pools" I was just going to replace the unit but am shocked at the cost. Will replacing the pods be fine for our new fiberglass ligned pool?

    One issue that defeats this vac is a Hayward drain grill. When my pool was recently refinished the original slightly domed open design cover was replaced with one of the Hayward designs that prevents suction accidents with hair getting sucked into the drain or a body getting stuck on an active drain. This cover is a solid barrier to the navigator, it gets stuck on it and stays there. What is required is some sort of circular ramp, but Ive never found one.

  • @SPL
    @SPL  Před 11 lety +1

    You can just lay the cleaner out long ways so the hoses don't coil. That is why they want you to pull each hose apart. But if you just lay it out along your pool deck when not in use (out of the Sun) that works well. That is what I do with my cleaner also.

  • @SPL
    @SPL  Před 10 lety

    Sounds like you have a suction leak or maybe a hose is clogged in the cleaner. When you unplug the cleaner does the pool start right up again? If so check the pump lid o-ring then look around the pump for any noticeable leaks. If it is a suction leak (air getting into the system) the pump won't be able to pull the water the extra 30 ft or so. It needs to be a completely closed system to work.

      Take it out of the pool with the pool pump off. Remove the 1st hose and then hose off the swivel really well. Sometimes small particles get stuck in their causing it not to swivel well. Also I suggest rotating the hoses around - move the ones on the bottom to closer to the wall/skimmer connection.

    • @SPL
      @SPL  Před 8 lety

      +zal411 When you take the cleaner out go to the equipment and also turn the side port valve off. What is happening is the line is still open and it is trying to pull water from a closed line - reducing the flow - and shutting off the salt cell. Simply turning the side port valve will solve the issue.

I disconnect my hose every time I finish cleaning with it snd store it flat, on a dedicated shelf inside my pool house. I took the PoolVac out last night, checked it for an obstruction. No obstruction snd no visible worn wings, feet, or flaps. After disconnecting the hose and storing it, I put it back in the pool to see if it was working ok…. I also checked skimmer pressure in the hose snd changed the back flap to position 1. The vacuum is still going to the left, in wider circles, but still circles. Could be something jammed in the swivel on top or may be one of the pods is not all the way tight. Remove the wing plug and see if that threaded nut is completely tight in the pods.

    Hi there, followed this guide and your a-frame guide and replaced the components, it’s been working okay but it seems like sometimes it tries to climb the wall a bit and then does a “wheelie” and ends up on it’s butt or side, would you have any recommendations?

      Try increasing the suction to the cleaner. See if that helps it.

      It could be the swivel on top is bad. There is another gear set in the top.

    Hello! I just purchased the pool vac XL and the first day it seemed as it was working perfectly... But after a week, I noticed the suction very low. I checked for any debris in the turbine, but all was clean. I then put my hand under the vac and did noticed suction to be somewhat low. How do I increase suction?

    • @SPL
      @SPL  Před 10 lety

      Hmm. How is the filter pressure and did you check the pump basket also? Have to ask. If that is fine then:
      Next to something in the turbine there could be debris in the hoses. Start at the last hose and unhook it, check for suction and if it is really good go one to the next hose until you get to the cleaner head. Sometimes stuff gets lodged in the hoses.
      If still nothing let me know.

    I have an AquaVac 500 robotic cleaner which has only been used 6 times. Can you tell me what causes it to flip over & stay in that position? On all of the troubleshooting tips, I don't see that problem mentioned. Thank you.

      @SPL  Před 9 lety

      Maureen Cole In my testing if the robot's cord does not reach the full length of the pool it will interfere with the program seek control. Is there enough cord in the pool so the AquaVac 500 can get full coverage? The one in my pool has yet to flip over but it is a small pool 16 ft x32 ft

    • @maureencole5982
      @maureencole5982 Před 9 lety

      Thanks for your quick reply! Yes, ours is a 16 x 32 as well...it was purchased new last Fall...haven't used it much at all until this season. It has plenty of cord...and we've cleaned it thoroughly. Thought maybe there was debris in the impeller or something affecting the performance. We have to keep an eye on it & go manually to turn over...it has worked perfectly the other few times we've used it.

    • @SPL
      @SPL  Před 9 lety

      Maureen Cole I know the model I have has been tweaked a little by Hayward to increase the rear thrust to prevent this. I wonder if the first units lack this power increase. How many times has it "turtled" on you? I would say if it happens again you can contact Hayward about it and Warranty it out so they can fix the issue. I have run my AquaVac 500 about a 10 times now in three different pools and it hasn't turned over as of yet.

    question: I have the vac xl, it was stuck where it just turned one direction, I searched the web and it said replace the gearbox, which I did, now it won't turn, it ends up at my stairs and sits there, did I not install the gearbox correctly, The RED plastic piece that attaches to the gearbox, fell off and I do not know if the orientation matters when I put it back on....or could it be something else I did not do right when I put it all back together

      fixed it, took it apart again and found 2 potential issues, the screen was potentially not seated properly and the bearings on the black spinner part, I didn't know they needed to sit in the groove to prevent them from turning, fixed both issues, now it turns exactly as it's intended, thanks!

    • @SPL
      @SPL  Před 10 lety

      You will have to turn off the main drain. If yours is old like this one there should be a valve by the equipment -hopefully. It is the suction from the main drain that it causing the Navigator to get stuck.

      This is common in a two hole skimmer. If your skimmer has one hole I can also instruct you how to turn off the main drain at the skimmer.
