Absolutely wonderful! I followed the first F1 GP watching Monaco GP of 1972 season, when Emmo took the leadership which he kepts to bring to our country the first F1 Championship title, opening the doors for other remarkable Brazilian pilots, champions! His contact with this wonderful, revolutionary machine was a really moving experience, not found in pasteurized, monotonic PR controlled relations of F1 drivers nowadays. We now have him and Sir Jackie Stewart as two "root" champions of F1!

I lived in England in the Mid '70s, as a kid. I had a huge laminated JPS Formula 1 Poster on my wall I received as a birthday gift. My father took me to a British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, I think it was 1976. It was a very memorable experience. I witnessed a F1 car fly off the track heading directly toward me. I was behind the second of two tall chain link fences near one of the corners. During the race I got a JPS T-Shirt, and inflatable Goodyear Tyres Blimp. The John Player Special Race Vehicles in my opinion were absolutely awesome. The the Gold Trim and Gloss Black Paint Scheme, was stylized from their cigarette's flip-top box packaging. My father fabricated for me a "Mini-Formula 1" style go-cart with a motorcycle engine, however after it was finished he realized how insanely fast it was and I really didn't get to drive it..

Sempre será meu carro do sonho.

Thank you, what a special moment to see car and driver together. I love Lotus, I've got this strange affinity with them. I was born in Jan 1970, I'm pretty much ages with the 72. In 1971, when I was 18 months old, I was in an horrific car accident, I was an 18 month old passenger in a Lotus Elan +2 on the motorway heading to London and we were hit by a truck, the car broke apart and I wasn't in a child seat or even strapped in, so I was flung down the road and was in a bad way, but I survived, you're made of rubber at that age. Since then I've had a fascination with cars and I love Lotus. Colin Chapman was a genius, he could find ways to circumvent the laws of physics. I loved Jim Clark, he was an all time legend in the sport, I loved Jochen and find his story so sad. 1970 must have been tough, to have Rindt as posthumous champion. In fact this was a dangerous time for all drivers. It took real courage to drive back then. The 72 is such a beautiful car, the black and gold is so distinctive and it set so many standards, the blueprint hasn'tchanged much really. And what a treat to see Fittipaldi with it and talk about it and drive it, a proper gentleman in and out the car, what a video, thank you so much.

Emerson, what a lovely guy! Who else could be more suitable to drive such a beautiful car as the 72, and to drive it to a world championship? The drivers in those days were such remarkable personalities, not like the sterile robots of today (Jenson excepted of course who would have completely fitted in to the 70's era - so glad he was chosen by Lotus to be an ambassador for the new car!). Takes me back to '72 when I was a ten year old totally obsessed with the Lotus 72, love at first sight in fact, and ever since! Amazing to see all the remaining 72's driving around the track in the same time and place....especially with one of them in Ronnie's colours.

For me, from the side view, this is one of the most beautiful F1 cars to date! In 1980 I left Hungary for the Austrian Grand Prix with a classmate. Elio de Angelis, who later died young, finished 6th with one of the Essex Lotuses. The other two Lotuses were eliminated with engine failure. One was driven by Mario Andretti, the other by Nigel Mansell, whose first F1 race in his life. I keep the program booklet, which deals with the Lotus Team with colorful pictures on several pages ! Emerson Fittipaldi's new car was unfortunately uncompetitive. I'm glad to see you again with this beautiful new car ! I wish him good health and the team a lot of success !

    Most enjoyable.
A personal family story, one in which I cannot verify, as both my parents are long deceased (mum 1978, dad 1981).
Not long after mum passed, I was watching some motor racing with dad, and something about Lotus, or about Colin Chapman, came up, and dad mentioned, quite casually, that Colin and mum were friends. Not, that he and mum were friends of Colin, just that Colin, and my mother Audrey, were friends.
As I said, there's no way to verify any of this, however, it is at least possible.
The family lived in Norfolk between 1967 and late 1971.
Regarding how, my mum might have met Colin, my only guess there, was that Audrey was one of two telephonists, working for the RAC in Norwich. So, if Colin ever had any dealings with anyone at the RAC in Norwich, there is a very good chance they spoke together on the phone.
Anyway, I like to think this story is true, it's just not the kind of thing my dad, who coincidentally is also named Colin, would have made up . . .

Then, that post quickly changed hands in 2008 to Hamilton, and again in 2010 with Vettel. Since Verstappen did not reap that specific record, it is very likely Vettel will retain it for some time to come.

The insane thing is that JB drove the Lotus 72 carefully but Emmo gave that thing some beans. You could hear the old Ford engine scream a little.

as motorsports fans they should’ve made a combustion engine version of this car for no other reason than the original didn’t have any electric or hybrid capabilities
