  • On December 8th 1980, a little after 1pm. John arrives home at the Dakota building from a photo shoot with The Rolling Stone to record an interview with Dave Sholin for RKO. A little after 5pm John and Yoko leave the Dakota and head toward the subway, where a young man offers John a copy of double fantasy to sign.

I am so used to listening to John interviews from way back in the 60s and 70s. It's fun to hear John talking about modern 80s things like Dairy Queen, Hagen Daas and McDonald's!

Why didn't yoko Ono stay with John while he signed the killers album mark Chapman said he murdered John because John said the Beatles were more popular than Jesus but anyone with common sense wouldn't take it that way. Maybe the klan brainwashed Chapman or the government who knows only God knows and the people involved in the conspiracy no no no

Talk about delivering his own eulogy!!!!
Praise God these people encourage this in depth conversation , with very few, but intelligent interruptions.
So sad, absolutely heartbreaking really, to realise his end is around the corner after hearing his passion and enthusiasm for his life and for his future.
Praise God he was able to acknowledge his first marriage respectfully and his regrets with not seeing much of Julian, and wanting to put it right.
PLUS it was so lovely to hear him speak of the importance of Paul in his life.
I hope Julian and Paul have heard this.
    What could have been????

It's just wrong. When he said that life begins in your 40's and told he was happier than ever. It just seems like he lived life in a way he truly wanted to. Freelance musicians dailylife as a head of a family. Then he had also re-established his friendship with Paul and told that "The best things are yet to come." "I'm only 40 and Paul is only 38 when this is taped" in one of his very latest interviews.

And still nothing but nothing will ever get me,myself,or the world get past the loss of our beloved John. I still every day can not get past the tragedy of losing him. Nothing on this earth could even replace him and the oh so sudden loss. The sound of his absence is defeaning

On December 8th 1980 John Lennon was a happy man after the release of his new album after a 5 year silence from the music world and had plans for the future and was so full of life!, but just hours after that interview he was tragically & senselessly murdered!, we all remember where we were & what we did that day?, I hope & pray that John Lennon has found peace☮️ although sadly not quite the way he had planned?, Rest in peace great musician.☮️🎶🎸🎵

What is a very eerie is when John Lennon said that he didn’t consider his work and his music and lights work in Centennial he was dead and buried it helped that was in a long time and I don’t think he realized that and a few hours time he would be dead. I think this is one of his great interviews from what I’ve listened to clips of“ of I think he seemed very happy he wasn’t as angry as he was in 1971 during the Rolling Stone interview.

It always amuses me that interviewers around this time make a big thing of John being this incredible 'hands-on' modern father, then when he explains it, it's basically his kid and the nanny doing everything together and he pops in now and again to say hi and watch him be cooked for. I guess that shows how little the majority of fathers usually spent with their kids in those days for that to be exceptional behaviour.

I read the assistants book about working with them until this last day. They really were as phony as Chapman saw them to be. Lennon should have been with his family in England. Karma may not always be instant but it never loses an address.

      @asobstoryforeverysong9853 Před rokem +3

Yeah, the guy was full of shit. I mean he abandoned his first kid completely so I guess he improved somewhat. But Lennon was a bullshitter anyway. He wrote about no possessions yada yada and Yoko had AN ENTIRE ROOM for her mink coats. They were incredibly materialistic. All the hippie stuff was just a phase. I love Lennon's music (not the shit before he died) but the more you learn from the man the more you see he was not a nice guy - his death resulted in him being treated like a saint. He was anything but.

@@asobstoryforeverysong9853 Lennon never claimed to be a saint. He was fallible, at times nasty, and often a messed up person. But he was a genius. People tend to remember somebody who was murdered at a young age, who was one-half of the most successful songwriting teams of the 20th century and the man who founded the largest selling rock group in history. Speaking of saints, Mother Teresa was a real piece of work.

John was a very flawed individual who happened to bring an immeasurable wealth of joy to the world. The lunatic who took his life should have been immediately and publicly executed, not just for taking John’s life but also for robbing the world of what could have been. I know John wouldn’t have approved, but the sheer weight of what was lost demanded capital justice.

Throughout his life Lennon had demonstrated and shown a mentality of that of a teenager. Never matured, never managed to grow up and was eternally craving for love and attention. Both he and McCartney came together for that one brief moment in time in which they blossomed and produced. Without McCartney this may not have happened. It was McCartney who drew out the nascent art Lennon who always thought he knew the answer to everything and would seldom, if ever, listen to others. He would listen to McCartney though. ONO was incidental to the downfall of the group. It was Lennon's egoism and destructiveness that brought that about. Look at the way he destroyed the lives of his family. Had a wife and son who adored him. Lennon showed no remorse, no attempt at remediation and no love, only violence. It was Lennon who said "All you need is love" and yet when the moment came, he couldn't handle it.
He remained throughout his short life with an enormous chip on his shoulder that he was unable to shrug off. His band mates grew up and matured over time. Not so Lennon. His interviews, as here for example only serve to show a man in desperate need of love and attention. Listen to around 29:00 where they both assume they knew everything and the rest of the world was wrong and unjust. They then begin to lose themselves in words. Unable to see that the world owed them nothing
