This is precious, John was still alive and Paul seems very grounded and relaxed.

Ram was panned. Now it’s widely considered to be the first Indy rock album. Greatness.

This is by far the best Paul interview I’ve heard. He’s so relaxed and open here. Thank you

It's nice to hear one of the last interviews with Paul before John died - thanks for the upload

    Hi I'm Mario.
Back in the day 1980's I had a copy of this interview and now I've obtained another copy of it but on CD. Paul did a great interview.

Very interesting period for Paul. Had John not died, I wonder how where his career would go?

This has to be one of the best mid musical career interviews with Paul ever, and he's also the best interviewee ever, which helps. Paul is an archive of pop history, especialy Beatles history, of course.

I had that vinyl -LP in the 80's. I bought it from a tiny record shop, and being only 13-yrs-old, I didn't even recognize it's not a song collection. I may have sub-conciesly thought it's a good collectable.

Whoa! I assumed this was an 80’s or 90’s interview and didn’t pay too close attention to the title so, as I was listening to this I got a freaky feeling when I heard Paul say “…now, John is…”, and I suddenly realized that John was still alive at the time. But, he only had 6 months and 28 days to live. What a horrible reality. We lost so much that day, but Paul lost a huge part of his soul. What great guys.

Paul's speaking voice had a distinct difference in 70'/80's. Maybe it's his demeanor, but he sounded 'gentler' than other periods.

I love the fact Paul's Liverpool accent was still pretty thick at this time. Especially when he says like "there" ther, "Hair" Her, "where" wher. George use to pronounce words like that as well.

I was lucky enough to pick up a pre-owned numbered copy super deluxe of the White Album for around £40 like new, it's now hard to get and are going for around £200+. Paul mentioned Chris Montez he was the geezer who sang 'Let's Dance' a big smash hit in 1962 [?].

I agree... I've found a few interviews in which he appeared more relaxed and was great... I don't know why, through the years he seems to has become a sort of someone who has to show a sort of infallibility, someone who has to show everything is perfect all the time, even in the less important things of life...

Remember seeing this as an album in the early 80s..now it's available for everyone!
He had an odd taking voice at the time, not his Beatles voice or his 80s voice, maybe the chain smoking of the 70s?

  • @mrsbluesky8415

John probably got an advance copy of McCartney II and listened a couple times. He was after all a Beatle w a keen interest in their works, esp Paul.

It's strange to hear Paul speak so highly of George here ''one of the greatest guitar players who ever existed''. All we heard from Georges end was that Paul always looked down on him and never respected him as a musician. I thought when I heard Paul say that that this interview must have been after George died, but nope, it was in 1980! 6-7 months before Lennon was fatally assasinated

    • @Twotontessie

They loved each other so much. I love it when I can hear one of them when the other is talking in these 70s interviews. George’s phrasing will kind of appear in Paul’s speech and vice versa. Brothers.

If it's 1980, then it's a Billy Shepherd interview. Or as he likes to call himself, Billy Shears. It's in his memoirs.
