My great uncle fought at Verdun. He was a private in a Zouave regiment, was made a corporal for successfully leading his company to assault the enemy trench after their officer was killed. This was at Fort Douaumont. Later in the war he was made a sergent and awarded the Military Medal for successfully making the liaison for his regiment during an attack on German trenches near Vaux (if you have been at Douaumont and Vaux, it is hard to imagine what it must have been to run from one fort to the other during the war). He was wounded on his arm during the operation but made it back to the front soon after. In November 1917 Sergent Julien Roy was killed leading his men for an assault on Hill 304 in Samogneux, not far from Verdun. He was 23 years old. As a civilian he was a clerk, he left his parents, 2 brothers (one would be killed during WW2) and 3 sisters. He rests in Samogneux, a couple of graveyards away from a young soldier whom, 10 years later, would have been his brother-in-law. His portrait is still in my room to this day ...

Just imagine how this poor German Flammenwerfer guy felt when out of nowhere there was a french guy charging at him from behind.
Imagine he was just replenishing his Flammenwerfer behind his German troops who already cleared out the fort and now were capturing the flag. Then, unexpectedly, there was one French soldier charging behind him from inside the fort and stabbed the bayonet into his armored chest...
Imagine his fear that pop up into his relieved mind after the fort was captured, when that one French soldier charged him with a bayonet...
Even all his(French soldier) friends were all dead and he was the only one left in the fort, he still looking for vengeance for his fallen brothers instead of running away...
And in that chances, Ein deutscher Flammenwerfer was standing there unguarded and was just refilling his flammenwerfer at the entrance of the fort...

I just came back from Fort Vaux and, well, I can see a huge difference. The Fort de Vaux map does not look the same than the actual Fort. Apparently, both Fort de Vaux and Douaumont was the most heavily bombarded areas in the war. The Fort now has hills laying on the sides of the fort, rusted barbed wire that are still visible to this day and a lot more of differences.

My great grandfather fought in the Italian army as an Alpine, he came into the war in 1916, when he turned 18. In 1917 at Caporetto he was wounded in the head with a mortar shell and he passed out, falling in the mud under the rain. When he woke up he was in an Austr-Ungarian field camp and he was a prisoner until the end of the war, then he was released. He did many things during ww2 and he succeeded in surviving to both

I've been in Vaux. It's far more claustrophobic than the game shows. When you walk the hallways and corridors you only can think" I want to get out!" And that's without anyone shooting at me... Places to visit in Verdun: the Verdun fortress in the city is a museum. The fort Vaux , the fort of Douaumont and the Douaumont Ossuary. The museum at Fleury. And much, much more. Nowadays you are allowed to walk the forests and find all the trenches were they were left back then.... But beware of unexploded ordnance, literally everywhere you look, you'll find unexploded stuff. In the sixties it was forbidden to go into the forests and signs " Danger de Mort" (lethal danger) hung everywhere. The signs are gone but the explosives not...

In war there is no good guy or bad guy Germany was fighting for their reasons much Like France Britain Russia etc so WW1 was not Germany's fault Mainly Austria but Germany took the blame I'm sorry for my great grandfather who served in the army as he fought for the fatherland much love and respect 🇺🇸🇩🇪
You are right. No offense Austrians, but you started the war. The British forced the Germans to take full blame for WW1.
In ww2 the bad guys were the axis cause they were fucking fascists
Wars are written by the victors, old men starting wars sending young men to die in them
@@lumineslittlepogchamp1645 Germany pressured Austria into sending the ultimatum to Serbia, because Germany wanted a war with Russia. The reason they wanted to war them was because Russia was industrializing extremely quickly at this point, and by 1916 Russia would probably be able to stomp Germany in a war, so Germany had to subdue Russia to protect their Eastern border. No one expected for the upcoming war to be this destructive, so there was no real bad guy who started the war, but Germanys allies virtually collapsed, and Germany was the last central powers member that was somewhat intact, so they had to take most of the blame.
@@chev3569 actually that’s not true Austria had sent Serbia an ultimatum that ultimatum had 95 stipulations Serbia complied to all except one and that one was that Austria was to be in charge of Serbia’s political situations Germany was there to back Austria in case shit went south with Russia and guess what it did so anything this is all Austria’s fault Serbia’s to if u wanna go further
Wow that was fantastic. You really captured a war like feel with this. Might I offer two points of constructive criticism though?
The age of these soldiers when you show their deaths. I'm seeing late 20's and mid 30's by the math I'm doing. Keep in mind the young were the ones that really fought all this, so people like 18-25 made up a massive amount of people. Of course older ones did too, but the real tragic feeling of playing that first camping mission is just seeing how young they really were when you died.
The 2nd criticism would be how fast you advance the text. I feel at some parts (like updating when pushing into the fort and the ending bit) the text advanced too quick, and that it would be more powerful if you let it linger for a few seconds longer as the somber music sits in.
Just my two cents. Aside from that, I heavily enjoyed it, and I hope you keep making more of these. You've got a subscriber.
Don't worry, there are a couple of improvements thats been required making these types of video. And thanks for your feedback!

My Grandfather was Giuseppe Caglieresi, an Italian worker who had to fight for the country.
My father told me some of his stories and one is like "we were 250 or so before the assault, after failing it we came back to our lines in 26."
Lately for what I've been able to find he was wounded in the Bainsizza Plain, Second Isonzo Battle in 1916. He was in the trench or in a hole in the no man's land, a shell hit the soldiers next to him where there were some of his friend, he found two of them wounded but alive, he carried them back to the main Italian line through the crossfire between Austrians and Italians.
Was wounded and awarded with the Croce al Merito di Guerra (Cross for Valor in War). Lately some high rank officer put him in office instead of reassign him back to his regiment.
Afer the war he opened a gun shop in my town, one of the best at the time. He loved life, women and hunting. Always in a good manner. I know that he talked a bit about war but wasn't able too much, for the tears and pain of what he have seen.
We, as European have the responsibility to not making it happen again.

I went inside Fort Douaumont and honestly with the damp walls, the cold atmosphere and the complete darkness I really don't know how the French could keep fighting in these conditions. Then I went to Samogneux, just imagine the loss of people's home, thousands of people lost everything, husband, brothers and their home. I remember one time I was playing this map and while I was walking down a hallway, 6-7 German soldiers came rounding the corner and shot me to hell. The way some of them kneel-slided around the corner made this so memorable.
At one point I only played BF1 with no hud.
