- Its time for a new Tutorial, I really like high density foam for my armor parts because it is lightweight, cheap and flexible. This was the perfect material for my knee armor parts of my new Yennefer of Vengerberg Cosplay from The Witcher 3.

You can mix the black paint with your sealer(wood glue, or mod podge) and this will combine the two steps while also making it easier to see what you've already sealed.
the heating method is a really good idea for super detailed armor! tysm for the helpful video!

and use sanding paper to smooth out the edges for substitute of the dremel ?

Would you recommend using this technique for twilight princess Zelda’s shoulder armor or would it look better to make it out of worbla?
I think you can use both materials, foam is really lightweight and also flexible so its easy to wear and move in that costume. On the other hand: Worbla is really stable/ sturdy ans easy to paint. I also saw some cosplayers who did that costume with real leather which is extremely beautiful but probably the most difficult method :D

Lovely work! I tried printing out the template and noticed the design to be sort of small, may I ask what the printer settings need to be to get a 1:1 ratio?
Hi Vanessa, thank you for your feedback. Because I am from Germany we use the DIN Scales, so the printing size is DIN A4 297x21mm... just make sure that your printer doesn't scale it to your paper otherwise it is probably not :1 :D
Such an easy technique but still produces elegant and beautiful patterns. From one Foamsmith to another I say job well done. These pieces look amazing and that wax looks like it really does help out a lot when covering surfaces. Where can I buy that painting wax from? I've never really seen it except on videos from other artists.
I found it on amazon and some german cosplay and craft stores already, maybe you can also get it at ebay?

Super tutorial! Bei mir hat es sogar bei 2mm dickem Moosgummi funktioniert! Allerdings habe ich eine Frage zu den Spitzenstrümpfen, wo hast du die denn her wenn ich fragen darf :)
Super das freut mich. Die Strümpfe habe ich auf amazon gekauft. Diese sind allerdings ohne Silikonstreifen, sprich sie rutschen etwas.

Can this also work with two pieces of 2mm foam glued ontop of eachother?
I guess both layers might get separated while you are heating up the surface. Maybe try to cut one layer really carefully and not to deep, use your heat gun and glue a second base sheet underneath. Never tried it before but its worth a quick test 🙌

ich bin gerade am "detail-verfluchen" und hab nach Tutorials gesucht und bin dabei auf dich gestoßen - vll kannst du mir helfen.
Derzeit baue ich mein allererstes Cosplay und zwar "Artorias" aus Dark Souls. Allerdings bekomme ihc die Details leider nicht übertragen, da der Helm in X-Achsen gekrümmt ist. Hast du dafür einen Tipp wie ich das hinbekommen könnte?
Ich bekomme vor allem die "Verhältnisse" nicht hin - also wie groß das auf dem Helm Ingame ist und dann auf dem EVA Helm sein müsste :/
hmm, also ich erstelle meine blueprints immer digital daher kann ich hinterher ganz locker verschiedene größen drucken und ausprobieren, wenn du dein muster per hand erstellt hast leg es doch ein paar mal auf den kopierer mit verschiedenen maßstäben und suche erstmal die bestmögliche skalierung. dann würde ich die vorlage in mehrere teile separieren und fixieren.
Wie hast du das Lederzeug um die Knieplatten gemacht?
Schnittmuster, dann aus kunstleder genäht, innenfutter eingenäht, plastikstäbe eingesetzt und schnürung an der rückseite eingestanzt. war ziemlich fummelig uns eins der ätzendsten schnittmuster die ich je gemacht habe.
musstest du das gilding wax am Ende nicht fixieren? Es scheint abzureiben, benutze es gerade auch, aber weiß echt nicht mit was ich es fixieren soll :O
bei mir hat es kein bischen abgefärbt, es gibt aber speziell von pebeo auch fixierspray soweit ich weiß :D
Also bei mir hat das null funktioniert. Sobald ich die heißluft Pistole drangehalten hab waren sämtliche Einschnitte weg.
Hi Mitchy... ich gehe davon aus das du ein anderes Material verwendet hast als ich. Es gibt nämlich auch "selbstheilenden" Foam, bei diesem dehnen sich die einschnitte bei einwirkung von hitze aus, sprich der Schnitt zieht sich zusammen und wird nicht wie bei mir größer. Ich benutze den Schaumstoff von cosplayshop.be der auch in der infobox verlinkt ist. Ich weiß nicht wie es bei anderen herstellern ist, craftperium hat meine ich beide arten im angebot, da müsste man aber mal nachschauen oder evtl nachfragen. Hoffe damit konnte ich dir helfen! :D
Ich verwende denselben foam wie du deswegen war ich so verwundert dass es bei mir nicht geklappt hat...Ich hab es nochmals versucht und bei tieferen einschnitten geht es zwar,aber dann reißt das Papier und ich kann das pattern nicht mehr nutzen. Ich benutze auch einen Mini cutter ..es ärgert mich weil ich meine knieschoner auch neu und genauer machen wollte...
Hmm okay das ist merkwürdig. Also ich habe auch relativ tief geschnitten, ca. 2mm und immer mit einer sehr scharfen klinge. ich hab bei der vorlage immer drauf geachtet die muster so zu schneiden das ich auch alles nachgeschnitten habe bevor das ganze zu kleinteilig wurde und nicht mehr genügend halt hatte, also immer aus der mitte heraus.
Du hörst dich deutsch an.. ^^ ich möchte meinem Söhnchen ein Roboter Kostüm mit Hilfe von EVA und einem morphsuit bauen, hast du Tipps für mich?
Hi Kay, sry für die späte Antwort! Und ja ich komme aus Deutschland! Den morphsuit würde ich fertig kaufen, das nähen von lycra ist nicht gerade einfach... das gibt es bei zahlreichen Seiten wie zentai-zentai, itsherostime, zentaizone etc. Aus HD Schaumstoff lässt sich so ein Kostüm super anfertigen, bitte beachte nur das das zeug sehr gut dämmt und entsprechend warm wird, wenn man z.B. eine Ganzkörperrüstung daraus baut. Befestigung würde ich mit Magneten oder eben Klettband machen :D

What did I do wrong. When I heated up the foam my patterned started disappearing and joining together 😢 thought I was doing same as tutorial
Uhh okay, what type of foam did you use? Maybe too hot or the material is not heat resistant?
@@JakCosplay it was 5mm grey foam not sure on make, i used it on the lower blow setting but looks like it has blurred the lines, but its ok on this occasion once painted i can get away with it 🙃🙃 i wonder if i had a nozzle on and concentrated the heat too much, can't remember now
@@estellelong3815 hmm yeah maybe, I always try to keep a good distance so the heat is not concentrated on one single point
