Funny thing is Unreal HAS built in options to change the volume and pitch of an audio file. So theres no need to go to a different program to make these minor adjustments.
I don't know if the huntress sound can be resolved by just increasing volume. Sometimes what makes sounds easier to pick up is their pitch attenuation, not raw dB value. Huntress' own voice, especially when inhaling, is much higher, which is what makes it a "survivor alert". When this happened for Hanzo's ultimate in Overwatch, they ended up having to re-record the line so that it would sound like he's shouting, not whispering; same thing there, I don't think they could just increase volume.

You see Scott, this is behavior we're talking about. Changing the volume of certain tracks would probably re-introduce infinites to Ironworks and Haddonfield, and replace the loading screens with r/dbdgonegay posts due to spaghetti coding
i'm sure it is easy for them to adjust the volume of audio in the game, the problem is that loudness is actually completely subjective, while also changing wildly based on your setup. hearing is completely wack the more you know about it. the list of things that will influence the perceived loudness, especially in a game like this is very long. sure, we can probably agree that x is loud and y is quiet (given they are different enough), but when asking if two different sounds are the same volume, probably not. even on the same audio setup it isn't likely. ideally they follow the trend of other games (and what they themselves did for the terror radius and lullaby on survivor) and add accessibility options that allow you to visually identify and/or locate sound (fortnite is an example of a good system, you get a vague direction and what type of sound i.e. an icon that shows if the sounds footsteps, shooting, loot, explosions, etc.). even people who aren't hearing impaired can turn the setting on if they want and then all survivors are equally detectable when making noise and all killer players get the same information. it will be healthy for the game as there will no longer be an advantage to playing quiet survivors. i personally can't hear shit in my right ear and can't locate a sound's direction easily. several times in different videos (this channel/otz/hans) when people talk about finding a survivor because they heard them, i've tried to go back and pick out the sound and i can't
They don't even need to bring it into Audacity. DbD is an Unreal Engine game. In the Sound Que that they're using to make sounds happen there is both a volume and a pitch slider that can be adjusted right on the base sound. It should take seconds to adjust, minutes to test and see if it sounds correct.
Another funny thing is that they've also just proven that when push comes to shove they absolutely CAN force a hotfix to PC without waiting for console approval, something they've refused to do since we got crossplay. It just took potential epileptic seizures for it to happen.
The best thing they can do imo is swap out her current sound for the default lullaby so they remain consistent and fix a major issue. Or just fix all the audio in the game but im talking realistically here
I've recently watched some old DBD vids and i've noticed that a lot of audio effects were removed or were made less. AN example of this is the reverb, the reverb out doors has been removed in current day and the reverb indoors were made way less that how is was back then. I've also noticed that the buzzing sound of certain light bulbs were also removed for some reason? I just don't get this.
The "quick fix" behavior could do besides adjusting the volume, is just the audio for survivors is from the base huntress, while for the killer the voice is custom.
if the remove the advantages for the new skin its actually now Pay 2 lose (not just a cool skin) it makes the killer way taller by a lot with huge antlers that stick out means cant mind game at some wall loops anymore. 1:25
The big problem with equalizing survivor volume (and fixing these voice lines) is that it can't reliably be solved with volume - some sounds, at the same volume or even independently of volume, are more or less audible than others, for many reasons (pitch, register, rhythm, timbre, and the amount of sounds with similar pitch/register/etc. in the environment) It's a design-level audio issue, and it's tricky - you see this solved in L4D with all the special infected having very unique audio cues, spawn music, etc. - but L4D didn't need to worry about adding new survivors and new sources for sound effects as often as DBD. When you add a lot of different voices, they have a lot of different properties, and trying to make the audibility match up... without rerecording lines with a whole different tone in mind... can be really hard. It's unfortunate that they made this mistake with the new Huntress skin, and I reaaaally hope they learn that it can't be a post-patch consideration - it needs to be a design-time constraint.
I'm still asking for an option to turn off scream audio... I had a headset for a month, constantly playing DBD, and the screams blew out one of the speakers... Not only that but it's extremely jarring; having to crank your volume down before hooking someone is annoying.
I'm a game developer with experience in UE4, UE5, and Unity. "Equalizing" the volume of the different survivors should take like one day lol. You're correct.
There is SOME nuance to audio equalizing as the actual decibel level and "perceived" volume are different depending on pitch n stuff. There's also goofy stuff with audio falloff range, but this should be standardized already. Though yeah, it should still be a 1-2 day job, not YEARS like they've taken.
Hey i have an idea. Just make a visual queue like with territorial imperative so people get a subtle but useful warning. That way we have deaf accessibility and get to have differing volume for skins. Plus the terror radius visual indicator really helped me and i have hearing so its a benefit anyway.
Tbf as someone who records and mixes vocals for songs it’s not as easy as just turning up the volume under certain circumstances, different voices interact with different mic’s differently, some voices are louder then others, and there is a point when u record where if the vocal was recorded at say -6 decibels and u turn it up without a limiter on the vocals it can end up sounding distorted, depending on the recording, sometimes even with a limiter it can, or sometimes if they vocal was recorded to quietly u can turn it up all the way and it’ll still be quiet, I have no idea how BHVR does everything I’m just saying i can see scenarios where it’s not as easy as just turning it up, like if they upgraded their recording equipment at any point or something, like I said I’m not saying that’s definitely what’s happening I’m just sayin that could happen, considering how they built their netcode i doubt the early survivors were recorded the same way as the new ones, if so this might require rerecording vocals and stuff which Matt said they can’t do, so idk for sure obviously but I’m just playing devil’s advocate
am i the only one who realizes this is the extremely common tactic of "make new thing OP to drive sales, then nerf it a month later" DBD has done it before, TONS of other games still do it. it's basically the new loot box in the scam arsenal of devs
Not to mention that if they fix it after a month or two, then they "intentionally left it there so people would buy the skin and then nerfed it to scam people." It'll be Ash all over again.
I think people forget that dbd is literally pay to win by default. Many strong killers are licensed and can only be unlocked with money, likewise with their perks if you don’t want to wait years for the shrine of secrets.
The most egregious P2W is Decisive Strike, mostly because it's the only good anti tunnel in the game right now. However in terms of perks there is very little P2W you just have to be willing to grind to unlock Plague, Artist and maybe Clown, cause that's Corrupt Intervention, Grim Embrace, Pain Res and then POP or NOED, spending zero dollars if you grind the shards. If anything survivor has more, strong perks locked behind a money paywall given Wiretap, Reassurance, Buckle Up, etc. DBD still has egregious P2W given that a number greater than 0 is too much, but it really doesn't exist for killer.
@@2gen918they're not. Corrupt, Dead Man's Switch, Grim Embrace, Pain Res, Pop, Agitation, Gear Head, that new Unknown perk that removes your terror radius, etc. So many amazing perks for Nurse without even spending any money directly. You CAN spend money for say the Xeno perk or Lethal but you really don't have too given that stacking more and more gen slowdown is better than anything else in the current meta.
I don't even get how this happens. Like sure, early BHVR I could excuse this, but even in just OBS I can set my mic to raise how loud my voice is if I'm too quiet, or to lower the noise if I'm too loud. This shouldn't be a problem
I gotta be honest I don't think it's as simple as just lowering the volume of some survivors. Some pitches and sounds are just going to stand out more, on their own or against killer chase themes. I know that's not the point, but I think it's good to note that you may have to re-record these things for them to be normalized. I think even if you make bill half the volume he's still going to be easier to parse than others. In this case with huntress I totally agree tho, the raised hatchet grunt she makes should be much louder
Yeah I faced a huntress last night with this skin and I have over 3300+ hrs in the game I’m pretty good not the best player out there but I had a jump scare with her she was all of sudden in the same T L wall and I didn’t notice her singing and she got hits on me cause I didn’t hear her hatchet as well I was like oh so quite
i always said ada also is a pay to win survivor because she is so quite especially with iron well the amount of times the killers lost me while playing as ada is insane compared to any other survivor
Hot take: I think survivors having different volumes adds personality to the game. Some survivors are easier to see because they are bigger or wear brighter colors, some make more noise. If it's that big of a deal to someone they can just play someone quiet.
Hey scott. I know it was on the anniversary roadmap a few years ago. However, at some point a dev said on a reddit AMA that it was no longer a priority at that moment.

video comparing the db level of survivors would be awesome ( and good evidence) to see/hear.
They pitched up Survivor voices for Little Oni, I wonder if that took a long time or if it was just a quick slider adjustment?
I've recently watched some old DBD vids and i've noticed that a lot of audio effects were removed or were made less.
AN example of this is the reverb, the reverb out doors has been removed in current day and the reverb indoors were made way less that how is was back then.
I've also noticed that the buzzing sound of certain light bulbs were also removed for some reason? I just don't get this.
The "quick fix" behavior could do besides adjusting the volume, is just the audio for survivors is from the base huntress, while for the killer the voice is custom.
Yeah first game i went against it, i noticed i barely heard thw hatch pull up animation
if the remove the advantages for the new skin its actually now Pay 2 lose (not just a cool skin) it makes the killer way taller by a lot with huge antlers that stick out means cant mind game at some wall loops anymore. 1:25
Behavior needs the hyperbolic time chamber at this point
The big problem with equalizing survivor volume (and fixing these voice lines) is that it can't reliably be solved with volume - some sounds, at the same volume or even independently of volume, are more or less audible than others, for many reasons (pitch, register, rhythm, timbre, and the amount of sounds with similar pitch/register/etc. in the environment)
It's a design-level audio issue, and it's tricky - you see this solved in L4D with all the special infected having very unique audio cues, spawn music, etc.
I always alt-tab out before hooks because of that.
It would also mean they could make the hook scream normal volume
at this point I'm ready to ask BHVR to just send me the survivor audio files and I'll adjust them myself like
actually they can just completely change her wind up sound and make a totally different new one from 0 that's louder
I also think the Ghostface’s survivalist skin doesn’t have as much flapping sound as he moves around
I played against her earlier this morning and I couldn’t even tell she was right next to me when she came around the corner to my Gen lmao.
Hey i have an idea. Just make a visual queue like with territorial imperative so people get a subtle but useful warning. That way we have deaf accessibility and get to have differing volume for skins. Plus the terror radius visual indicator really helped me and i have hearing so its a benefit anyway.
You can’t hear the pull up of the ax at all. You have to play vs the Huntress like playing vs the unknown always looking behind
I dont even play the game anymore but I follow dbd because BHVR extreme incompetence is such an interesting phenomenon to observe
So Scott, how come HUNK doesnt have his own Mori and ingame hes just frank?
They zoned themselves with this one!
am i the only one who realizes this is the extremely common tactic of "make new thing OP to drive sales, then nerf it a month later"
DBD has done it before, TONS of other games still do it. it's basically the new loot box in the scam arsenal of devs
Stealth huntress is finally a thing
Not to mention that if they fix it after a month or two, then they "intentionally left it there so people would buy the skin and then nerfed it to scam people." It'll be Ash all over again.
Glad to know Jeff is still loud 2 years after i quit DBD
I want a Feng pay to win skin to look more brighter with neon colors
This is no accident. Ash was pay to win with the original mettle of man. Once they've collected everybody's money, then they nerf it.
I think people forget that dbd is literally pay to win by default. Many strong killers are licensed and can only be unlocked with money, likewise with their perks if you don’t want to wait years for the shrine of secrets.
The strongest killer is not a paid character.
Nurse,Blight,Billy and spirit being OG characters:
@@WutTheDeuceGaming the strongest perks on her are though
There is also a thousand p2w perks which makes survivors quiet and harder to find like hell
So this is BHVR we're talking about, how likely is it they'll actually add the noises in the make the skin less pay to win?
I don't even get how this happens. Like sure, early BHVR I could excuse this, but even in just OBS I can set my mic to raise how loud my voice is if I'm too quiet, or to lower the noise if I'm too loud. This shouldn't be a problem
Yay it’s Scott ❤❤❤❤. Also, as a Leon main and simp, I really like the way he sounds but a slight volume adjustment would be nice 😅
I oil pull to your videos, Scott. My teeth are pearly, Scott.
I would say the Lullaby doesn't really matter because everyone plays with the visual indicator now anyway
I don't think the visual indicator gives any indication of distance, though, just the presence of a lullaby.
Everyone plays with that on now? Well I see they got new players doing the easy work, huh cupcake?
bro got genrushed 😂
I gotta be honest I don't think it's as simple as just lowering the volume of some survivors. Some pitches and sounds are just going to stand out more, on their own or against killer chase themes. I know that's not the point, but I think it's good to note that you may have to re-record these things for them to be normalized. I think even if you make bill half the volume he's still going to be easier to parse than others. In this case with huntress I totally agree tho, the raised hatchet grunt she makes should be much louder
Ada is egregiously quiet. People should make more of a fuss about that because it’s insane.
But her running is louder
It isn't @@muysli.y1855
this skin is the only reason i play huntress lmao i love it. I had ten games on her before the skin and now ive done 50+ matches cause of it
Yeah I faced a huntress last night with this skin and I have over 3300+ hrs in the game I’m pretty good not the best player out there but I had a jump scare with her she was all of sudden in the same T L wall and I didn’t notice her singing and she got hits on me cause I didn’t hear her hatchet as well I was like oh so quite
Waiting for BHVR to come up with an excuse for both the huntress skin and the survivors audio levels
I cannot wait to go against more huntresses because of her pay to win skin oh boy
i always said ada also is a pay to win survivor because she is so quite especially with iron well the amount of times the killers lost me while playing as ada is insane compared to any other survivor
Wasnt the brown ghost face rift skin also p2w, because it didnt make the wooshy noises
Idk that slinger skin with the literally sight on it
I literally just want to mute my survivor screaming when being hooked
How does bhvr not have a checklist for issues like this stuff like this happens like every update 😂
Everyone I've played that has this skin has just tunneled relentlessly, and I have to wonder why that is
Man's over here still sleeping from Freddy release
If they change the audio levels, male vaults will go twice as far, and the Twins will probably spawn in as survivors.
The BHVR solution = lower the volume of base huntress and somehow also nerf pig.
Many people are forgetting the Ghost Face Rift Skin, as it is often bugged and silences the cape flap noise. You also know people are using it specifically for pay2win because it looks so horrible.
