- Just a quick comparison of Roland TD-12´s internal sounds and Superior Drummer 2.0 triggered via Midi. I´m using a Focusrite Saffire Interface and a Macbook Pro running Logic Audio 9 and SD2 as a plugin. E-Drums by Roland, Hart Dynamics and Drum-Tec. Needless to say that I was blown away right from the start triggering sample libraries with e-drums, the possibilities you have are quite limitless.

You play so well !!! It's impressive.
Arnaud M Thank you very much!
That was some absolutely amazing playing
Forget the drum sounds, your drumming is incredible! such rad feel holy crap its like poetry to watch!
Nice comparison - thanks! This was just what I was looking for. Great drumming, too.
Excellent comparison and thanks for replaying the exact same performance so we can hear the difference. Nice playing, too.

I came here to check out sounds and all of a sudden I totally forget about it because all I care is to study those phrases you play ! hehehe awesome job
Great playing and definitely makes we want a copy of SD..:)
Awsome drumming and technique
I love superior drummer sounds and I love that groove that you do with the ride
Love your playing, dude.

Wow, you're a great drummer! Cool video as well
The true art of playing the drums. This makes me feel so good :-)
Thank you Moritz! :)
That would be absolutely incredible.
Sounds good!
A young Ralf....."Killing it"!....👍👊🙏
😄 haha, you've actually found the very first video I ever did for CZcams. Man check out the super professional picture quality of the inbuilt camera of my white plastic macbook at that time. Might be considered vintage by now...!
the drumming was so groovy i wasnt even paying attentions to the drum sounds
Thank you very much, glad you liked it! :)
You are so damn good! Great job.
Hy , i have buy Td1 for Usb recording(Kontakt 5.1), but it's not so great, like a some bug , do you have advice? Tnx
Hey man! Great video :) It really shows the difference between the VST and the module :) Is there any chance you could send over a link to that preset kit so I could download it? I love the sound!
Any possibility you might share your superior drummer mixer settings with us? Great playing :)
I want to ask...can I connect the ddrum pro or red shot trgiggers with roland td 12 module on my acoustic drums and what can I aspect from that ?
Thanks so much for this very informative comparison. You are a fantastic drummer. Superior drummer is appropriately titled!
Your playing is soo smooth
Thank you :)
Excellent tutorial and drumming. I was planning on getting the Roland TD 25KV along with Superior 2.0 next month. Using it for traveling, being quiet and mixing music in PT.
I just bought the td-25... The dynamics and editing is great....I'm not feeling how it triggers superior and ez drummer...it doesn't capture a lot of the nuances that the new td-25 brain captures
James Balestrino Thanks for the feedback. I'm heading to Sweetwater this weekend and speaking to all the masters on this subject. They have a Gearfest that everyone in the world is there. I was highly recommended the Superior 2.0 as a way to capture individual tracks in PT's. Also, I was to expand the kits pads with another snare and floor tom.
I actually bought mine thru Sweetwater , those guys are great...I am a huge superior/too track fan an was real skeptical on how the td-25's brain would match up...but I have to say, it really impressed me..too track samples are ridiculously awesome but there is something about the Roland sound that works for me. The only thing that is kind of a negative is that there is no routing of the audio...meaning it's a 2 channel stereo output and you can't touch up individual outputs like u could do in the midi world with the multichannel output of superior. In any event have a blast at gear fest and let me know how u make out.
James Balestrino Thanks Jim...I'm a huge Sweetwater fan, been going to the Gearfest for about 6 years. AJ Becerra is a friends of mine, sales engineers at this place. Highly recommends this Superior 2.0 and Roland....I did pick up the tutorial for the Superior last month to start learning the process mapping this kit. I did see in this software a mixer, explaining how to map each pad, then work it with Protools, including routing to bus's....I'll go back into that tutorial that I got from Groove 3 and check again. I have to have full control like I do with my acoustic kit or there's a huge problem....Not sure, but pretty sure the MIDI plug goes to a interface, to the computer USB....Open the protools session, bring in the mixer, map it and should route the sends to the Protools inputs...Interesting...I will get back...Later for now.
HI again... I just re watched the Groove 3 tutorial on Superior drum. Show how you take your drums and make individual tracks for each drum. They show examples in about 5 DAWs. But, the tutorial did not show me the edit window, just the mix window with all the sends/Bus/Aux.etc...They did show how to create midi samples in a edit window, quantize to the bpm/scale on a single instrument. Still very confusing, I'll see Sweetwater and get back with you..
Hi again, with superior drummer my ghost notes are sounding as centre snare hits at low volume! Yuk 😵
I'm using a Td-9
Apart from when I hit the rim all My ghost notes, light, Med & hard hits are all coming out as centre hits on Superior drummer sounds, Is there anyway to set up Superior to solve this?
The snare is dual trigger & really bad at this pc stuff but I'm sure there must be a way that my lower hits can be changed into ghost notes Ect, Really appreciate any help !! 😇
Any idea how to set up the VH11 Hi Hat controller to trigger MT Power Drumkit 2 samples in Reaper? Any Idea? Can't find anything online about this.
Reply
very informative, thanks
Damn, i want to play like you! I'm planning on buying a td 4 or 6 very soon,a nd it's good to see the improvement made by the real samples. it sounds super great. I'm using Native instruments Abbey road drums atm, and can't wait to actually be able to play them.
nice chops
Hi, I have the same module. I want to make drum covers but have no experience with setting up my sound. Could you tell me how you have it set-up?
Exceptional playing and sound! Pretty impressed!
...I've never had a set of VDrums, so bit the bullet, and have LITERALLY just got home with a Roland TD-12 module and drum kit I bought off Craigslist for $185! He said he purchased it in early 2011...It looks like it's barely been used over the many years, likely covered by a blanket, and astonishingly, all the drums and cymbals work! Since I've YET to delve into the manual to see how everything works, what do I need to purchase next regarding equipment needed to get Superior Drummer 2 or 3 to work once I purchasing/download the software to my Laptop? I have a MIDI IN/Out and 2 sets of "Direct" or "Master" Output on the module. I'll have to figure out how to set up a set of powered speakers/Sub eventually as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hello, I'm from Brazil and I want to know how the MIDI function of the TD12 works because I do not know how it works. You can help me because I want to get the sound you took in the video. Can you help me?
I love your style and the Sound
Thank you very much!
So I have an Alesis Nitro kit, but I'm considering doing the whole superior drummer/Midi hook up. Will this program be compatible with this particular drum kit?
THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY CUZ I JUST BOUGHT SD 2!!
The fill at 2:50 is so good
Liked it a lot! Nice balance and funky style! Thx for the vid! (it actually sounds better with the Superior Drummer 2!
Any way you could get me the midi files to the set your playing. I have a TD-20 and would love to get that set on there.
Can anyone tell me if its possible to have a live feed via headphone or speakers with the SD2 software running? Or is it only really available post production?
how you can make a setting of the velocity? I use superior drummer 2.0 too, I have a problem that I can't make an accentuation when I hit the e-drum, please some advices, thank you..
I want the same setup. This is fucking dope !
hi there ..i have also a td12 and superior drums but i cant get the high hat vh11 to work i tried the midi learn but no go can you help me out with this please howe dit you get it to work greets and keep drumming !!
sounds great! Im running EZdrummer 2 in to alesis DM8 pro kit but wow what a difference im fairly new to using midi and pc to record, yea I know pretty late in this game but i beefed up my hard drive and ram but still have some latency, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Is there any chance, that you remember which preset you used on this demo for snare on td-12? its nice. not from midi-SD2 off course, td-12 programmed sample. I can hardly find any decent snare setting on my Roland. sounds flatty, machine-gun like.
hi there thanks for the reply .. the update 2.3 for superior is a major update so every one has problems with there vh11 ,,please update ! you can find it on there website . greetings from frank
@digitaldrumming Cool! I'm looking at the Saffire 6 USB. Do you think that would be sufficient? Then all I would need is a midi cable from my drum module to the Saffire and a USB cable from the Saffire to a computer for hardware? Then software on the computer... Please forgive me for all the questions. I'm just getting started with using my Roland kit. Thanks
hi dude ! i have setup td 12kx with superior drummer 2.0(sl avatar) , everything seems to be working fine but for 2 things.first I cant seem to get the tight closed hi hat sound , i still get a slight open sound even after pressing the hi hat pedal fully (vh-11 hi hats). Second the sound isnt as loud as I want it to be , however if i record the MIDI and playback it sounds fine, but listening to it while playing doesn't give the right feel in terms of volume.Any inputs will be appreciated. thanks
Hi could you send me a video explaining or some score to see how you rate the reel in?.
Thank you!.
Absolutely love your playing! Who are some of your biggest influences?
Excellent
Excellent demonstration and tremendous playing! As a non drummer solo drumming often bores me, usually my attention is only held by Steve Gadd and Bernard Purdie, but I loved listening to this.
Thank you for your kind feedback, very much appreciated!
Hallo nochmal! Hast Du Rat? Ich nutze das td-12 und Original Pads. Danke!
Hi Mate! Great Video! I'm new in the e-drum scene and would be really nice if you could answer me a question: I've Superior Drummer too and try to use it in Logic 9 to do some Midi Recordings with my Td 12. It all works with the connecting BUT the Soundquality is not good when I play the Drum. It's much better when I click with my mouse on the drumgeaphic in Superior Drummer. Can you tell me why? Thank you a lot
thanks for the reply, superior drummer is my next purchase
What's your td-12 sound configuration man? Especially for the bass drum. Thanks mate!
how do you connect it? i've tryed but nothing! does it need some special driver for TD-12??? I've used Cubase 5 + SD... thanks
Just wondering what you're using midi to pc wise and do you have any tutes on your setup with superior drummer etc?
Can you get a choke on cymbals via Superior? I am not able to on td10.
Hey ! :) Could you share your drum map for the td 12 ? I cant get it to work with superior drummer. Sry for my english
Nice! I just got the TD-12. What's the name of the sound bank you're using from the TD-12?
nice groove
Hello!
Thanks a lot for the video. Very inspiring. Your playins is really amazing!
Question:
Can I use VSTs with this module on a macbook with IOS 10.14?
I have a midi-usb cable from m-audio.
Thank you Luciano! Yes, you can use the module's midi output with a midi-usb cable, you'll also need a dedicated audio interface with fast driver for low latency monitoring while playing.
Kind regards!
How many drums and cymbals can you put in 1 drumkit in Superior Drummer?
3 quick questions... #1) I have all PD-125 Roland pads, but I just ordered a 13" Hart Dynamics hammered chrome snare on ebay today ($175). I love the drum-tec hammered snare, but couldn't afford it. Is the Hart snare a good choice, or would have I been better off using one of my PD-125 pads as the snare?
....#2) Ok, I just watched the video of you palying the TD-11 a couple times...ok, a bunch of times lol. I think I'm leaning towards the TD-11 module, But is there any real significant performance difference between the TD-11 and TD-15, other than the extra sounds & outputs?
....#3) I was told that only the TD-12, 20 and 30 has positional sensing. But in the beginning of the other video of you playing the TD-11, you do a drum roll at the top of the snare....down to the center of the snare, and it seems like I heard the difference!! Did you just play the drum roll harder as you got to the center.... or do the TD-11 has some kind of sensing? i dunno....maybe I'm crazy lol
How do you have 5 cymbals my TD 12 only has enough outs for 4?
I also discovered ad2 lately and I'm loving it. Can I know which ad2 kit are you playing? thanks!
i have a question, from a drummer's perspective, which program has a better "feel" to it (without regard to sound) between addictive drums and superior drummer 2.0?
wow... nice chops
Thank you!
di you have to change the velocity in SD to make the pads feel like an acoustic kit? or did you change the sensitivity of the pads in the td 12, or both?
can you please mate a tutorial how to apply Superior Drummer to your electric drums. please! please!
Thanks for making this video! Its awesome. I havent really had much to do with sup drummer yet, but im looking at upgrading from my TD-3. And i was wondering is it possible to play with those samples live through earphones just like you would through the original roland module? Does it just run through a seperate interface or would superior drummer only be something you could use for recording?
Hi, I love this video - the difference is night and day. I also have a td12. Could you suggest how I might do this (trigger Supperior drummer via td12 kit). Is it tricky? I have a macbook also and a midi/usb lead. But that is as far as I have got. Any advice would be appreciated! great playing by the way - real great feel!
Regards,
David
I've been trying for a long time to connect my td 12 module to the computer and I can't. I have a midi usb cable and I've tried connecting to several programs, including superior drummer, kontakc, reaper... could you explain to me how you did it?
Hey Gabriel, generally speaking you use the midi data coming from the module to trigger the sample libraries in a standalone player or as a plugin in your DAW. You'll need an audio interface & enough CPU power to monitor with low latency, where exactly did you encounter a problem? Kind regards
I have a TD-12 as well. Besides needing the Superior Drummer software, how do I connect my Vdrums to my Macbook Pro?
Hi, you will need a midi/audio interface to connect to your computer via USB/Firewire/thunderbolt.
Something like this:
www.drum-tec.de/roland-ua22-duocapture-usb-audio-interface-p-2812.html
Hope that helps! Kind regards
Excellent video. Aside from the great drumming others have mentioned, the software does seem to make a difference. My dreams of a massive drum kit are slightly hampered by space and noise considerations, so I've been looking into V-Drums. It's nice to see that there are alternatives to the default module for getting a realistic sound (I couldn't care less about all those electronic DnB type patches).
One question as I am new to this - how is the sound output? Can you use your computer speakers?
WOW! DUDE. Thanks. You make Elec drums legit here. cymbal sounds are superior to what i have heard. great demo covering all aspects. that snare is crazy sensitive...real studio quality!
Thank you very much, you might also want to check out some other sample-triggering electronic drum videos:
czcams.com/play/PLfdIgOnHCc5qXX2P03SRNVSjuuUQYcUUy.html
Kind regards!
Will go. Looked at a TD3 w/drum amp Simmons for $600 need to be able to program brain for specific settings. For example some youtube cat got the exact settings for a Bonham kit...sounded great. That what I want to do--capture classic kit sounds.
@@freeat_last7375 I saw that one at GC. Wow. I didn't think it was possible to hate an amp that much. Personally, I wouldn't carry it out of the store for free. Jmo
I personally use either a bass amp, a Roland keys amp 4 channel or an old JBL PA
Great drumming... In S.D do you set a seperate sample for the rim..as i can only get 1 snare sample assigned to the snare and most modules have rim and snare? Been using a ddrum 4 for years and these superior drummer samples are soo much better. Also there only seems to be 1 avatar kit in SD, how do you get other kits or do you just customise the avatar?.. Thanks.
Nice video. What about Positional Sensing with with SD?
Man .. I have just subscribed. You are so good.
I have a question. I have a TD9KX2 ... using the Roland's standard kit.
What do I have to do to use Sd2.0 and change the sounds of my kit as you did? Thanks a lot.
Nice! I'm about to buy the Roland td-11kv kit with Superior Drummer. Couldn't get a good sound off my acoustic set for recording. Have you been satisfied recording this way into a DAW and mixing it with other instruments?
how do you interface your kit? is it just a usb interface, or are you using something else? i can't imagine getting that low latency through a usb interface
