- Want to see how to pull a vacuum down below 500 microns? Do you want to know how to operate a vacuum pump? How often should you change the oil in a vacuum pump? Doug Smiley talks about pumping down a system on #ToolboxTuesday.
Toolbox Tuesday covers how to use tools, accessories, tips, hacks and best practices of the HVAC industry. Learn about HVAC, duct, coil, flame sensor, sequence of operations, electrical, condensate lines, ohms law, air distribution tools and more.

Good video the process of controlling the low side valve wasn't covered in detail enough as I compare this with others and controlling the closing of the valve til closing is what it's really all about. Once you get to zero then close the valve and begin a deep vacuum t rid all moisture.
Excellent job... It would be good if you mentioned what type of refrigerant, what size unit and what type of compressor.... thanks for sharing I always watch your good videos..
Hello
Nice tools to work with in the video. Unfortunately the reality is, ,most installers do not have the digital manifold and rarely do I see a micron gauge with service techs or install crews. Changing vacuum pump oil changes? I agree with your procedures but, there needs to be some incentive for these guys to read instructions and follow these procedures. I'm just not sure what that should or could be. Maybe with the resources ofLennox, you can find some ideas. Thanks, from a HVAC retired contractor. Peace
I saw that you use a fieldpiece manometer. Can you recommend with brand is better base on your experience. Thank you
The delta t that shows on the right side during the vaccum. Whats is that?
Helpful video....How do you clean a micron gauge?? Really need to know thx
Kevin Barker Hi , not positive but, I would think the flush used to clean refrigerant out of line sets would work followed by nitrogen and then vacuumed out? Peace
Look up the manufacturer's website for the user manual of your micron gauge be the proper answer.
Use 3 core removal tools to protect your micron gauge
This video is crap. Why would you pump refrigerant into the condenser then pull a vacuum?? Recover refrigerant. Make any necessary repairs. Then purge/. Pressure test with nitrogen. Then vacuum system. I’m glad I don’t install Lennox I’d be embarrassed to be associated with this nonsense.
James putting refrigerant in the condenser is done all the time whenever you have to make a repair on the evaporator side of the system. He is flawed in the way he is directing how to pull a vacuum you shouldn't pull through a manifold. Get vacuum rated hoses at least 1/2" or bigger to pull through and hook them directly to your pump and get the micron gauge as far away from the pump as possible.
Larry Cole he shouldn’t even mention pumping the unit down. Evacuation has nothing to do with pumping a unit down. He should have the example situation be the system was opened to atmosphere and repaired.
@@jamestabor2001 they leave a lot to interpretation sometimes like in this case to much.
this is the worst vacuum process video iv see in my life
am an HVAC newbie and even I could tell he was wrong on that...
bad video on how to pull a vacuum.
Garbage explanation does not show step by step
