Excellent review! I just discovered it right when I thought I knew every existing review on the L700, haha!. I owned a stax system which included the original L700 until last September, and alas, had to sell them because I needed the money. Since you eq headphones, try the following eq when you listen to music with the L700 mk2. You'll thank me later, haha!. Sorry if I don't provide specific parameters, but you can play around my indications based on your liking and hearing.
1) Bass shelf +3 or +4db from 60hz, a gentle shelf;
2) -1db at 80hz, narrow Q.
3) +1 db at 250hz, very wide Q
4) and now the crucial one: -2db at 1.5Khz, medium-narrow Q
5) -1.5db at 7Khz, medium Q, abundant medium.
The driver of the L700 is astonishing for its ability to take Eq-ing. The size of the diaphragm (and the fact it uses the same triple grill driver as the 009, a robust driver) combined with a level of distortion that is so negligible, allow the 700 to respond to Eq very well, with super low distortion. Let me know how it sounds to you.
Great review. Good multi angle, early breakdown of the headphones, and good QA section.
Thanks Tom!
Stax drivers are actually protected on the lambda series. You can see a sort of crumpled up mylar covering the outside of the stators. The material is not mylar per se, but it works as dust protection. Still, covering them with a dust cover is still the best option. Keep the reviews coming!
Hi. Great show. Lots of useful information. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to more STAX videos!!
