If this does actually happen it is probably a hell of a morale booster for the crews on both sides. Giving the crewmembers a bond, good stuff.
I'd be willing to be there's a US coast guard cutter just over the horizon , make sure there isn't any "funny stuff" . American vessels don't disrupt Russian fleets, so a "little soft enforcement" in the name of diplomacy works here..
now If this continues, I'm sure a foreign fleet, Korean or Japanese may disrupt the next Russian herring fleet..

Watching the Hillstrand and Josh work together truly makes me miss the pranks Phil and John used to pull on each other. I will never forget the look on Philâs face when he thought he caught so much crab in that pot that the block was having trouble pulling it up but really it was a damn car that John got and some how hid on his boat from Phil before launching from the deck. It was absolutely hilarious.

When I was 12 I was in Safeway in Homer, Alaska. The time bandit was docked there and I got to meet Eddie and some of the other guys at Safeway when they were getting food. It was so cool to meet them. They all seemed so tough and badass

Cool story man. I meet John and Scotty at a Home Depot in Washington State. I asked for a picture and helped John get some things for his lawn. It was awesome, and John was just so nice.
Man Josh has been a driving force the minute he set foot on the boat his very first episode. I remember his brother came on the show first, then Josh showed up and just hit the ground running. Absolutely one of my favorite characters of the entire series. Itâs still surreal to not see Phil in the captains chair, he must be proud of how he raised his boys.

@@J-Mac8 Drugs. Altercations with rangers ending up to drug distribution charge and jail time (18 months). Then⊠DUI this year. I believe is brother has accepted him again as a crew member most recently and are trying to see if he can maintain sobriety and work through his issues.

@@darko3042 crab fishing isnât actually much damage, Iâm personally from Alaska, and you wouldnât believe the restrictions and rules they have on crab fishing, in fact, for the brown crab season, thereâs only 4 boats allowed to fish the Bering sea.

Oh and by the way, YES after watching the show from before it even aired on TV through a DVD I bought here in the UK, All the captains and Crew feel like Family, we the viewers feel it when someone like Nick from the summer bay dies or when Phil Died on the Cornelia Marie or as in the case of Nick on the Northwestern where his Appendix just burst and he had to be sent to hospital WE WORRY...
That is why they call us fans of the show...

I feel a deep gut pain similar to that of immense betrayal and heartache when I see modern footage of vessels dragging trawling nets along the ocean surface decimating thousands upon thousands of years of accumulated natural ecological habitats.

In that neck of the woods, below the 57 line, they are probably running mid-water trawls. Although the bottom there is volcanic black sand for the most part, so even a bottom dragger does little harm to the environment.

@@scarletzer0304 They don't know, they aren't trawlermen. All they see is the wire going down astern of the boat. I've done both jobs up there Crabbing and Trawl. At that time of year, in that area, Russians would be running a mid-water trawl for Hake. Although any net they're running would screw up a pot string. Americans at that time of year, are usually below the 56 line dragging for either Cod or Yellowfin Sole.
