- We travel back in time, thanks to a rare movie that long ago encouraged people to make Austin their new home.

KVUE is Austin's ABC affiliate station and has been delivering local news for Central Texans since 1971. Today it is owned by TEGNA, Inc., which reaches approximately one-third of all television households in America. www.kvue.com
My parents moved to Austin in 1951. Their first house (rented) is still there. It's the white house at the corner of 6th and Mopac. I asked my Mom why they moved from there and she said, "It was so far out - it took too long to get into town".
😂
My grandma was 10 years old at this time. She’s still well and kicking 💪🏽
Up through the late 70s it was a piece of heaven. Too bad gone forever.
@@StudioLB Up until the late 70's, there were more black-owned businesses, more black children growing up in two parent households, and more black workers in middle class union jobs.
@@StudioLB ..Your troll game is So weak, bitchboy.
@Fransisco Balamonde ..Too weak troll.
@@StudioLB Well the USA was over 90% white until the 1970s, so yeah.
@No LB I wasn’t brown, it was full of the red man. Native Americans.
Just want to share this was the year that my mom was conceived in San Antonio and my grandfather and my grandmother were here dude that he was stationed. 1981 My mom and her husband moved to Texas. Followed by several different family members over the years I am now expecting my third grandchild in April wow who knew we all be here in Texas 2022🎉
I live in a classic central Austin bungalow. It would have been brand new at the time this was filmed! Too cool.
Aw, the guy on the video from '43 spoke just like my grandpa
One thing I noticed is that, throughout most of history during the 1900s, Texas seemed to have been completely unnoticed by the entire US. Most movies and videos you’ll see took place in New York or Los Angeles. Nowadays, modern politics seemed to have put Texas under the spot light with the growing numbers of Californians moving here.
One exception- James Dean's 'Giant' was filmed in Marfa in 1956.
Barton Springs was segregated until 1960. It was not open to all in 1943.
Thank you for reminding us of reality.
Wonderful years... 💘
Austifornia
Is the view at 1:49 from South Lamar?
Yes, it is.
@@iamjustsaying4787 I'm not so sure. I believe it may be S. 1st. It's way too hilly for S. Lamar.
Austin is not safe to live anymore 😭 price has gone up moving black people out of their homes on Eastside not fair
@@KO-cj9ci that's what's going on just telling the truth it's not like the '90s no more
Its cause of those rich white folks moving here 🤦♀️
@@Bembieemusic Housing prices are going up because ~70% of the city is zoned for single family houses only. Not to mention the other zoning restrictions on mixed use, height and density. Overturn these terrible zoning rules and the city becomes affordable again and traffic will get better as a side effect of the increased walkability.
And crime is because of poor POC's
They just didn’t move us out they erased our history I don’t know if you remember certain landmarks we had that been destroyed and rebuilt over the years
Vote Yes
Hmu 😁

Hey
tell the real story of segregation
All those white people and no minorities in one frame 🤣🤣
Back when it was a safe city
Segregated times smh. Nothing to celebrate
Lots to celebrate compared to the drugs and crime of a multicultural swamp
@@WyomingGuy876 you really are a racist
@@martin4dmr770 When everyone is a racist then no one is a racist; Welcome to Critical Race Theory
@@WyomingGuy876 You don't know how anything really works, do you?

I literally walked in downtown alone. Didn't get mugged in Austin. I don't know what you are talking about
back when Austin was super racist. cool.
But everything was clean and it wasn't as racist compared to cities in other parts of Texas
Back when Austin was clean and safe.
