- The Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo hike is one of the most famous and exciting hikes on Madeira Island with incredible views along the way. If you are an outdoor lover, you don’t want to miss hiking from Pico do Arieiro to the highest peak on Madeira Island, Pico Ruivo at 1862 meters.
This 11 km trail is challenging (over 1000 m of incline), but the views and experience are just incredible!
It is one of the most fascinating hikes we’ve ever did. And now we want to share our experience with you!

Awesome video! Can't wait to be there in a couple months. Just curious, would you recommend staying out at Pico Ruivo for sunset, or making it back close to Pico Arieiro in time for sunset?

Yes I did a few times and isnt for the faint hearted or the ill prepared. Like many the other hikes in the island all the careful is little . Feliz natal e ano .
Totally agree! If you’re careful, sporty and well prepared you won’t have any trouble up there, but it’s the same with most routes on Madeira :)
@@picturetheworld Indeed to all the hikes in Madeira when visiting and Sintra where I live and what is great people are more concerned to visit the places and forget that beside of that their is the forest and the mountains and the trails that I can enjoy without any crowds . And it is excellent having the countryside for myself . Madeira when I go I try to avoid the crowds places .🤣

Can you do this with a 2 year old kid or to dangerous?
The trail isn’t dangerous, but places outside the trail are very exposed. If you’re 100% sure you can control your child, I guess it’ll be fine. You’ll figure it out right at the beginning from Pico do Arieiro.
