Starry Cat was a short-lived project whose sole member was Sam Ray, better known as a member of Teen Suicide, Julia Brown, and Ricky Eat Acid. Initially, their sole album was released as a way to raise money to help with Caroline White's surgeries, who was also a member of Teen Suicide and Julia Brown. Post-surgery, this album still stands as another great piece of work in Sam's large output. Sonically, the lo-fi mopey pop songs will come as no surprise to fans of his other projects. I know this thing is old news by now, but if there's anyone who hasn't heard it yet, I'd highly recommend getting on it. Enjoy.

I cannot believe that Sam never planned on letting this project see the light of day, this is some of the coolest and most unique stuff I've ever heard

fun fact, they're basically just leftovers from julia brown
sometimes there are songs i don't want to put on repeat because they hold a certain magic and i don't want to lose that magic by getting tired of the music. this album - especially "happiness" - is full of those.
There are some songs that are mean't to stay with you and hence stick to your heart, making you unable to grow weary of them

i love this album so much. even if the music is sad sometimes, it's so pretty and it makes me so happy. it's all so cute and really just lovely music. "i think you're really beautiful" is my favorite song. it makes me feel really emotional but it's a happy type of emotional. lofi music does this to me sometimes.

@@cicadeus7741 thank you, stranger. this has come at a very different kind of struggle in my life that's been the product of both growing up and falling into old mistakes. without giving off my entire life story, i've definitely been better overall until i have been hit with emotional bombardments in the span of just a couple days. this genuinely means a lot to me.

I saw a cat get hit while I was at work. Crawled through the creek to get her after she crawled down there. Her back spine was crushed. There was nothing they could do. I was crying as the doctor put down the cat, she was purring and looking at me. I think she was bonding with me, and then she died. I decided I’d call her Legacy. Also thanks for this album, it makes me feel a little better.

I found this album is 9 years old and this fact makes my heart crumble for some reason
this album really helped me cope with the death of my dog. especially the last song. i feel like alot of the lyrics centre around death and how you can still feel connected to that soul even when they arent here anymore. in the same way this album helped me cope with friends i lost.
i've just come across the song 'starry cat' today while looking through Sam Ray's music on spotify, and i've never fallen in love with a song faster. I am the biggest cat lover and i'm also just starting space science and astrophysics at uni so i almost feel like this song found me. i also play guitar which means i can easily play the beautiful fingerpicking for myself. how is this whole album, but especially the starry cat song, so underrated? i think i've found my song.

I feel this amazing feeling whenever I listen to this now, so nostalgic for the times I listened to this with my friends or alone at night, even though I was such a sad kid this album in particular really made me go through a lot of shit. It's also amazing not many people know about this, so I always felt like it's our own ''intimate'' music, just between me and my two friends. I will never forget the joy when I received a Teen Suicide record for my birthday. These albums absolutely changed my life, and will always be a part of it.

This is the most unique album i have heard. Loved it a lot
