Tropicana Las Vegas Demolition Update 07 20 2024

- This is a Tropicana Las Vegas demolition update taken on Saturday, July 20, 2024. The video starts on the east side of the Tropicana site on the OYO hotel parking deck. The two main hotel towers are about fully gutted out. You can see on the rear tower, crews are still working on demolishing the very top center of the roof area. There wasn't much going on today being a Saturday. They were using the excavators to demo the last pool in the center of the property between the two towers. You can see one of the excavators was using the Jackhammer to break up the pool sides. The other one was loading the concrete pieces into the giant dump truck.
They have demolished about half of the Robert Irvine Public House restaurant along the north side of the property. You can still see some of the equipment inside. I guess it's cheaper to demo with the stuff inside then to pay to move it out. I end the video on the north west corner by the front tower. They have most of the debris cleaned up over there. You can see in the video that they started to demolish the pedestrian bridge that goes to the Tropicana casino. It was a hot one outside today, so the video was cut a little short. The part of the Robert Irvin sign you couldn’t read was just “Robert” backwards. The stars were part of the baseboards on the outside of the interior it looked like from pictures.

I wonder when they’re going to get rid of the employee tunnel between the Paradise and Club (formerly Island) towers? I heard that was underground somewhere.

The problem with the Tropicana was they just kept adding areas without doing a major overhaul…

Could only imagine what was/is going through Robert Irvines head after he found out that he just spent all that money to build & open that restaurant only to close it a year or so later.

Shame that they couldn't give some of that left over equipment away. I know there are some restaurants that could have used that. What a waste.
They auction equipment in May.
They could have posted "Free" after the auction to get the items cleared out vs taking them to the landfill. I saw several nice metal shelving left behind that anybody would love to have. Ah well.
This is because of the tight timelines to complete demolition on time. The hotel has likely took months just to stage all the furniture, and even to give away all the equipment for free; it would have required months between the hotel's closure and demolition. Seeing the equipment came before closure, it seems that there wasn't as much time, and the contract was firm to stay on time, so they only gave away a small portion of equipment, furniture, etc to fulfill Nevada Law - ie the May auction.

Looks like they left some furniture behind in the bar area at the restaurant I'm sure there was lots of good stuff they could have donated.

@@togoandmoss In Oakland, nothing would have happened yet. They'd still be conducting an environmental impact study on how many ants would be killed driving the demolition equipment onto the site.
