I'm autistic 46 years old. Diagnosed at age 2. People don't understand me. No friends . Love toys. Lots of people love me. Try hard to hug me. But love being alone and love going out to look at toys. Bye

My daughter was just diagnosed with autism 2 days ago and she just turned 4. I knew something was different and I’m glad I advocated for her. People around me are gonna have to educate themselves about this to continue to be around her because she deserves people who are gonna give her compassion and not treat her differently

I have asperger syndrome, but you wouldn't really notice unless I told you or if you study my behavior closely. The funny part is that most people with asperger syndrome usually can't communicate effectively or are too shy (according to Google), but for me, it's the opposite. I'm not shy, I always am open to a conversation and love being social.

Our son is autistic, he’s 29 and he lives with us, the only problem we really have with him is his non stop talking, he repeatedly says the same things over and over again. It can be frustrating at times, he went all through school but he can’t read or write. He has done things we never thought he would, he works 2 days a week, he’s in the Special Olympics for our county, he plays basketball and he’s on the track and field team , he’s a math whiz, he loves numbers

I'm still trying to put my finger on it, but as I watch these "intro to autism" videos, I can't help but sense that something is a little ... off ... about them.
Perhaps part of the problem is the focus on children ... I only fully realized I have autism about three weeks ago, and all of the sudden a *lot* of workplace behaviors, difficulties in finding work, and other things in my life make sense ... but some of my traits don't match up with "typical" autism, so I can't help but wonder if we're looking for the wrong things.
Perhaps we should keep in mind that the quirky, extremely shy kid, prone to being bullied, who enjoys debate tournaments (but confound it if he couldn't figure out how to do better than 50% wins in a Lincoln Douglas tournament!) and being in school musicals and plays, who sings in a choir, who delves into science fiction and fantasy, who writes for the school newspaper, who decides to become a PhD mathematician because of a "rabbit hole" he fell into when reading "Jurassic Park" and discovering that mathematics is beautiful, who goes from software development job to software development job, regularly burning out (sometimes even when the startup burns out too) ... he might be autistic, too!

It was weird for me (as a European) to hear the baby referred to as Bubba - that's a name for a black person in American movies, never knew you Australians called babies or little children that.
