  • The Maharashtra Chess League (MCL) 2016 was a great event where 6 players from one team would take on 6 players from another. In the battle between Pune Sangli Navigators and Jalgaon Battlers the match ended in a 3-3 draw. Hence, an Armageddon had to played to see who would advance to the next round. Adhiban - "The Beast" played for the Pune Sangli Navigators, while Srinath - "The Wise Captain" played for Jalgaon Battlers. Adhiban had 5 minutes on the clock and Srinath had 4 but in case of a draw, Black would go through.
These were the days before we shot steady videos, so excuse us for the shakiness! We have compensated it with a chess board and also commentary by IM Sagar Shah.

For those wondering what happened at the end - Here is the description from the OG Chessbase India video that details the events :
This was the armageddon match to decide who will go into the finals of the MCL 2016. Adhiban (white) was representing Pune Sangli Navigators while Srinath (black) was playing for Jalgaon Battlers. White had five minutes, Black had four + the draw odds. In the end it became a time scramble where Srinath who had a few seconds more at the end won because his opponent dislodged the g3 pawn and pressed the clock.
