During a First Division match against West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United near the end of the 2001/2002 season, a string of fights and injuries led to an unusual ending to a heated game. After sending three Sheffield players off and injured players, referee Eddie Wolstenholme had to do something that English football had never seen before.
